Pandabot Review: How To Rank Your Website With Fake Usage Metrics

Your click through rate from Google's search results is more important than ever before, and Pandabot provides an easy to use interface for you to influence those metrics across a range of keywords and URL's.

Most people have never heard how Usage Metrics influence your rankings…

Let alone use it in their SEO strategy to increase google ranking.

Things like the click through rate from the Google SERPS are a relatively new ranking factor and can easily be manipulated.

These are the new Google keyword ranking factors no one is talking about.

I’m going to show you how I manipulated them to rank my website with zero backlinks in this Pandabot review.

Introducing Adi

I have been experimenting with SEO for a couple of years now.

I never liked the idea of hunting for SEO backlinks to rank as I find it a frustrating and time-consuming task (building PBNs, guest posting etc.).

That’s why I got excited when I found out you could do SEO without link building!

What Are Usage Metrics?

Without a doubt Google’s ranking algorithm has drastically improved in recent times.

There are three new ranking factors confirmed and I will show you how to automate them to increase Google ranking while looking completely natural.

The three new factors are-

  • Brand Recognition
  • Click Through ratio
  • Actual real user interaction with the site

It’s a great opportunity to outrank your rusty competitors who do not adjust their SEO strategy to include these new ranking signals (I predict the majority will fail).

You can learn more about how Google are collecting those metrics here.

If you’ve been struggling to figure out how to rank your website in Google, this is why!

Upgrade Your SEO Strategy Now

It’s evident that Google are making backlinks less and less important.

Google have been taking usage metrics into account when assessing your site.
Key usage metrics are;

  • Time spent on site/page
  • Amount of pages browsed
  • Bounce rates
  • Clicks through from SERPs
  • Diversity of branded search
  • Direct traffic

Rankings depend on many factors so it’s best to make things look as natural as possible.

Never rely only on one thing. Apply solid on-page SEO, citations, social & backlinks along with the mentioned usage metrics layered on top of each other.

Missing out on one of them could mean the difference between the first and second page in the SERPS.

Usage Metrics Case Study Results

I had an untouched Dutch domain name laying around for a couple of years now. It was perfect to use for this case study to try and increase Google ranking.

The site is focused around the dating niche and had zero visits a day before starting the case study.

All the traffic comes from the fake source, nothing else is used. Eventually, when the site ranks high enough organically, it will receive organic Google traffic as well.

The keywords used are low/medium competition with monthly search volumes ranging from 10 to 60500.

I mostly targeted low volume keywords with around 50-300 searches per month which seemed easy enough to rank.

This is done because the keywords have to already rank in the Google top 100 in order to use them in the organic campaign (more on that later), but you can target any search volume you want.

I mostly focused on one site post with only 231 words & 1 image (I’m lazy and wanted to see some results first before spending too much time writing).

Surprisingly on February 10th, the 60500 volume keyword started to rank on another skeleton page which consisted of only two short sentences. Over time, this keyword has steadily climbed in the SERPS.

Moving forward, on the 24th of February I added a 450 word article to this post. I never expected this keyword to rank so that’s why the content was added much later on.

Furthermore, the site has no content on the homepage but it is silo structured. The site has 4 posts, 2 pages & 2 categories.

Here is how things progressed.

  • [01-01-2015] Website put online
  • [05-01-2015] Pandabot direct traffic campaign set up
  • [17-01-2015] Pandabot premium subscription expired
  • [18-01-2015] Started to rank at position #55
  • [21-01-2015] 3 ranking keywords added as organic traffic campaign
  • [27-01-2015] Some keywords moved up in SERPs
  • [10-02-2015] 60500 volume keyword started to rank #58
  • [11-02-2015] Renewed premium subscription – added more keywords inc. the 60500 s/m one with international traffic
  • [24-02-2015] Added 450 words article to the 60500 s/m post
  • [26-02-2015] Multiple longtail keywords starting to rank which are found in the 450 words post
  • [11-03-2015] Premium subscription expired
  • [11-03-2015] Increased in organic Google traffic from 30 to max 100 visits a day for the 60500 s/m keyword

Pandabot review

For direct traffic all countries were used. For organic traffic only dutch visitors were used.

