The Best Of Internet Marketing December 2013

This is the 13th post in the series which shares all of my favourite internet marketing posts from the past month.

There is an awful lot of junk to sort through every month so here are the best bits according to me!

The Best Posts Of December 2013

With Xmas right around the corner I thought I would compile a short reading list to help you evade the annual family arguments ^^

There have been a lot of changes in the SEO world and Matt Cutt’s answers an age old question.

SEO & Link Building

In reference to my post about SEO in 2014 I wanted to share what can happen when you solely rely on Google.

They’ve also made a bunch more changes to the SERP designs devaluing the #1 position even more! These 99 zingers might help you rethink things!

Google are certainly turning the volume up with knowledge graph so it’s a good job you can easily hack it.

Matt Cutt’s says that 25-30% of the web is duplicate content but that’s is fine, duplicate content is normal and is not spam.

That mirrors my own testing which backfired when I tried to debunk the age old myth with a case study for you last year.

We have seen some great link building posts this month with some ranking case studies to boot!

There are 9 easy ways to build links or go all out with an 8 step plan to get links from major news/media outlets.

But let’s not forget just how crazy the last year of link building was!

I know a lot of you e-commerce guys struggle with SEO so this post might provide a bit of inspiration!

Last but not least was this awesome post which deals with lot of SEO rumours with a healthy serving of data!

Social Media

By far the best of social media this month was brought to us by Virante’s AuthorRank tool which gives us a fantastic glimpse into the possible future. I’m coming in at 6.64 right now!

A lot of people claim that Google+ is a ghost town but did you know how useful it is to generate traffic?

If you struggle with that you might want to turn your hand to the cocktail world of social, social media mixology.

If all else fails you can just spy on your competitors or simply keep hitting the share button over and over.

Blogging & Content

Take a look at how WPBeginner grew their blog empire step by step. Would love to see them do a full blown feature like this though.

Here are 47 different ways to monetise your blog including some tips from me! One thing Matt missed though, was bribery (this happens all the time).

Have you ever wondered if it’s better to just create shorter posts? It’s much less effort than longer posts!

Perhaps it’s time to treat each piece of content you create as a long term business asset.

Merry Christmas!

As this will be the last post before Christmas I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas!

I was planning on winding down to take some time off during the festive period.

But the worst thing about the internet is they don’t turn it off at Christmas, or ever.

So if I’m a bit slow with responding over the next week – it’s because I’m very drunk and/or hungover.

Thank you, it’s been a tough year for my business and I had to get rid of me seo guy who had done an amazing job for 3 years but then after may I nearly Lost the business as a result of the massive drop in our rankings. From a business owners perspective, it makes sence show care and attention and passion to your business online and the rest will follow, buying billions of links doesn’t equal passion. Really appreciate your posts it’s been an eye opener.

One of my site is on auto pilot that is fetching content

    its all duplicate

if duplicate is not the issue my 2000+ post should be getting me some sort of traffic

    so far zero lol

I think you need to watch the video to understand it better :)

I was reading your story with the owner of LionBlogger and how you tried to publish a guest post that is already published on other websites.

In my opinion, a great article will help increasing the engagement at the hosting website and that by itself is enough to accept your article and publish it. Their excuse is duplicate content which most of their posts if not all is duplicated in terms of ideas and does not bring anything new to the readers. I wonder sometimes how they get worried so much about duplicated content while their blogs are as useless as ever. (Have you checked the quality of articles on that website? i challenge you if you can find for me one useful article on it).

I read SEO articles every day at many different websites and i “rarely” see original useful content that is not repeated one way or another.

If it was not implied yet, i totally agree with your points on the topic and all your comments up there.

    All the Best Matt!
