Hi guys Matthew Woodward here and today we’re going to take a look at GSA search engine ranker that’s come along leaps and bounds in the past year.

I’ll show you to use easily and avoid confusion so you can set things up properly and get the most out of it. You’ll learn how to build high quality links to your site and how to set up tiered link building structures with ease.

I’m also going to show you how to use it to remove links which is a great feature to help protect you against future Google algorithm updates. And this is going to be a long tutorial so let’s just jump right in.

So let’s jump into the GSA search engine ranker software quickly. And first of all, I’m just going to give you a quick overview of the interface and then we’ll drive down into the options and create new projects and things like that.

So here you have your project pane and a list of all your projects will appear here. Right now there’s only one project and that is the sample project.

Up here you have various tools for creating new campaigns and changing options, and making sure everything’s running. Here you have a list of the last verified links that were built and they are colour code in that a green link means it is do follow, yellow means it is no follow and sometimes you get grey links appear which are re-direct links actually you can see here.

Down here you have a log of all of the different things that are going on in the background so you can see lots of pinging there and here we can see where we’re submitting URLs.

At the bottom, you have various stats. Here you can see the current running number of threads which is zero, how many links are being submitted today, how many links were verified today, how many active proxies there are, your number of submitted links per minute, the number of captures sent to capture services and solved, the amount of memory in use and the CPU usage.

So as you can see, a lot of the things are self-explanatory and if you hold your mouse over various things it comes up with various tool tips to explain different options to you as well if you get stuck.

If you right click on a project, you also get lots of different options here. You can change whether the current project is active or inactive and there are various different modes of active so you can have it only verifying links that it submitted, only verifying emails, only searching for links and verifying them but for the most part, you just want the main active tab here.

You can also list by priority and also look at the URLs so we can look at the submitted URLs here and you can export them all or even get some more detailed statistics including some charts and breakdowns and you can control the time frame here.

Or actually here you can also broken down by engine and what type of link it is and what project it belongs to. If you do exactly the same but this time we can see the verified URLs, so the verified URLs are links that have been submitted and are currently live and pointing to your site or target URL whereas submitted means it has not yet been verified that the link is live yet, it’s only been submitted.

So looking at verified URLs again, it’s all broken down, a count of the internal and external links whether it is do follow or not. We can get stats again and also break it down by an anchor text report as well and you can see how that’s all broken down there.

So those stats and these lists of verified URLs are very handy to have and tucked away in this show URLs menu here. You can also choose to select various projects, if you want to make bulk changes to them. You can change the sorting of the projects in this window here.

You can take a look at the overall diagram of links that have been submitted and verified and you can break it down here by engine types, blog comment, trackback, indexer, or actually within the engines themselves so you can see some keywordluv links and whois and some trackback links, etc. there.

Again, there are some other options here. Import target URLs is a handy feature to have. Now if you have scraped your own target list of URLs perhaps with Scrapebox outside of GSA SER and you want it to import them for submission, you would do that here. Import target URLs either from file or from clipboard.

You can also import them from site lists but I will cover that shortly.

And here you can modify the project which in essence offers you a lot of the options when you double click in open other projects but we’ll explore that in a little bit more detail later on.

So let’s take a look at some of the more advanced options quickly. Now by default the threads are set at 50, that’s fine for most people but if you got a more powerful machine and bandwidth to play with, you can increase this. I have a quad core processor and 16 gigs of ram and an 18 meg fibre line so I can easily handle 250 threads but by default this is 50 which will be fine for most people.

Next you want to make sure you are using proxies. Now you have two options when it comes to proxies. You can either use GSA search engine ranker to go out and automatically scrape public proxies from all of these different types of sites and it will test them and verify they are working for you.

And you set that up by telling it to automatically search for new proxies every 60 minutes when it’s only less than 100 active proxies you want to test proxies and test all of the good ones and remove bad proxies when they are older than, I don’t know, perhaps 3 hours.

Now with that set up, GSA will go out and scrape its own proxies for you. The problem with this is the public proxies aren’t that reliable, they’re often pretty slow and you get a much higher level of rate of failure with them which you know, it really just slows things down.

Whereas if you spend perhaps just ten dollars a month on some semi-dedicated proxies from Buyproxies for example, performance is much greatly increased, you get much higher submission and approval rates and it’s just much more efficient. So for the amount of money it costs to get the private proxies it really is worth it.

So to add your own proxies in that manner, you just need to come to add proxy, import from clipboard and I already have them on the clipboard, I think. Yes! And we can mark them as private.

So with your proxies imported, either using private or public, you can then in the options here choose when to use the proxies and whether to use public or private ones.

Now I always use them for the search engine, submissions and PR checking and I always use the private proxies as I’ve just explained the differences. If you’re just using the public ones, you can leave these unticked or just hit the public ones like that.

But seriously, invest in some semi-dedicated or private proxies from somebody like BuyProxies, it is such a lifesaver.

Next you will need to set up captcha solving services. Now GSA supports a huge range of different captcha solving services but you need to understand there are really two types of captcha solving services going on here.

You can either use something software based like captcha sniper or GSA captcha breaker and this will for a one time fee, a piece of GSA SEO software that tries to automatically solve captchas for you.

Now these do work pretty well, however they do also fail quite often. So the best way to set up your captcha service is to use first of all, GSA captcha breaker as your first and primary service because it will help you reduce captcha costs. But then use a human based solving service like death by capture or decaptcha where any that fail from captcha breaker get passed on to these services and they’re solved by an actual human and these are like, 2 dollars for a thousand capture solves or something like that, it’s really really cheap.

Setting them up is easy, that’s GSA capture set up here. If you got the GSA SEO software running locally, that will automatically work for you. And then I’m going to add Death by Capture as my secondary service, it’s one of the cheaper human based solving ones and you just need to enter your login details here and you can hit test and see your balance.

So this is what you should set up and you can also set them up for retries here and also some other options of when to use different capture services. With capture set up you can move on to indexing, that will it will automatically ping every back link it creates and if you want to, you can also integrate one of the many indexing services that GSA supports.

We have the GSA SEO indexer is a native support and other things like you know Linklicious that’s a popular one, Nuclear Link Indexer, Back Links Indexer, Link pipeline, Lindexed. They’re all really easy to integrate, tick the box, add the API key and that is it.

Now I don’t really see the need for the use of these indexing services. I know some people like to use them and if you’ve got them, by all means use them but really, you can avoid having to pay the extra money for these. We can get links indexed just by building more links to them with GSA and save ourselves on these costs.

The filter, you can choose to skip submissions if certain to URLs or are present and add to your backlist, you can leave this at default. You don’t need to drill down this when you’re just getting started.

And the advanced section now you can build site lists that can be used globally by each project. So what that means is if you have three projects here, each projects would create a list of identified sites it could post to, successful sites it did actually post to, verified links that it was actually able to create after successfully submitting them and the ones that failed and never became live or verified after they were successful.

Now I would suggest that you actually keep a list of your successful and verified submissions. And then you can use these later on in other projects, so if this project here we can see it’s got 189 verified URLs, we can easily and I will show you how to do that quickly, if we created a new project we could say to import the target URLs from site lists, submitted and verified.

So you can imagine after using GSA search engine ranker for a few months you will have a huge database of submitted and verified links that you can then use across other projects really easily. So I encourage you in the advanced settings here to make sure that these options are ticked.

And you can also choose a different formats here and other bits where this is stored but the default settings are fine, just tick these two boxes and hit oK.

Last but not least, once you have things set up and as a sample project here, you want things to begin, just click the start button and you’ll see GSA fire up and it’s going out right now finding new targets to post links to. As it finds them, it submits the links and later on it will actually verify if the links are live or not. And you can see more verified links here and you’ll see this list change as it finds new links.

Now you sometimes get pop ups like this appear and what this is is when it’s trying to submit a link, sometimes there are other fields that need filling out and GSA doesn’t know which options to pick so it asks you.

But this can actually become quite annoying because really we want GSA to be completely hands off and not bother us with those messages and a lot of people get stuck with this and wonder how to disable these pop ups like we can see here, we got another one coming up here so how you do that if we just hit stop here.

Come into the project and in options you can say if a form field can’t be filled, choose random. And also make sure ask all services/users to fill captures, so next time GSA gets offered a choice like that instead of asking you, it will just choose a random.

And that is for that specific project only. You’ll need to do that in each project.

Also in options, in capture here you need to untick this box so what happens if the capture services if neither of them work as a last ditch attempt, GSA will ask you. But we don’t really want that to happen, in my personal preference is that it just skips over submission and moves on to the next one and just forget about it. So make sure that is unticked.