This is why there’s not so much traffic in the first place. I wanted it to look natural and not raise any alarms since it’s a dutch site. Later on in my case study update, I will use all traffic to see how that goes.

However, from February 11th, I started sending worldwide traffic to the 60500 searches per month post which has led to a steady increase of the main and longtail keywords. The orange line is this main 60500 s/m keyword.

From the graph above you can see that around February 9th some keywords jumped in rankings or just started to rank. Around February 19th, some rankings improved further. Similar happened around February 26th.

how to rank your website in google with Pandabot

The graph above is the 60500 s/m keyword. The top rank so far is at #28.

ranking progress

On 17-01 my premium subscription expired so on the 24th the traffic plummeted when the credits got spent.

The low traffic you see from january 24th till february 11th is coming from the basic free Pandabot subscription.

As a result the rankings did not improve either. On February 11th the PandaBot premium subscription was renewed and the traffic jump is clearly noticeable.

The usage metrics speak for themselves. It all depends on how you set up your Pandabot campaign.

Pandabot Review: How To Fake Usage Metrics

First off, you will need a free Pandabot account to follow this Pandabot review.

The Pandabot network consists of users like you and me who run the Panda Smart Browser (PSB) on their computer(s). By running the PSB, you gain credits which you can use in your campaigns.

I strongly recommend to watch all the video tutorials and read the FAQ to get yourself familiar with it. Once you have done that, continue following this post.

Setting Up Your Campaign

Go to the Pandabot backoffice and in the Settings menu go to Promote Your Websites > Website Profile.

This is where you add your sites by clicking Add New Website. It’s very straight forward.

add website to PandaBot

Now go to Promote Your Websites > Website Pages. In the upper left corner click the button “Import Multiple Pages”.

import pages

Closely follow the instructions on that page. Make sure you use the sample Excel file and do it exactly like that by editing in your pages. Next you import your file.

Now go to Promote Your Websites > Website Keywords. Add as many keywords as possible, the key is to diversify and make it look natural. Make sure you are already ranking in the top 100 for those keywords.

add keyword to increase Google ranking

Also, add branded keywords like your sites name or brand + some keywords.

Decide on the max visitors per day by looking at the current Google traffic volume.

Finally, go to Promote Your Websites > Website Traffic Campaigns (Random Order of Pages). Make sure you read the instructions on this page as this is an important step you don’t want to mess up.

campaign setup

When you click on Create New Website Traffic Campaign, these are the settings I use.

I did not select the website and keyword for obvious reasons.

If you run a foreign website, enter the corresponding local Google URL in the Starting URL field. When you have used Pandabot for a while, you will also be able to select the Traffic Source Country.

Random Keyword Method

For each keyword, you need to setup a new traffic campaign, unless you use the random keyword method.

To use the random keyword method, go to Promote Your Websites > Website Keywords and exactly enter #Random Keyword# as your keyword.

This means it will use a random keyword from the keywords you already added to the Website Keywords page.

Next, create a new or copy an existing website campaign from Promote Your Websites > Website Traffic Campaigns (Random Order of Pages).

Make sure you select the just created #Random Keyword#. This method is especially handy if you have a lot of keywords so you don’t have to create a new traffic campaign for each keyword.

Don’t forget to always mix things up and use direct, organic and referral traffic.

Pandabot also does a great job at promoting your Youtube videos and it’s even easier to setup than a website.

Setting Up Your Social Networks

Another great feature is the social networks module.

From the Settings menu go to Grow Your Social Presence > Social Networks Accounts. Make sure you follow the instructions and meet the requirements, otherwise your social networks accounts won’t work.

Next, go to Grow Your Social Presence > Spintax Comments.

Add a proper spintax which is used in your social campaigns. I’m using The Best Spinner but you can also spin text with free tools.

To set up your social campaign, go to Grow Your Social Presence > Social Campaigns.

Click Create New Social Campaign. Depending on the type of social campaign you select, don’t forget to replace the end of the website URL with your own.

For example: https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=http://www.yoursiteurl.net

The highlighted URL should be replaced with yours. For social types like Tumblr, it should be your Tumblr post or account URL, depending whether you choose post like or followers.

That’s about all you have to set up. Run the PSB whenever your computer is on, the longer it runs, the more credits you gain which will give your campaigns greater priority = more traffic / social mentions.

Once in a while you will be emailed about a PSB update, remove the old version and download & run the new one ASAP. If you don’t, it will stop running so you won’t be gaining credits. Also, from time to time check if your PSB is still running.

You are allowed to run multiple PSBs on different computers if your IP addresses are different. You can use a VPN to achieve this and accumulate more credits.

Wrapping It Up

As you have seen, the usage metric factors are something you don’t want to miss in your SEO strategy.

I did a poor job with my on-page SEO so I’m sure when I add more relevant text, more keywords will rank.

I was pleasantly surprised to witness how easy it is to rank this 60500 s/m keyword without backlinks all thanks to PandaBot.

    Hi Matt,

Could this SEO technique help me rank a micro-niche blog for which I’m targeting just 300 visitors daily? It’s not gonna use this on my main site of course, but how about on smaller niche sites which small goals?

Not sure I would recommend going the full PandaBot way but as you said, SEO is risk mitigation. Nonetheless, usage signals are baked into the algo at least to help them discover and index new content (Chrome?), also seen movement based on the quality of on-page user engagement to rankings for competitive queries. But Google must be way better a tracking down fake clicks nowadays ;)

Of course you can go over board with it and leave a huge footprint, but play the game smartly and manage the risk and you can fly under the radar

    Hi Matthew,

Great article, I have just downloaded Pandabot and Norton flagged it as a Trojan.Gen.2 it is low risk but what concerns me is when you click on their virus checking link “Click here for Antivirus Scan Report” it has not been checked for 3 years.

Have you or anybody else had this same result and if so does it work with no problems?

    • Matthew Woodward
      April 22nd, 2016 at 12:08 pm

I don’t use Norton myself (huge resource hog and makes computers run like poo poo) but its not unheard of for marketing automation programs to get labelled in such ways by virus companies.

      Hi Jt,

I have used crowd search.me for over 12 months and find it to be not as good as I was hoping for. It worked for a bit then most of my keywords that I was ranking for on page two without using crowd search.me droped off google all together. I was not sending huge amounts of traffic to my site with the keywords. But it might work for you, you just need to go into it with both eyes wide open and maybe use PBN that link to your money site. Just my 2 cents worth.

      • Matthew Woodward
        April 22nd, 2016 at 12:06 pm

Yup they are, which is why independent reports are showing Google Click Fraud to be in the 15-20% ranges.

They also know about private blog networks, they’ve known about them for more than a decade – but here we are in 2015 with the most competitive niches in the world dominated by private blog networks.

Put the Google juice down :)

    Hi Adi and Mat

After seeing this post a few days ago I decided to give this a try.

Just wondering, nobody seems to be talking about using this on Youtube Videos. Has anyone tried this? As I believe this would be even more powerful for Youtube and could bring your video right up to the 1st spot if done correctly. You control what retention rate you get..

I just set up a few campaigns for Video’s.

    • Matthew Woodward
      August 24th, 2015 at 1:53 pm

You could use it for Youtube videos that’s right, but personally I prefer to buy the signals when neccessary

  31. Jackie de Burca

    Hi Adi & Matthew,

I agree with many other commenters that this is an interesting read, but I personally wouldn’t try it.

Here’s what I feel – firstly, it will definitely get picked up at some stage in the future.

Secondly, why not try the old-fashioned approach of creating unique, useful content that stands the test of time.

Working purely on this basis, our blog has between 200-300 visitors a day. The blog is around 18 months old and I work on it part time when I am not working on clients’ projects.

I love creating interesting, visual content that I truly hope will give our visitors something that they can’t get easily elsewhere.

Working in SEO since 2007, like lots of others I have seen the major changes implemented by Google. These are now at the stage that authentic brands and talents have the chance to stand out.

I believe that these days, if you are authentically into your niche, and have the patience to work on it, in this way, that you will rank and be able to hold onto your rankings.

There are no short cuts that you can use to achieve this, At least none that will let you have peace of mind.

  42. chris

    Hello Adi and Matt,

Thanks for this post, I have actually been looking for this kind of service but as you know it is hard to trust anything these days without case studies and genuine testimonials.