And that’s how to avoid those popups. If we were to run start now, we won’t see those popups appear.

So that is a general overview of the interface, how to start and stop projects, different options that you need to set up along with the different campaign specific options. So let’s actually take a look at creating a sample project.

Before we do that though, let me give you a quick tour of the sample project. If you double click on it you can open it up like this. And it might look pretty confusing at first but don’t worry it’s very easy to familiarize yourself with.

First of all, on the left hand side here you can choose what type of links you want to submit. So here we can see blog comments, and if you click the plus here, these are all the different blog comment platforms it supports. And if you hold your mouse over it, you can get some more details of whether you can get a do follow link or not, whether the link has anchor text, if it creates its own page, etc. etc.

You can see there’s loads of different types here. We got articles, blog comments, directories, documents, different exploits, forums, guestbooks, image comments, indexer, microblogs, pingbacks, referrers, social bookmarks, social networks, track backs, URl shorteners, video, video-adult, web 2 and wikis.

Now a lot of people when they first come into here, they’ll look at something like, let’s have a look. Like the article section and here it kind of looks like that GSA doesn’t really post to that many different article sites if you have software like SENuke XCR for example, and look at the articles, you’ll have a list of hundreds of them, maybe even thousands of different articles sites to post to.

But when you come to GSA it kind of looks a bit underwhelming, there’s not many sites to post to. But GSA actually works differently in that each of these is a platform and a platform can be used by thousands of different sites.

For example, wordpress is a blogging platform which is used by millions of sites across the Internet and we can see here if people using the wordpress article director plugin, this will post to that platform.

So each one of these platforms actually has thousands of different URLs and sites behind it that you can get links from. So it might look underwhelming but there is an awful lot there, an awful lot of different backlink variety for you to choose from.

You know each of these are broken down real easily, like social bookmarks and other different information about each different type of link.

So that is choosing which link you want to use. In this window here we have to import various data and information and this actually updates based on what we select here. So if we add social bookmarks for example, you’ll see it’s asking us for some additional details like log in to use passwords and catch words and descriptions.

If we untick that again you can see it’s only providing the options needed for the trackbacks, indexes and blog comments.

In here you have also lots of other different options, we’ll go through these in detail when we set up our campaign but this allows you to really fine tune things and take some real control over your campaign. There are lots of new options being added to GSA in the past year that gives you much more granular control over the links you create than it used to.

So that is what the actual project campaign and editing looks like. Let’s move on to creating our own.

If you just come to new here, this will create a new project and first thing that we want to do is select the types of links we’re going to use in our project. Now there’s not a one size fits all answer for this, depending on the goals of your campaign and what you’re building links to is going to change what settings you use here.

But as a general rule of thumb, if you are building links to you money site, you want to make sure you’re using contextual high quality links. And the contextual link is a link with relevant content surrounding it.

So examples of these might be if we just come tick the default options here to avoid any confusion, that may be articles, social networks, and wikis and web 2s and then you may also choose to add perhaps videos, social bookmarks, and document sharing and directories for example.

But in this example, we’re just going to keep it pretty simple and we are going to set up something with article directories, social bookmarks, social networks, web 2s and wikis all of which will provide contextual links to your site.

Once you have set these up, we need to move into these settings.

The first thing you’re going to add is the URL to your money site. It’s also worth nothing if you get stuck in any of these fields, just mousing over provides much more detailed explanations throughout. So if you do get stuck and you’re not sure, everything is well explained as you can see.

So the URL. This is the URL or URLs you can have more than one that you want to build links to. And if you have more than one URL in this field, GSA will automatically rotate through them and pick a random URL each time.

You can also choose to use a URL variations when it is building the links and you can see the different samples there and that basically just changes whether it is using capital letters or not. This is actually quite a good option and mixes things up really nicely.

So you could perhaps drop that to 10% just to keep things not blatantly manipulated but show that variation.

In the keywords field, these are the keywords that it will use to go out and find relevant sites to post your links to. So really here you want a longer list of keywords as you can that’s relevant to your campaign, separated by a comma. And I already have them prepared, so I can paste them in here.

That looks like I haven’t got many in there but I actually have. One minute, let me just re-add to that, there we go.

You can also choose to collect more of these keywords and target sites as it goes and use those keywords to find new targets. So they are handy options to have and I’m not going to use them in this example.

And when searching for sites to post to, you can tell it to search in quotes and get more lasertargeted matches and that’s quite handy option to have, especially when building links to your money site.

Now the anchor text setting, these are the anchor text that will be used and should be the keywords you are actually trying to rank for in here. So I have some of those ready and we can drop them in there. And it’s important to note this must be in spin text whereas that one’s comma separated.

You can, if you want you can use these keywords as your anchor text instead of these. If you want to do that, tick that box but I like to keep the control over the anchor text here and leave that unticked.

Now where this becomes really interesting is how GSA can automatically build out a natural looking link profile that isn’t over optimized and going to get hit by Penguin. So you can actually tell it OK I want, maybe I don’t know 25% of my links to be a partial match anchor and a partial match anchor is if we have pay day loan here, that is an exact match anchor.

But if we had cheap pay day loan, that would be a partial match anchor because it still includes our main phrase pay day loan but it’s actually cheap pay day loan so it only partially matches the anchor text.

So you should prepare a list of partially matching anchor text and we can see we’ve done that there. And you can also choose to include branded anchor text which is also quite important. Again you can tweak with the percentage, but a branded anchor in our example our site is your domain.com so our brand name might be yourdomain, your domain, your domain.

You know if this was the Matthewwoodward.co.uk blog for example you might write, Matthew Woodward without a space and then with the .co.uk that would be my branded anchor.

So you can choose to use branded anchors as well. I suggest that you do so and you can just give that a tick there. And you can also use LSI anchor text so you can tick your anchor text here, use the Google wonderwheel or scrapebox for example to pull in some more related terms and drop that in here.

The other two options that I always tick is generic anchor text. These are the anchor text like click here, view more, get more information and you can see a list of the default generic anchors it comes with, pretty extensive here. But I always like to tick that and try and boost that up as much as possible here.

Down here, well actually I’m going explain to you citation option. If you have branded anchor text defined, using a citation it will instead of creating a link, it will create just a naked text URL, just mentioning your brand name. Now this really helps make your profile look natural because not everyone when they write about you or publish something includes an actual link, sometimes it’s just a raw HTMl anchor or just talking about a company and they don’t link back to it.

So using this citation means a portion of your links will be created without a link but will actually mention your name and this indirectly helps with the naturalness of your profile. So using citations a very low percentage really does help you out and I suggest that you do that.

Last but not least, anchor text variations and it explains it here. But like the URL variation up here that changes the http sometimes it’s capital, sometimes it’s not, sometimes it’s the first letter in domain is capital, sometimes it’s not. Exactly the same but for anchor text.

Sometimes the first letter is capitalized and the second letter’s not and it really helps mix it up. I like to tick that and this variation applies to all of these settings here.

So as you can see the amount of control you have over the anchor text is built to your site, the partial matches, the branding whether you’re using generic terms, blank citations and the anchor text variations really does allow you to have control over natural looking profile.

So I suggest you spend time setting this section up and not skimping over it.

Here I’ve just used some sample content, there’s not been a major amount of thought put into that. It’s just to show you how it all plugs in.

But once that’s set up, we can move onto the other fields.

Next, you want to move onto filling out the about yourself section. Now this includes some default content that you can use, or you can use something like Kontent machine, come to tools and the about me builder and generate as many as you need really easily. And just paste it into this box here.

In fact, you can use Kontent machine to automatically fill all of these fields out for you in one go and I’ll show you that later on in the tutorial.

But you can grab some about me content here, drop that in.

Coming down, you can define log ins and passwords that you use but by default the randomize box it ticked so it will automatically create them for you.

Website title, this is used in the bookmarks submissions and it is the title of your website. So I have some content prepared, I can drop that in and category you need to come to edit. And you can either use a list of suggested categories here and which I might do.

Hit OK. Or you can add some root categories here and if you use a star or wild card, it will try and match any category close to that so I’m just going to add Finance and money and loan.

Once that’s done, you can hit OK and what this will actually do is when there are categories that it needs to choose, it’ll go through and these and try to find the best match based on what you’ve already put in.

So you can hit OK there. The description if you’re submitting bookmarks, this is the bookmark description which we can put in here. The forum comment this sometimes gets used in the wikis we have set up. We can leave it at default or create your own content to go in there, just some general facts information kind of type of thing.

In here, along the description for bookmark sites that use a long description, I tend to just use the same 250 description here. This may sometimes lead to a higher failure rate but for the amount of time it takes to write two different descriptions, the time invested versus the reward ratio just isn’t there.