This is the first post in a while that has followed up more of what I wanted to know after watching this ESSENTIAL video:

For those who are reading the comments for further information, you need to watch that video and you will come across the UX ranking factors:

    Brand recognition
Site interaction (BR, pages visited, dwell time, returning visitors)

I’m sure you will conclude that this tool could be golden when it comes to covering all of those bases.

SBO (search box optimisation) is basically what we are talking about here and I am going to do some tests of my own on 2 sites I have in the same niche. One ranks in the UK and another in US search for many similar keywords, both on the first page but neither higher than 3rd position.

Will report back with as much detail as possible! If this service can work then we should all benefit from it :)

  43. Abid H.

I really liked it. As far I understood, to use it, a website already has to be listed within 10 page of Google by the keyword I want to rank for. But if my site is new or the website is not within 10 page of google.. so what to do in this case? What you suggest to do to bring the website within 100 by desired keyword?

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 26th, 2015 at 10:11 am

Start by targeting ‘brand + keyword’

      • Abid H.
        June 2nd, 2015 at 7:46 pm

Hmmm.. this is a good idea.. I downloaded it to test… But one thing, I didn’t find any time credits or points.. I mean, they says that I will get time credits by using pandabot and I can use these credits for my own campaign. But how I can see how much points/credits I have earned? Am I missing anything?

and one more thing, my keyword came on 10th page. After 2 days, it goes down to 11. Any suggestion? I am not sure if it happened for pandabot or anything else.

I am not sure why or if my comments are being blocked. I found when I try to comment, it says duplicate comment. Can you please clarify what is wrong?

I am testing as you told, and I guess it is working. One thing I want to know is, suppose for a keyword ‘mykeyword’, a website ‘mydomain[dot]com’ is not ranking but a inner page ‘mydomain[dot]com/page2 is being ranked within top 10 pages. So, can I now directly start using ‘mykeyword’? I mean, I want to know is, will pandabot search for the main domain or will it also support inner pages by a keyword search?

        • Matthew Woodward
          June 4th, 2015 at 2:24 pm

It could also be because I have had no internet for 4 days and there are over 100 comments to moderate :)

You would have to contact support with that question sorry

I truly love idea of Panda bot or SERIFY but panda bot kept crashing every 10/15 mins. developer need to do something about it.

This morning, I tested pandabot and I found that if you need to get network traffic, you have to queue. I have run it for 3 hours and there is no records at all…. Is it the query takes few days? Btw, I use the free version one….

    Incredible post,

Does the network provide better performance for .com, .co.uk or .au domains?? OR does it not matter

saying simply because I have a mixture of all 3 and want to test it out on a few from a particular country i.e. .com OR .au

Pandabot seems to be moderately helping my rankings (thanks matt) however I am a little concerned by there very low number of USA members 1995 as of today and I get a lot of return visits from there site. Whats your thoughts on this long term?

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 21st, 2015 at 4:49 am

I would say returning visitors has a heavy weighting, thats a clear signal if people are returning to a site.

  50. Zaza

Hi Matthew, what about adsense ads on the website? Do these visitors inflate page views?

  51. Sophy

Great read as usual. I’m in a Facebook YouTube exchange group which has pretty much just turned into using CrowdSearch.me now and by a large margin the results are amazingly good so I can vouch for this method being the real deal.

  53. Sammy

    Hi Matthew,

I have a site which I added to the panda network. It is a few months old but only gets about 20 visitors a day..( I get approx one sale a day too) so what should i set the settings to in my panda bot settings? .. it is a very valuable site and i dont want G to F…K with it…what do you consider the risk of this panda network? I know we cant know, but what is your opinion on the risk factor?

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 6:34 am

      Hi Sammy,

This is totally new ground so no one can tell you that

    • Adi
      May 18th, 2015 at 9:34 am

The biggest risk is in how you set up your campaign. In your case I would advise not more than 5 visits a day and use many longtail keywords with only network traffic.

  54. Sam

Does it really work? I mean can’t google detect such techniques ?

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 2:41 am

Its impossible for anyone to say what Google can or cannot detect in the future

  55. tony morrison

I am trying to use pandabot but when I try to use instant traffic it says i have no sites set up. When I look at my sites set up there is a green light by the network traffic and red one by the instant traffic. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for all the info by the way I’ve learned lots from your blog.

    • Adi
      May 18th, 2015 at 9:28 am

You need to set it up in you PSB, loading in your proxy list. However, I recommend the Network traffic as it’s of much higher quality.

      • SEO tony
        May 20th, 2015 at 4:25 pm

I finally figured it out. Instant traffic is only available if you have fixed number of pages, It isnt yet available on random order of pages, that came from support.

  56. Jay

Thanks for the tutorial. I just wanted to point out that this tutorial advises us to create multiple ‘random keyword’ organic campaigns.

This is pointless, since you can simply increase the traffic limit on your one existing ‘random keyword’ organic campaign and it will have the same net effect.

A quote from the ‘random page order’ page on the Pandabot site:

“If you have added #Random Keyword# at https://my.pandabot.net/webapp/website_keywords_list.php then you may create only one “Organic Traffic Campaign with Random Order of Pages” with #Random Keyword# for each of your Websites per Search Engine (Google or Bing).”

  57. amit

I can’t understand why nobody has left a comment here. My mind has pretty much been blown! I honestly can say I have never returned to a post so much in 24hrs to check that it’s real and still exists. If this works it will change my digital marketing life. Thanks.

I think getting this type of information on such a trustworthy blog really means something. I have not looked into these types of techniques in significant detail because of a lack of trustworthy sources. If you can write similar articles or recommend somewhere that would be great.

Adi, I see this is you first post so bravo and I look forward to reading more!

I have one quick query…does this leave your computer open to being used in a ddos attack?

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 6:40 am

They have but I was speaking at the BHW conference and not had time to approve :)

    • Adi
      May 18th, 2015 at 9:21 am

      Appreciate your feedback :)

I wouldn’t worry about being used in a DDOS attack, essentially any application which has security flaws can be exploited but it rarely happens. Being infected with malware which is designed for DDOS is a different story. Also it’s regularly updated.

  60. Adolfo

Thanks for sharing this out Adi
To say I’m excited about this strategy would be an understatement and I want to try it out immediately but like everything that seems too good to be true comes the question: how risky would it be to do it on my company site?

    • Adi
      May 18th, 2015 at 9:07 am

You are welcome. The risk factor depends very much on how you set up your campaign. I didn’t go crazy in my campaign so nothing bad happened but Im testing different set ups just to see what works best and where to draw the line. If you need help setting up your campaign just let me know..

        • Adi

Strictly Network Traffic since that’s the highest quality traffic from users like you and me, no proxies.

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 6:46 am

Anytime you do anything to manipulate Google’s search results you introduce the risk of getting penalised

I wonder about Google seeing the unusual activity coming from your IP address. Do you use a different IP?

    • Adi

There is nothing unusual about browsing but you can use a VPN if you want.

  74. Jacqueline Miller

Very nice tools…I’ve already got on board and had a try with it…but there is one question: where can I check my credits left? I didn’t find the place..do I need to install Panda Smart Browser for my campaign to start running?

    • Adi
      May 18th, 2015 at 8:32 am

Check your credits under Your Network Reports » Traffic Time Credits Details on the BackOffice page.

Yes you need to run the PSB in order to gain credit to use with your campaign.

  75. George Lewington

Great post Matthew. I’m also doing some heavy testing with CTR but with Crowdsearch.me. It’s exciting as it means that almost all variables we can control as SEO’s, what can Google throw next? Making CTR look natural will be the challenge, I’m doing branded searches which does help.

    • Matthew Woodward

I am struggling to get results with CrowdSearch at the moment but I know many others that are having great results

  76. Steve

Great post – never heard of pandabot. I’d like to try it. At one point you mention “Make sure you are already ranking in the top 100 for those keywords.” Yet it seems you started your campaign 4 days after launching your site. So I’m confused; when & how did you get your KW’s ranked in the top 100? Thanks.

    • Adi

I was using this mathod almost 6 month ago.May be it was my bad luck .i am not seen any progress .
Before starting this method ,my keyword was in 15th place and after using this method my keyword was dropped and out off 100 in google. At first i thought this could be a google daning and will be come back again .But Sorry to say this site was not back before doing linkbuilding for ranking .