Coming down, forum nickname, forum password, again its randomized this will automatically create user passwords and also a forum subject but we won’t be using that. You can leave it at default.

Once this all of that is ready, we just have a few more tabs to work through to set up our campaign. First of all, we have the article manager which allows us to import articles to use for the submissions. I’m going to come back to this in a minute because there’s quite a little bit I want to discuss here.

So let’s jump to the options. Now we have lots of options to work through here which can be quite confusing but trust me, it’s pretty simple.

So first of all, you can choose to pause the project after a certain amount of submissions or verifications so you could say I want to pause a project after 100 submissions for 1 day. So after it’s submitted 100 links, it won’t submit any more links until the next day and it’ll submit a 100.

Or you can say actually I want it to pause after it’s successfully verified 100 live links and you get different options here as you click through them.

So that’s how you control the drip feed of the links being built.

If you set up the captcha solving services, in the options you need to make sure that this box is ticked and you want to make sure to ask all services to fill captures. You can also get it to override the global retry option we set earlier but you can just leave this for the most part.

If a form can’t be filled, remember those annoying pop ups we were getting before asking us for information? Change this to choose random and then you won’t get those pop ups and GSA will just pick something at random and move through. Enable custom mode, you don’t need to know anything about.

These verify link options you can leave at default if you want to. There’s not really any need to change them. Send verified links to indexing services so this includes the pingers and if you have the other options set up you need to make sure they’re ticked.

Use character spinning when possible, avoid this option. If you’re building links to your money site, we don’t want to be using that.

And you can randomly use typos and spelling errors in descriptions to help fight duplicate content. This actually is a pretty cool option and it makes things look much more human like it’s being done by a human and made a little mistake. So tick that box and play with the percentage.

Try to always place URL with anchor text I always leave that unticked and continuously try to post to a site even if it failed before, I leave that unticked.

If you need to use tags, you can choose to use just anchor texts or keywords so sometimes when you submit a bookmark, it’ll ask you to tag, add tag. Here you can choose whether to use anchor text as the source here or the keywords as a source here.

Anchor text is generally fine.

Now here we get to choose, in fact I’m just going to minimize that to make it a little bit less confusing. How to get target URLs.

So what GSA SER does is it looks at all of these different types of platforms and combines with your keywords here to find target sites to post to. And to do that it uses search engines so we have lots of different search engines here it can use as the source. But if you right click and you can just say check by country for example.

And I tend to always just check by country and United States. But if you were trying to rank as a site in the Spanish market for example you might choose Spain here and United States, OK.

And that will, if we scroll through, you’ll see that it’s ticked various American based search engines for us.

I like to always use keywords to find target sites. This does return less results but it returns more relevant and accurate results which is what you really want when you’re building links to your money site.

Remember before we were talking about in the options the global site list where you could collect URLs that have been submitted and verified from other projects, if you want to use those lists, tick this box. If not, untick it.

And you can also choose to analyze and post to competitor backlinks. Now this is a pretty good feature but it does have some flaws. What it does is it will look at the current sites that are ranking for a given keyword and try to replicate their backlink profile. Now it doesn’t work amazingly well but it does work to some degree.

The drawback with it though is if you have say down here said I only want to get links from domains PR 3 and above and your competitor has a really low quality spammy link, if this box is ticked it will try and replicate that spammy link and ignore these settings.

It will also if down here you said I don’t want to use micro blogs but your competitors has a micro blog link, it will create it. It will ignore the fact that you haven’t got it ticked here. So this option is handy but it also introduces an uncontrolled risk.

So use that at your own will.

Here once we have set up how to get our target URLs, we can set up scheduled posting, I generally don’t use this. But if you want it to get more than one link from the same site you can tick that and you can change these options here to limit how many times you hit that site so your account doesn’t get banned and your links deleted, etc.

The filter URLs options which is the last set of options on this screen is very important especially if you’re building links to your money site. Lots of options here, first of all you can choose to skip sites with more than X amount of outgoing links on one page.

So if GSA SER says right I’m going to build a link from this page but it’s got too many outbound links already, it’ll skip it but if it falls under that number, it’ll build the link.

Now there’s been lots of studies and reviews of data and things and it tends to be on average sites have around 125 links on them in a page. So you can actually increase this quite safely to 100.

You can also choose to skip building sites that if the PR is below a certain number or not. Now the argument here is you’re only building links from domains that have page rank 3-6, that doesn’t create a very natural profile.

But if you build lots of links from very low quality sites, that also doesn’t build a natural profile. So I like to skip sites with a PR below 0. Now remember with PR you have NA which means Google’s giving it no PR value at all, it doesn’t really care. Or you can have PR 0 which means Google has looked at it and has assigned a PR value of 0.

So I like to go from 0 and anything below 0, anything that is NA gets skipped and anything 0 and above is fine. This helps create something natural.

You might want also want to create a secondary project that only builds high PR links for example. So you can get that real mix of links.

You can also choose to skip unknown PR if you want to retain as much control as possible, you should keep this ticked. And then you can say, well am I checking against the PR of the actual domain or the actual page? Now if you use PR of actual page you’re going to get a lot less results so use PR of domain.

Here you can choose what type of backlinks to create. Now I know we have these options ticked here, but if you have the competitor’s backlinks ticked, you can have a little bit more control here. And also within each of these link types are different types of links types if that makes sense.

So for example, if, which is a good example here. Sometimes you can create… if you were creating a profile, sometimes you might create a profile that has a URL link, or sometimes you might create a profile that has an anchor text link or sometimes you might create a profile that’s got some contextual content on it here. If you didn’t want to create those types, you can untick them.

Here as well, you can try to skip creating no follow links. And remember, if you mouse over these you can see if this creates a do follow link or not. Ticking this option it will try and skip creating no follow links.

The problem with this is and I know a lot of people like no follow and do follow links and etc is a natural link profile does have an element of no follow links and no follow links. So to say only create do follow links is unnatural. So I leave this unticked because we would try to fly under the radar here.

You can also skip sites where bad words appear and you can see this so you might even learn some new swear words going through this list. Use it at your own indiscretion. But you can add it and import and delete words that are bad and you don’t want to build links from.

This is generally a good option to tick if you’re building links to your money site. And you can also do the same thing whether words appear in the URL or domain.

You can also choose to tick to skip sites from different countries and are in different languages. Again, use this at your own indiscretion.

Next come up to the email verification tab. As you can see here there’s already an email address in place for us but we don’t really want to use this. Really there’s three different types of email address.

You get what this is, which is a disposable email address that doesn’t require you to create an account and there’s loads of disposable ones for you to choose from here.

The problem is if you have use a disposable email address a lot of these sites you’re going to be posting to have anti-spam measures and actually block these domains from signing up entirely so you’re going to get really high fail rate.

The next one is web mail based services like hotmail, gmail, AOL, mail.com for example. These require you to sign up for an account and you can actually create an account here in hotmail, google mail, yahoo for example.

These are not as widely blocked as the disposable emails although you will find that some sites do still block webmail based signs up to help protect against spam. Not many, but some of them do so you do get a bit of a failure rate using hotmail address for example.

The final type of email address is a self-hosted one at your own domain name.com and you can use a catch all cpanel email for example and that will get you the highest success rate. But 99% of people are going to be fine using a hotmail or gmail account. You can either create them down here or do what I do and buy them a couple hundred of them from Fiverr that work really well.

So let’s add our hotmail account, you just click Add. Let me grab the email address and you can see it’s automatically worked out these server settings for us which is a handy feature. All you need to do is drop the password in down there.

Delete the temporary email, we don’t have to use that. Delete the selected and down here you have some options. I like to tick wait at least 15 minutes between two logins and you can leave the rest of them at default.

Last but not least, test this because if this doesn’t work, your entire campaign is at risk. So let’s just test that login works, OK and we can see everything is successful.

So the last thing that we need to do is add some articles with the article manager. Now the article manager you need to put some additional thought into this.

If you’re building links directly to your money site, it’s important that you prepare hand spun high quality content and I recommend you to check out the advanced spinning tutorial to learn how to do this properly.

Now the article manager has quite a few different options so I’m just going to take you through general set up quickly and the variations.

So assuming you got article or articles prepared, all you need to do is click on add, enter manually and you can add the title in there, along with the actual article body into there.

The summary box will automatically use the first paragraph of the article and we can have a preview of this here. As you can see it’s added the links in for us.

If you click on OK, that is one article added. If you wanted to add another article, which I have here article 2, you just again click add, enter manually and we can drop the title in and also the actual article body, just grab that and hit OK.

Then down here you have some additional options now. How to insert the link, sometimes it will insert the link into a sentence at the bottom or within the article or just randomly add the link in the middle of the article which makes no sense, or have it add no link at all.