Here is my site condition :
1.Landing page is well optimized with targated keyword and the content lenght almost 3500 word.Well wrtitten by USA writer .

    2. Overall My site was 44 post and non of the post lenght bellow 1000 word. All contents are written by USA writter and 100% copyscape pass. All post are well optimized .Perfectly Interlinked with relavent articles.

3.Before doing this method i am not using any fency linkbuilding.

So not sure why my site was out ranked .Almost 6 month later site is coming back agin .During this 6 month i did some microbloging ,Doing Infografic marketing and At last build a PBN . KEyword is now 11th place in google .

I did this methos in my 2 website and both of them by hit by googe. Not sure where i am doing wrong .

      May 18th, 2015 at 6:54 am

You can’t just rely on links OR social OR engagement, the signals layer on top of each other and you need to take all 3 approaches into consideration

    • Adi
      May 18th, 2015 at 8:23 am

Indeed, you can decrease your rankings if you set up the campaign wrongly. Which service did you use and how was it set up?

  84. hamm decor

its good to know about such user engagement method,, indeed you always come up with great and easy strategy

  85. Ryan

Interesting case study Matthew. Thanks for all of the usual detail. I’m curious if you would trust this kind of service on an important money site? That is, do you see this kind of thing eventually being sniffed out and penalized by G?

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 6:55 am

Every time you try and manipulate Google’s rankings there is risk – only you know if you want to take that risk

  86. Michael

Matthew, if you have a site in a niche where bounce rates and time on site are naturally high…do you think “manipulating” these metrics would have a large effect of rankings?

I think a test is in order. Will report back.

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 6:55 am

Exactly – forget what I think, do your own testing :)

  87. Amit

I think you broke their site? Can’t download it anymore. Nice post!

  88. Ryan Stewart

Interesting, but we definitely need some better data to prove this works. I’ve dicked around with some companies that offer these services and to be honest, I saw 0 results.

    1. What were the keywords that jumped up in rankings? We need to take into account the level of competition.
    2. Did you segment out the spam organic traffic you were sending to your site? We see an increase in organic traffic from the Analytics account, but you were sending a shit load of spam through Google, so of course it’s going to increase!

Give us a breakdown of GWT to see what the queries were driving the traffic.

While I know that Google does look at CTR and UX metrics, I can’t say that this post really proves it. We need better data!

  89. Riri TBMR

    Matthew, is these methods safe?

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 6:56 am

There is no such thing as a safe way to manipulate Google

  90. Nicolas

Interesting article. Would this been black hat SEO. I would not want to penalise myself

    • Matthew Woodward
      May 18th, 2015 at 6:57 am

All forms of SEO can get you penalised, there is no such thing as ‘white’ or ‘black’ because the objective of both approaches is to manipulate the algorithm – which is against webmsater guidelines.

        June 4th, 2015 at 11:45 am

I respectfully disagree with your statement that the objective of SEO is to manipulate the algorithm and can get you penalized. In Google’s own words, the purpose of SEO is to “improve [your] sites’ interaction with both users and search engines” and to “make it easier for search engines to crawl, index
and understand your content.” Trying to cheat the system is not SEO; it is just bad practice. (Quoted from Google’s SEO guide: http://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en/us/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf)

        • Matthew Woodward
          June 4th, 2015 at 2:22 pm

How many SEO clients have you landed purely on the basis of improving users and search engines interaction with their site? The definition of SEO is simple, it is Search Engine Optimisation. Meaning to optimise a website for search engine performance.

What is the number 1 factor in search engine performance in Google? Backlinks

    Hey Matthew,

Great post. I was actually thinking of doing the same strategy on my website but haven’t really find the time to set it up.

Thanks to this post and for introducing us pandabot, I will not start this on my website and see what happens.

I just have one questions. How do I determine the number of visits I need to send to my website in order not to overdo it? For example my website is having 100 organic visitors/day. How much traffic should I send using pandabot base on that 100visits/day?

Hope you could answer my question.

    • Adi
      May 18th, 2015 at 8:02 am

I would begin with 10-20 visits a day and see how that goes. Just make sure you use different keywords to make it as natural as possible.

  97. Dale Reardon

Sounds great – only one query.

With all this fake traffic coming to your website the stats in GA are going to reflect too many visitors. How do you tell how many real visitors you are getting? Is there a way to filter out this bot traffic?

Just curious to know the number of users per country.
I expect that we can have good result for english website but what about other languages like french & dutch or for small contries like Belgium.

Nah they wont show you everything

Definitely giving this a go…Although I’m having trouble signing up to Pandabot. Maybe it’s something at my end. I’ll try again tomorrow when I wake up. Anyhow thanks for the great read.

Isn’t it something Google would detect after a while?

      No one knows

    Hi Mathew,

    Great thoughts.

This thought process was doing rounds in our mastermind sessions, but there were no actual results to check its impact.

Your way of showing results is just awesome.

IMHO, user dwell time plays an important part too.

Very fascinating! I tried Dan Anton crowdsearch me program when it first came out and I actually think I hurt my rankings with it. Granted, I didn’t use their suggested daily search amounts, but cranked it all the way up — especially for the brand term (I thoughr ir would make my site look like it had gone viral)so that may have played a role in my pain.

I love the way you keep careful track of everything. These writeups are insanely awesome.

I havent had positive or negative results with crowdsearch myself, but yes cranking the volumes up is going to set some alarm bells off for sure

I’ve been playing with CrowdSearch and it’s doing fairly well in the testing. You do have to follow their recommendations and not crank it up too much, and it’s definitely most effective at moving things up that are already on page 1 or high on page 2. What I’ve also done when it’s not ranked well on a broader keyword is do several long-tail campaigns on related keywords, and those have helped the ranking for the broader keyword.

Love this write-up, though — going to go start testing it this weekend.

Genuinely really interesting and I’d love to try it out, but the PandaBot site must be one of the least trustworthy sites I’ve ever seen…

I understand how Google can measure bounce rate, and use that as a ranking factor but what if you don’t use Analytics? How are Google going to get the other metrics or are you saying that they will punish you if you don’t use GA?

Thanks Matt, it’s interesting. I just feel these signals are far too easy to manipulate for them to provide that much weight. Have you personally any experience using this?

        • Matthew Woodward
          May 21st, 2015 at 5:22 am

Well backlinks are also very easy to manipulate, I would say these signals are harder because of the need of a distributed network – but for sure you know there will be penaltys for this at somepoint so don’t go overboard!

  108. Enstine Muki

I’m a bit skeptical about using this on my main blog
Will Google not be smart enough to find this out in the nearest future?

      May 18th, 2015 at 7:05 am

That is true of any time you try to manipulate search rankings

  109. Richie Richardson

great post Matt. Even I have been receiving some emails as to how faking metrics helped people in ranking sites. However, I wonder for how long this is going to be a viable strategy coz it is shared publicly?

Apart from that I am going to test myself and see how ranking improves.

    Thanks for the post!

Well backlinks are still working 17 years on :)

  110. Nabeel

Hey there, I would like to know if you are OK to use this trick on this website of yours? If not then I think I would not risk any of my clients sites too. Google is always on watch and kills any such methods as soon as it finds it. It definitely is a great glitch but I believe it will soon be taken care of.

SEO is risk management. You try to manipulate Google, you accept the risk whether thats backlinks or anything else.

But you didn’t answer the question which would imply that crowd sourcing is a risky tactic.

Even On Page SEO is technically risky, but everyone is aware that unless you abuse it, you wouldn’t be penalized. And everyone I imagine would implement a form of on page SEO. THis however is on the same level of PBNs when they were the big rage 4-5 years ago. Now many have learnt the hard way. THe same will apply with this. Google always catches up.

I’m going to assume Matt, that you haven’t or wouldn’t apply these strategies on your most valuable sites.

These tactics work fine perhaps for little niche sites that take a week to put up and you’re after a quick cash grab through spike in rankings.

I don’t see it as a risky tactic, but I am saying all elements of SEO come with risk regardless of what that is.

And PBN’s are by far the most effective ranking weapon today, they have been for years and until Google stops relying on backlinks as a ranking signal – they will continue to be the most effective ranking weapon.