If you have the sentence at the bottom, let’s just preview that and show you what it looks like. It adds it like this at the bottom this sentence here, it’s like a random sentence that it adds in. It lacks control to be honest, you don’t have much control over what is placed here and I think this place is risk if you are building links directly to your money site.

So what you should actually do and I go over this in the advanced spinning tutorial, is actually when you spin the articles you should add the links in directly and there’s a couple of ways you can do this. GSA SER actually provides a handy tag for us which looks like this and it says a href equals percent url percent anchor text and what it will do is replace percent URL with the URLs here and the percent anchor text with the anchor text here.

So what I recommend you actually do is when preparing your content, you actually add the links in at that point and then in GSA, you can select to insert no link. Also following my spinning tutorial I will be adding contextual links which actually help disguise what you’re doing a little bit more and make it look a bit more natural.

Where there’s variation between this and the advanced spinning tutorial, is in the advanced spinning tutorial I teach you to add images and videos at random. You can actually skip over this step as GSA will do that for you and you can choose how many to add here.

That saves you a bit of time and preparation on the spinning of the content. All you actually need to do is create the article, spin the text, add your money site links, add your contextual links, and then it is ready to add into GSA here.

This is assuming you are building links direct to your money site.

You have other options here, do not submit duplicate articles per account, per site/domain, etc. So I choose anywhere because we don’t want duplicate content anywhere.

That is essentially your money site linking campaign set up. Once that is done, you can click on OK and you will see the campaign is here and if you want to rename it, you can do so. Modify project, rename, I don’t know, money site campaign for example.

Anytime you want to change options, just double click and it opens up here. Like before, you have that same right click menu to get all of this submitted and verified URLs and all the different diagrams and charts and everything like that.

That is pretty much how you set up a campaign with GSA search engine ranker. So now you know how to set up a campaign, let’s look at some of the other things we can do.

Way back in May 2012 I asked the GSA team if they could integrate tiered link building into GSA and as you can see, straight away they came back here and said they were adding that feature which is a real testament to the GSA team. A lot of the updates that come out are a new features off the back of user request and tiered link building is one of those that they released, it was like a week after I requested it they built this in.

So to set up a tiered link building campaign it’s pretty much the same as a normal campaign. Here we have the campaign that we just created so let’s say we want to create a second tier of links to that. We just click new and click new campaign and set it up as we have done previously. I’m just going to enter some dummy content in there.

The only difference is though we need to tick this box and it says use verified URLs of another project and if you tick that, you choose the project, your tier one project which is the money site campaign and click on OK.

So what this will do, let’s just create that and click ok and give it a name. So as you can see here, what this campaign will do is build links to the verified links of this campaign. So this is tier 1 to your money site and this is tier 2 to your tier 1 and if you wanted to add a third tier, again you set everything up, use verified URLs of another project, and this time we would pick the tier and hit OK and OK again.

There we go. We have tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3. So using your knowledge of how to set up a campaign now, you can see how easy it is to create a tiered linking structure.

One of the other cool features is the ability to remove links that GSA has created. Now the problem with Google and SEO in general is that it always moving the gold post, so what works now may not work in 12 months and may in fact get you penalized.

If that happens you need to go and clean up your backlink profile which is a very long and drawn out process. But any links created with GSA, if you just right click on the project that created the links and changed the status to active remove links that when you’re running it will go through all the links it’s created, log in and remove them.

There are some types of links that can’t remove like blog comments where you don’t register and have control over the content once it’s submitted but a lot of the links it can log in and remove them for you which is a really really cool feature.

Now if you want to set up campaigns quickly and you’ll certainly want to do this on your tiers. You can actually take advantage of the import function down here, combined with Kontent Machine.

Now Kontent machine there’s a much more detailed tutorial about how to use it but let me show you quickly. It’s already got my content prepared, I can hit build and export, come down to GSA SER, click on export, we can save that somewhere and click save.

That will export out for us. Once that’s done, we just hit OK and come back to GSA, tools, import, data field, GSA and you can choose which fields you want it to fill. Hit OK and you’ll see straight away that it’s populated all of our content and all of our fields for us which is a great time saver when you are working on the lower tiers. If you give it a test here, you can see that content in there.

So that’s the quick way of setting up and generating content. You can also use here we have an article manager and if you click on add you can search online and mix the articles so you can mix either just paragraphs, paragraphs and sentences or just sentences.

You just enter your search term and it will go out and scrape those for you and it will go out and bring back articles.

You do need to set up your spin config settings for that to work though. It supports a range of different spinning software in here like best spinner, word AI, spin chimp, spinner chief and so on.

So there’s just a couple more options you have when it comes to either generating some content or actually completely populating the entire project with these using kontent machine.

By now you should know your way around GSA search engine ranker very well and be familiar with all of the different options and how to use it. Once you’ve got all your campaigns set up to kick everything off all you need to do is hit start and that will go out and begin building everything out for you as you’ve set it up.

So there we have it, GSA search engine ranker really has come a long way the past year and has been updated nearly every single day with book fixes, minor features and major features.

It can post to a huge range of link platforms and includes a bunch of advanced features such as the anchor text control. One of the features I really like though is the ability to remove links GSA has created in one click. Who knows what Google will penalize next and that is a handy feature to have.

You can also pick it up for a one time fee rather than an expensive monthly subscription like SENuke XCR and you’ll be surprised at just how cheap it actually is.

All in all, GSA search engine ranker is an essential tool to have in your arsenal. See ya! [/spoiler]

GSA Search Engine Ranker is a tool that’s come to be one of the most powerful in the link building world. Last year it went through several updates and transformations to make it easier and faster.

I will teach you to:

  • Setup GSA Search Engine Ranker properly
  • Create tiered linking structures
  • Build quality backlinks
  • Remove past links to prevent penalization

This tutorial is pretty detailed so let’s just get into it!

GSA Search Engine Ranker Interface

First let’s look at the interface before we get into the nitty gritty stuff.

On your main GSA Search Engine Ranker panel, you can see your list of projects created, tools, colour coded verified links and a real time log with statistics.

GSA Search Engine Ranker interface

The stats along the bottom tell you-

  • How many submitted links there are and which ones submitted today
  • The amount of active proxies
  • Number of verified links from today
  • How many submitted links a minute
  • How many solved captchas
  • Memory & CPU usage

If you ever need a reminder of what they mean, hover over with your mouse for an explanation to pop up.

To see more options, right click the project and you have lots of things to change here such as status, priority, type of active mode and modifying the project.

GSA SER options panel

Show URLs will allow you to look at both submitted and verified links which you can export or look at more specific statistics about them in charts and graphs.

You can even sort them out by engine, internal/external, follow or no follow and link type.

Remember, a submitted link is one that has not been verified if it is live and a verified link is one that is submitted and currently live.

Other project options include making changes in bulk and importing target URLs. You can import your own URLs that you’ve scraped or you can import from a site list.

GSA Search Engine Ranker Settings

On top of the last verified URL list, there is an option button to change the settings for your project. The setting options you have are thread count, proxies, and various other things.

GSA Search Engine Ranker options

The thread count defaults at 50 which is fine unless you have a more powerful computer. Mine is quad core with 16 gigs of rams so I can set it up to 250 threads.

If you don’t, 50 will work just fine.

Make sure you have checked the box to use proxies and GSA SER will scrape public proxies for you. Set it to search for new ones every 60 minutes if there are less than one hundred active.

Test all of them and take out the failed proxies if they’re older than a few hours.

gsa proxy settings

The problem with public proxies is that they aren’t 100% reliable and you normally receive a high failure rate which ends up wasting your time.

If you spend a few dollars on Buyproxies and buy semi-dedicated proxies, the success rate is much greater and is really worth your money.

To input your own proxy list, click Add proxy, import them from clipboard and set them to private. After you add them, go back to settings and decide which proxies to use, private or public and when.

I use my private proxies for search engines, PR checking and submissions.

Captcha Solving

Although GSA can support a large range of captcha solving services, there are two types that you really need to know.

captcha solving

The first is a software based solution such as GSA Captcha Breaker. It will try to automatically solve them for you which saves on human based captcha services.

The second one is a human based solver like Death By Captcha and these are really cheap, around $1.39 for a thousand solves.

The best way to set it up is to select a software based service as your primary and then a human based as your secondary.

That way your primary will help reduce the captcha costs and your secondary can pick up any failed ones and is much cheaper.

captcha service setup

To set it up click Add and select the services of your choice. Test to check your balance, set up your retry limit and the rest of the options.

If you don’t want GSA to ask you when solves aren’t successful, untick the box that says to ask the user if everything else fails.

GSA Search Engine Ranker will automatically ping all the backlinks it makes but you can integrate them into the supported indexing services if you want.

Although some people like using the indexer services, I don’t believe they’re really all that necessary. Instead you can build more links to them with GSA SER but if you’ve got them and want to use them, then feel free to integrate them.

indexing services

Some of the indexers are GSA SEO indexer, Linklicious, Nuclear Link Indexer, Link Pipeline, Lindexed and Back Links Indexer. Just select the ones you want and enter the API key for each one.

Another option is the filter which allows you to skip submissions if the URL if appearing in your blacklist. You can leave all these at defaults.

Advanced – Site Lists

Sites lists allow you to keep a log of different types of links GSA Search Engine Ranker discovers and submits to.

You can then reuse these lists in other projects to speed up the overall submission process.

There are 4 types of site lists-

  1. Identified sites to post to
  2. Sites that have been successfully posted to
  3. Successfully submitted and verified links
  4. Failed links

site lists setup

I recommend keeping a record of successful and verified submissions so you can use them later on in future projects.

One of the options for a new project is to import target URLS and you can do that from a previous site list.

After a few months of using GSA Search Engine Ranker, you’ll end up having a huge site list of verified and successful links that you can save and import quickly in various projects. So tick verified and successful to save these two lists.

Starting Your Project

When you’re done setting everything up and all the options are how you want them, click Start to get your project going.

As soon as you do that, GSA Search Engine Ranker will start going out and finding targets and submitting and verifying links.

starting your campaign

During the process, you might get pop ups from GSA that needs you to answer random questions. To prevent these pop ups which can get annoying, hit Stop and double click the project.

Select Options tab and you’ll see a line that says if a form can’t be filled to Ask User or Choose Random. To stop pop ups, change it to Random.

fix popups

You’ll have to change this for every project so remember to do that before you start a new one!

So that is an overview of the GSA interface and the specific features and options it has.

Now let’s look at a sample project!

Sample GSA Search Engine Ranker Project – Quick Tour

I’m going to show you around a sample project quickly so you get an idea of how everything fits together.

Then we are going to create a project together :)

The left side column is a list of links to where you want to submit to such as:

  • Blog comment
  • Directory
  • Forum
  • Image Comment
  • Pingback
  • Social Bookmark
  • Social Network
  • Video
  • Web 2.0
  • Wiki

gsa ser sample campaign options

Compared to SENuke XCR, this list may not look like a lot. Even when you click on the plus, you’ll see all the options underneath but it still doesn’t look like there’s many places GSA Search Engine Ranker posts to.

This is because all of these are platforms used by thousands of different sites. WordPress for example is a widely used platform so if you choose WordPress article, GSA Search Engine Ranker will post to all sites using that platform which is in thousands.

Don’t be fooled by your first impression, there’s endless supplies of sites to post to behind the scenes!

platforms list

In the main window you have to input all the data for your campaign. The options panel gives you great control over how links are built which has gotten a lot better in recent times.

So now you know what you are looking for let me take you through creating your first project.

Creating Your First Project

To start a new project, click New and a new project will pop up. First you have to choose which link types to use which will depend on the type of campaign your running.

A good rule to stand by is that if you’re making your money site central to your link building structure, you have to use high quality contextual links which are links surrounded by relevant content.

new project

We can tick some of these options here such as Article, Wikis, Web 2.0’s, and Social networks. I’m going to leave it fairly simple for this example.

After you’ve selected your link types, you can start on the rest of the settings.

  1. Enter URL
  2. Enter keywords
  3. Fill in anchor text

new project settings

You can enter multiple URLs which GSA Search Engine Ranker will just rotate through at random and make variations of capital and lower case letters.

For keywords, there is the option to collect more from target sites and to use those collected words to find new target sites.

The anchor text should be based on your main keywords and must be in spintax format.

Your keywords (used to find sites to submit links to) can be the same as your anchor text if you want, just tick the box that says use keywords as anchor text.

Create A Natural Looking Link Profile

Now the next few options are important for building a natural looking profile in GSA Search Engine Ranker so you reduce the risk of being penalized by Google Penguin.

Please see the main tutorial video if you get confused here.

gsa SEO software options

Partial match: A partial match is one that includes the main keyword with something else. I really recommend keeping a list of partial anchor text.

Branding anchor text: Some examples of branded anchor text for my blog, matthewwoodward.co.uk would be Matthew Woodward, Matthewwoodward and Matthewwoodward.co.uk.

LSI anchor text: Use scrapebox or Google wonderwheel to get some new words and paste that into here.

Generic anchor text: words like “click here” or “see more”.

Citation: Creates a naked URL of your site which makes your profile look much more natural.

Anchor text variation: varies the uppercase and lowercase letters of anchor text

Combined, these settings will help you build a very natural looking profile.

Kontent Machine About Me Profile

For your About Me, you either drop in a default profile or use Kontent Machine to generate several about me’s.

For the log in and passwords just tick the randomization box and GSA Search Engine Ranker will generate them for you. Enter the website title, categories, either suggested or root, forum comment and a description.

I keep my descriptions the same as the 250 description and leave the forum comment at default. Forum nickname and forum password will be randomized if the box is ticked.

Don’t forget to properly spin any content with my Best Spinner tutorial before adding to your campaign.

Even More GSA SER Options!

Don’t think we’re done yet! Under the options tab, we have even more stuff to fill out.

gsa project advanced options

The options you have are:

  1. Choose to pause your project after a certain amount of submissions or verified links a day
  2. Leave the verified link options at default and tick the box to send verified link to indexer services.
  3. Do not tick the box to use character spinning!
  4. Choose to randomly have spelling mistakes or typos

To avoid pop ups like before, remember we have to select the box to randomly choose a selection. Have all services fill captchas if you set up captcha solving services.

To use tags, you have a choice between keywords or anchor text.

scrape targets options

To tell GSA Search Engine Ranker how to get target URLs, you’ll need to tell it where to look.

First, pick the search engines. Right click to search by country which I usually do and this will depend on your target audience and language so I’m going to pick UK and United states.

I also like to use keywords to find target sites. Even though it comes back with less, the results are usually more accurate and relevant which is what you want when building links.

Quality over quantity!

gsa search engine settings

Tick the box to use URLs from your global sites list if you have one and you can also choose to analyze and post to competitor’s backlinks.

This option will try to replicate the backlinks for sites that rank for your target keywords. It’s not perfect but you are able to get some substantial value from it.

It doesn’t differentiate between good links and spam links so the risk is if the link profile is pretty spammy, then GSA SER will try to grab those links for your own as well.

GSA Search Engine Ranker posting schedule

GSA Search Engine Ranker allows lets you set up a posting schedule so you don’t get banned if you’re building multiple links from the same site. Try to space it out so your links don’t get deleted or anything like that.

I don’t normally use it but it can be handy.

GSA SER target url filter

Under the Filter URLs tab, it’s important to set these options up.

  • Skip sites with more than X amount of outgoing links on one page. Normally, sites have about 125 links so you can safely increase this to 100
  • Skip sites with a PR of X
  • Types of backlinks to create
  • Skip sites that have bad words, from different countries or languages and the following words in the URL or domain

Consider creating multiple projects to get a variation of PRs to look more natural. Try to skip sites with a PR less than 0 and unknown PR.

Email Verification

There’s three types of email addresses that we can use.

  1. Disposable
  2. Web mail based
  3. Self hosted

Disposable sites are widely available but many sites will block those so you’ll end up with a high failure rate.

Webmail based emails don’t fail as much but there are still some sites out there that block web mail based accounts.

Self hosted email is something like [email protected] but using a gmail or hotmail account will be fine for most. You can take the time to make your own or buy a bunch on Fiverr.

email settings

Enter your email of choice and at the bottom are several more options to choose from. I want to wait fifteen minutes between two different log ins but the rest is left at default.

Make sure you test this!

If anything doesn’t work here, your campaign is in danger of failing as it’s running.

Article Manager

Now let’s choose some articles to add but make sure you spend time creating quality content to use in your link building.

If you don’t know how, I suggest you check out my advanced spinning tutorial because you need have to have some high quality hand spun content.

article manager

If you already have articles ready, just click Add and paste your content directly into there with a title. It’ll grab the first paragraph automatically to use as the summary.

Once that’s ready, you can preview it, complete with links and all.

Repeat the same steps to add a second article. Easy as that!

On the bottom are some more options for editing your articles in terms of links and such.

Inserting Links

You can either insert a link with a sentence at the bottom, a sentence in the article, or No link.

To be honest, these options don’t give you as much control since the link seems randomly placed. To make it look more natural, directly add your links when you are spinning the article.

insert link options

I talk about this in the spinning tutorial but you can do this with a tag in GSA Search Engine Ranker.

Next you can insert media randomly with GSA Search Engine Ranker and that saves you some time. One last thing I change on here is to not duplicate content anywhere instead of per account.

Click OK to finish your campaign setup and you’ll see it get added to the list!

Tiered Link Building

Setting up a tiered link building campaign is fairly easy and is similar to creating a new campaign. First we have to create a new campaign like we did before.

The one difference is to tick the box that says use verified URLs of another project (multi tier/link wheel). As soon as you select that box, a pop up will appear.

Choose your project, the money site.

tiered setup

Now your new campaign is going to build links to the campaign you chose earlier, tier 2 to tier 1.

To add another tier, repeat the steps to set up another project, tick the same box and pick the second tier.

Building tiered link structure is quite easy in GSA SER!

Removing Links

We all know that Google is constantly changing. What worked perfectly a year ago, may not work so well now. So you always need the ability to remove links you have built, just in case!

GSA Search Engine Ranker can help you clean your backlink profile as long as they were created by GSA SER which is extremely useful.

remove links

All you have to do is right click on the project, hover on status and click Active (remove links). GSA SER will go through and remove all the links created as it is running.

It can’t remove ones such as blog comments since there was no registration/account created but it can remove a large amount of them.

Integrating Kontent Machine

GSA Search Engine Ranker allows you to integrate with various services to help you set up campaigns quickly.

One of the best tools I like to use for this is Kontent Machine. Just follow my Kontent Machine tutorial to learn how to prepare your content.

Once you’ve finished preparing your content with Kontent Machine, there’s an option to build and export. Choose the GSA Search Engine Ranker template, select export and save it.

Kontent Machine GSA Export Tool

When it’s done saving, you can go back into GSA Search Engine Ranker to import the content.

Select Tools, import, data field, your file and fields you want to fill. Right away all of the data has been exported and filled in all of the boxes.

GSA Kontent Machine Import Tool

You could also use Kontent Machine to generate hundreds of articles to import into the article manager.

Wrapping It Up

The GSA Search Engine Ranker team has been constantly working and updating this tool in the last year and it’s miles ahead of what it used to be when it first came out.

They have come a long way in the past year to make it one of the most powerful and diverse link building tools on the market. It really is a crucial tool to have in your arsenal.

  7. Scott

I’ve been using GSA for about a year now, ( I have a few small niche sits) and have had fair to good results with it. The only thing I’ve not liked about it is that there has not been much in the way of how to use it correctly. Do it wrong and get the Google slap. Ouch! GSA is a powerful double edged razor sharp sword.

Thanks for the great tutorial video. My setup is GSA, Captha Breaker, GSA Indexer and WickedArticleCreator (instead of Kontent Machine).

Matt, do you think I should go and get KM? It looks like I can do about the same thing with WAC.

Also, do you think I should not be using the indexer? I don’t see an indexer of any sort in your list. Thanks so much for this great tutorial. This is a game changer for me and I only had to wait a year for it. LOL

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 9th, 2014 at 11:11 pm

      Hi Scott,

I plan to fill that gap – this is more of a general overview/how to use it. I will publish solid case studies but they take time to prepare and put together & my focus is the $100 case study at the moment.

When I was looking for content generators I found WAC to be awkward to use and it took a while to get what I wanted done. That was a while ago so it might have changed but check out the more detailed tutorial at https://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/reviews/kontent-machine-review-generate-unlimited-unique-content/

I don’t use indexers, just build out a tiered structure and it takes care of that

  8. Paula

Many thanks for incredible contest you just created. Honestly, I still couldn’t afford to buy GSA right now. But, after I got this contest email, it feels like finding out oasis in Sahara. Happy New Year to you, Matt!

Then you better enter the competition :)

  11. Mart Shark

Kudos for the giveaway, but how about some less black-hattish software? The SEO world is changing and if you’re not building churn and burn type sites, my feeling is that automating links like this is becoming higher and higher risk.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 9th, 2014 at 10:57 pm

You are right in what you say – SEO is just risk management. But there is a smart way and stupid way to go about it.

I don’t buy into the automated software causes penalty arguments. Granted it can help lead to them, but they only do what humans tell them to do.

For example if I had bricks and mortar I couldn’t build a wall, but someone else could build a castle.

  12. angello

HAHAHA, I´m winning this one, sorry for all of you guys

  13. Shorya

    Hey Mathew,

Again a great video and awesome explanation, as always. I need to ask you one thing , is gsa search engine ranker is good for using tier 1 link on money site? Please let me know about this, as this is really confusing me.

One thing i request you if you can do, i am sure many beginner GSA users will want this- Can please share what settings we can do for each tier in 3 tier linking process..

please let me know about this.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 9th, 2014 at 10:55 pm

Ahhh – as soon as its ready. Takes a while to build out/collect data then consolidate into something useful. I would say 2-3 months.

  16. Bashoo Zmmarraii

I already own it :) hahaha though entered the competition i hope to win and donate the license to somebody ;)

        January 11th, 2014 at 8:42 am

Hey mat i have confusion about it

i am using for bombing it on tier 1

how about i start using it directly on my site cause my tier 1 is ranking on second page :D for my keyword lol and my money site is not even in first 500+ i guess i would directly bomb my site with gsa what do you think ?

        • Matthew Woodward
          January 17th, 2014 at 12:09 pm

  23. Munir Nathoo

Honestly, you do a better job on software tutorials then most of the developers do for their own software!

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive overview of GSA Ser!

Just a quick Q: Do you build your 2nd tier links, simultaneously, immediately after or after a few days of building your 1st tier?

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 10th, 2014 at 11:59 am

      Hi Munir,

Haha yeah I know that – that is part of my value proposition to them :)

Immediately – I set everything up all at the same time.

  26. Shayandeep Chakraborty

I already own GSA but only got Google slaps till now. D***! Well, there is a learning curve and it will take time for me to get everything.

I admit that GSA is an extremely powerful tool which could easily kill your site if you get it even slightly wrong. This video is indeed very good.

Matthew, I always follow your posts. They are filled with tons of value! Great Going…:)

  31. Will McDonald

As always Mr. Woodward, the best tutorials in IM hands down…

I can’t believe the GSA guys still charge $99 use 1 time fee. The guy is crazy.

Quick question – Why are you into Social bookmarks, You use them in your UD tuts as well. Have you cross tested this and actually noticed difference if you leave them out vs include them. I’m just trying to figure out the velocity I should be using of social bookmarks within my link building campaign.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 10th, 2014 at 11:56 am

I told the developer the same thing – I just emailed him your comment to tell him again :P

Even at $97 a month this would be a bargain.

I haven’t done that test no sorry =\

  32. Leo @Newbiesup

I am going to get one ;)

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 10th, 2014 at 11:54 am

      Good luck Leo!

  33. Will McDonald

    Another Q

Any way to limit MAX subs the way you would with Senuke or UD, If you forget to shut down or swap content, GSA will continue building links even if your content has lost its uniqueness (like leavin the oven on)

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 10th, 2014 at 11:54 am

Yes that is covered in the tutorial :)

  40. Clark

Bought scrapebox but no cash for GSA :(. This would be great belated new year gift >.<".

Thanks for the great give away Matthew.

Just one question have you evever tested earning thought google adAdsense with blogs? If yes how was it? If no why not?

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 12:27 pm

Then I wish you good luck :)

I would prefer to push people onto my list rather than through an adsense click.

    • garratt
      January 18th, 2014 at 6:19 am

In other words, Adsense makes you very little money. You could have adsense and earn a few bucks per click. Or you could have a product /w optin form and earn $39 per click + email address to follow up with upsells and more products later down the line.

      • Matthew Woodward
        January 19th, 2014 at 9:03 pm

  42. Simon

    Hi Matt

Do you think GSA is better than UD now in terms of it be a One stop shop for tier link building?

i know UD is your fav piece of link software but which would you choose now if you could have but one and why?

    Cheers matey!

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 12:20 pm

If I was on a desert island and could only pick 1? It would probably be GSA

  43. Simon

One other question re: proxies….how much do you spend per month. Will $10 do it for 1 entire project or Many projects?

  44. eric

    Hey Matt,

Your an a******! You made me finally join Twitter.

  47. Daniela Flores

      January 17th, 2014 at 12:03 pm

      Thanks for your kind words!

  48. jespana

I have been using GSA with UD but it seems like I may not need to use UD anymore. My question to you Matt is do we still use the same concept from your tier link building videos but just use GSA now? I have created hand made Web2.0 in the past and used your method to rank very well. I was going to do the same this round and post to the same handmade Web2.0 as they are still alive after 1 year because I only post medium to good content. I keep the best content for my personal websites and will be working on a few more videos soon.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 12:02 pm

Yes you can apply the theory from those videos with any tool you like. You should also take a look at jacobs post I linked to on the subject

  49. Justin

    Hi Matthew!

Great video! I like how you respond to each and every comment :). I was wondering if we should only use our scraped site list with gsa? in other tutorial u said using scrapebox to get your own list is a must, and yet this video mentions very little about making your own lists. should i use gsa defaults? thanks!

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 12:02 pm

      Hi Justin,

Yeah responding is slowly killing me and takes hours of each day – I need to find a more streamlined solution as its costing time against content production. You should see how many emails I have get every day o_O

      You can use both :)

  50. Phanindra

That’s an excellent giveaway Matt :)

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 11:58 am

Good luck with your entry Phanindra!

  51. ahardinweb

Hey Matt, as always, great tutorial. Interesting the shift in perception of GSA only being useful for lower tiers. While that may have been true in its early days, you are right, its continual updates have paid off as it now has even powerful features (some I hadn’t realized til your tut). Do you think the new version of Xrumer will have a similar shift in perception and use?

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 11:58 am

Xrumer will always be a tool for the technical elite – GSA will suit most people, xrumer is only needed when you need to go from thousands of links to million of links.

  52. Danny Jones

I’m in :) thanks for the comp Matt!

  55. Ivaylo

    Hi, Matthew

Great tutorial again! It was extremely valuable for me. I have a question, that wasn’t addressed in the video if I’m correct.

I’ve been using Licorne for Tier 1 up to now. The main reason being that GSA SER wasn’t good at applying the filters based on OBL and PR. (meaning that it used to submit links to sites with higher OBL count and/or lower pr than specified) Has that changed?

After this tutorial, I’m considering ditching Licorne all together and building all my links with GSA SER. It seems like much more mature program to me.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 11:55 am

Yes they have got much better with those elements of control.

  56. Justin

    Hi Matt!

I love your videos!! especially this one. I have a question regarding GSA and scraping your list. In your other videos you stress the importance of scraping your own list, yet this one mentions very little of it. Should I be using only my list? or use a combination of both gsa list and the ones i have scraped myself. Thanks!!

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 11:54 am

Part of what GSA does is go out and scrape targets for you. You can also import your own scraped list from scrapebox which I recommend as it speeds up the end to end process in GSA.

  57. Many

Been waiting on this video! thanks matt!

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 11:53 am

      Hope it helped you out!

  58. Jacob Suhr

    Hi Matthew

Thanks for leading us by the hand through this tool. It’s a bit of a daunting task to get familiar with it. I had a trial of GSA SER just sitting at my desktop half a year ago. It just sat there. Your tutorials provide me and others like me (read: procrastinating “If-I-get-THIS-Tool-I-wont-have-to-work-as-hard” kind of guys) a means of circumventing the worst excuses for not making a dime online. That and it’s a great help in showing us how to avoid s******* things up by reminding of details such as foot prints.

I was wondering if you would advice on having this tool running on a fps or your own pc or on a vps? I have an old geezer of a pc (seven years old IBM Thinkpad) and a newish Mac. I would rather get GSA Ser and a cheap but reliable vps, rather than a new pc. What would you think is the best set up? And have you even got a recommendation for this procrastinating im’er?

    Thanks in advance

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 11:52 am

      No worrys :)

A VPS from https://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/get/poweruphosting/ will do the trick just fine.

In terms of advice to get you to pull your finger out? Well you either want it or you dont – https://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/tips/successful-people-vs-unsuccessful-people-which-one-are-you/

I want to run GSA SER and GSA Captcha Breaker on a VPS.

Which VPS package should I get? Windows SSD One ($15 per month) OR Windows SSD Two ($30 per month). Thanks.

        • Matthew Woodward
          March 18th, 2016 at 1:00 pm

Honestly there are so many variables that go into that (like how many campaigns/threads you run) that its difficult to give an accurate answer.

So its better to start with the cheapest one, and if you find its struggling (Captcha Breaker is CPU heavy) then it only takes a support ticket for them to upgrade you. Equally you don’t want to be paying for the higher plan if the lower plan does the trick.

    • garratt
      January 18th, 2014 at 8:34 am

PC’s are pretty cheap, like you can pretty much buy a brand new one for about $300-400 (in US, newegg etc), and considering you’re going to pay $50+ per month on a VPS might be worth the investment. or it may be too much hassle than it’s worth depending on what you prefer.

      • Matthew Woodward
        January 18th, 2014 at 12:27 pm

          January 20th, 2014 at 12:05 pm

Matthew – how about negotiating a really, really good discount on GSA ser for all of us? Would that be something you could set up and still earn affiliate commissions?

          • Matthew Woodward
            January 24th, 2014 at 9:01 am

I might have something lined up ;)

      • Jacob Suhr
        January 20th, 2014 at 11:57 am

        Hey Garrat

Many thanks for your feedback. I am currently residing in Denmark, where electronics are significantly more expensive, compared to e.g. the US. The same goes for the prices of IM-tools where the 25% vat hurts the wallet a little more than most other places.

But you are absolutely right about a vps being a short term investment compared to a new pc. So thanks for the advice, it got me thinking.

        Best regards

  59. Pawan

Seems a very good competition here, I was looking for this software. Hope ot win.

    Hi Matt,

    Hope you are doing well.

Appreciate for your efforts you put on your website & like the way you teach by your Tutorials. Talking about GSA, personally I like SER & already have a copy of it which I purchased before a month ago.

There are many people in this competition to win but this competition matter me a lot as I really want to win this Competition for my younger brother.

I heartily yearn to win & get GSA SER for my brother. I hope my wish will come true, surely.

    Best Regards,

  62. Graham

If I do not win the competition I definately think I need to buy GSA SER to start ranking my e-commerce site.

I have already started building tier 1 Links including some web2.0, Youtube channel, Linkedin profile, articles etc… For tier 2 can I send links to my Linkedin, youtube, and articles to pass on the linkjuice or is this not worth it?

    • Matthew Woodward

Not sure what you mean about half the price???

    Hi Matt!

Great video on gsa! I was wondering if I should use scrapebox to scrape my sites and import them to gsa and not use the default gsa list. or should i use both? I tried commenting before but it was never posted. Do they await for your consideration?

    Thanks again.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 17th, 2014 at 11:11 am

      Do both :)

Set up a scraping project with scrapebox and then import the target list.

I could update the post with gsa footprints if you like?

Comments are moderated and I’ve been a way for a few days at affiliate summit sorry

I would love gsa footprints =)

“Yeah responding is slowly killing me and takes hours of each day – I need to find a more streamlined solution as its costing time against content production. You should see how many emails I have get every day o_O”

I think that is part of the reason why you’re so successful is because you connect with your followers on a personal level. Most “gurus” don’t have time for it. But I do agree with what you’re saying. It holds you back from bringing us more quality content!

But as a follower I really do appreciate you responding back to all your commenters!!

            Hi Matt,

I’ve taken a look into extracting gsa footprints myself but i’m running into a dilemma for i’m not sure how footprints truely work. Should I be extracting ALL of gsa footprints from every module and combining them into one file so scrapebox can use it. OR should I be Only extracting the modules I will be using for that time/tier.

            For example:

Tier 1: I will be using Article Wiki and Web2
            Tier 2: I will be adding Bookmarks, Directories,Comments, Guestbooks,Image comments,Trackbacks.

Should I just get only tier 1 footprints then scrape, then go back and get tier 2 footprints and scrape? Or Is it possible for me to scrape all of them together at one time. Thanks!!!

I believe that you can import a master list into a project, and then it will respect the settings of that project. I think.

I want to share a little tip about choosing contextual fast.

We should to do step by step this
    -Right click To platform box
    – Click ” Check All ”
    – Again Right click
    – Uncheck engines use no contextual link
And than again right click Save these setting under the Load/Save menu.

  73. Will

    1. Is 1 email per campaign, should I be using multiple emails with multiple extensions @hotmail, @mydomain, @gmail. Also, using 1 email when your building links to multiple sites won’t leave a footprint?

    2. Drip feed 10 verified links per day, up to 300 total per article (hand spun, 3x sentences, via your video) cool for my money site page?

    3. I’m thinking manually spun content for tier 1 AND tier 2, then tier 3 using KM3, what you think. OR do you think I can use KM3 content for my tier 2? Is using manually spun for tier 2 a waste of resources? This is a conservative money site with many hours invested.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 23rd, 2014 at 10:00 am

      1) Yes that will be fine, 1 per campaign is good to go.

      2) Don’t forget 10 verified links, might actually end up with more. It might submit 100, then check the first 10 to find them live and stop. But some of the remaining 90 could be live.

      3) Then I would take a stance of risk vs cost and work out the best route. Really the cost of content is low so ^^

  74. pb

Hey Matthew..thanks for such an informative video..

Have you seen any success building Tier 1 links? I know you show that in the video and advise caution.

How long does it take to see results.

Is it safer to use it with an older site that is 1-2 years old than with a new one?

O ya one thing not sure about..are all the sites under the different categories already within the tool…can we add other sites manually? or does that list get updated?

    Too many questions, sorry…

well I’m a newbie with all this so not quite sure if its on the up and up..some people advise against using such tools..

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 24th, 2014 at 8:54 am

Well any link you build your site is a tier 1 link – and we have all seen success building tier 1 links.

How long it takes for results is an impossible question to answer, but its probably about the same length as a piece of string.

GSA doesn’t work off ‘sites’ it works off ‘platforms’ – each platform is used by thousands and thousands of sites.

      • pb
        January 28th, 2014 at 12:11 pm

Thanks Matthew..another question I meant to ask is how much processing overhead is needed..does your computer need to be on all the time GSA works? Or does it work off the web on its own once you launch a campaign.

Not sure about the price — is it 100 or 297? Seen both prices advertised :)

As always, Excellent Tut Matt –

I need to ask you something about the theory behind Tiered Link Building.

Given that most of these sites are heavily spammed with poor content, MOST of the sites will drop off the map, either by being abandoned by the webmaster or being heavily deindexed by google to the point where your link won’t add value to your site.

The sites with high PR that won’t drop off the map will have more sophisticated anti spam measures. I’m guessing they can figure out when you have links pointing to only 1 site, regardless of how well spun your content is, they should figure out what your doing (some wont, but majority should be able to).

I know SEO is essentially short term cat and mouse game with Google. But this all just seems very short term thinking, which is fine for an affiliate site or a burner site. But for auth site, I’m trying to determine if its worth the time.

Would love to hear your thoughts or comments from anyone on this. How many of your links from GSA or UD still exist 1+ years later.

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 23rd, 2014 at 10:28 pm

Its a tricky question with a lot of variables. But really you should be looking to own as much as your first tier as possible which mitigates all issues.

The more authority you can control in that manner the better – but I know your already well on your way to that :)

  77. Mike

            Ok here it goes again:

When putting in your keywords in the right place of the article it should make sense right.

You advise to use generic, branding etc. keywords with the GSA anchor tag.

But doing so sentences would for example begin with: MatthewWoodward.co.uk is a short term loan blabla….. so that clearly doesnt make any sense.

How would you deal with this but still make sure anchors are diversified?

    Hi Matthew,

I was following your blog fro a while now especially the GSA threads.

My biggest problem is that i don`t know how to use GSA to rank new websites. The software it`s so powerful but when it comes to ranking websites it`s about quality not quantity as you know.

I see people which ranked brand new sites sometimes in as short as one week using only GSA so i want to learn something similar.

My questions for you are those :

    1. Can I use the info provided in this tutorial to rank a brand new site ?

    2. Apart of this guide do you have any other tutorials of ranking websites with GSA which works now ?

    Please let me know

    Thanks in advance,

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 2nd, 2014 at 7:27 pm

      1) Yes

      2) No sorry :(

Just don’t get ahead of yourself and start link building before you’ve built a site that actually deserves to rank.

  81. Jack

    Nice information.

Matt for a new guy trying to rank niche sites, with all the time in the world.

Do you recommend tiered link building/GSA/all the other stuff?

Hi Matthew, between GSA and Ultimate Demon which one do you think is better? is there any difference between the two? I saw you give Ultimate Demon a very high rating yet you’re using GSA for your tiered link building videos. After watching this tutorial, at last, I have bought GSA using your aff link. It was really helpful in-depth tutorial I have ever seen so far.
Can I use Kontetmachine generated T1 articles with GSA for my first tire back linking? I am a bit skeptical about machine generated articles for T1 after penguin updates.

Kontentmachine or Wicked article generator which one is better for T1 purpose? Can you kindly suggest? Better if you make a comparative study.

Yeah you can – that depends on the goal of your SEO campaign though. You can do anything you want, its just a matter of managing risk/reward.

  97. Jonathan

    Thanks Matt,

Yet another purchase for you. I will now try this out on a couple of websites I have waiting to get some back links….

Will try a couple of methods; one using your demonstration, so that GSA builds all tiered links and another where GSA links to manually made tier 1 links that I have control of.

Will see how how it works out over the next few months.

In your video, I noticed that you have added 50 proxies – does that mean you are using the 50 semi-dedicated proxy service?

    Thanks Jonathan

        HI Matt,

I am trying to put together my first attempt at using GSA to create Tier 2 links (Tier 1’s have been manually created), but have issues with the placement of the links.

I have raised the issue in the forum, see if anyone can help.

        • Matthew Woodward
          February 18th, 2014 at 8:46 am

Just spin the content yourself and place them

          • JonathanH
            February 18th, 2014 at 9:26 pm

Ended up just putting the macro instruction at the end of the article, can’t seem to get it to work in the actual article – I end up with a an entire spun text in the preview output!

As these are going to be going to the Tier 1 links anyway, does it matter that I have chosen to have a random sentence at the bottom of the article or ‘No Link’ with the UR macro at the bottom of the article?

Seems OK with a random sentence, would not want to point this directly to money sites.

            thanks for the reply though.

          • Matthew Woodward
            February 19th, 2014 at 8:09 am

Well you should be inputting raw HTML into the article not any macro code.

I would try and avoid using it in the way you have it setup. Having the link coming from the same place in the article over and over highly reduces how unique it is.

          • JonathanH
            February 19th, 2014 at 9:28 pm

Thanks for the quick reply, secondly in your example of the best spinner your use a single URL, yet I want to point the articles to 6 different URLS and with different anchor text.

The paragraphs really would not make any sense when using all the anchor text and I don’t quite get how you could put raw HTML code into the article to incorporate all of the URLS and all of the variations of the anchor texts?

I have been using it one one project for a day so far, and the issues apart from the above are:

ZERO links verified, they all seem to be getting deleted – frustrating!!!!!

The Proxies that I bought keep on getting removed by GSA and replaced by GSA own ones that they find – which are next to useless – arrrh!

As I am trying to send ‘links’ to only tier 1, would it would be worth just ticking all of the channels and sending as many as I can?

          • Matthew Woodward
            February 20th, 2014 at 9:25 am

I would still keep quality at a med-high level on tier 2

          • Matthew Woodward
            February 20th, 2014 at 9:24 am

I would write separate paragraphs for each of the 6 URLS (spun at sentence and word level) and then just spun all of those 6 paragraphs against each other.

Just go into your proxy settings and untick the box about automatically searching for new proxies.

Your other issues, speak with Sven – doesn’t sound tyypical. But link verifications take a long time – I have a project that started on Sunday morning that is so far at 811 submitted / 586 verified.

          • JonathanH
            February 20th, 2014 at 5:29 pm

After thinking about it, that is the way I would have then completed it in the future – agree.

Ticked that box – problems solved.

That ratio is far better than mine! At present 276/23 verified and project 2 212 submitted/39 verified. Am guessing the issue would be around links perhaps?

Suggest Kontent Machine to generate content for the lower tiers – I am guessing you would suggest this also!

Do you run GSA on a separate machine – I haven’t noticed any speed issues with PC having 100 threads open, 10 proxies at the moment.

          • Matthew Woodward
            February 24th, 2014 at 9:44 am

Yeah I keep everything seperate from the main machine, theres a couple reasons-

Viruses – when your PC is loading thousands of webpages in the background all day every day, its easy to get stung!

Performance – While GSA doesn’t slow things down under normal usage. When I’m recording videos, editing/exporting etc it cripples it

Security – I run my main machine through an encrypted VPN which would slow down GSA considerably

    Hi Mathew,

Just curious about your opinion on GSA vs SENuke or similar tool? This is a great price for GSA compared to SeNuke and I am not trying to dissuade anyone form buying GSA. However I already own a lifetime license for SeNuke so I am just curious if you feel GSA offers any additional tools that may be useful for someone who already owns another link building tool like SeNuke? I’m trying to decide if I should purchase GSA as well. Thanks.

Great sir name BTW! I am here in the States but perhaps we are distant relatives.

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 7th, 2014 at 11:09 am

They are no comparable tools by any means, I think you need to learn a bit more about GSA to see why it makes SENuke look like childs play.

Right now it’s 8:54pm and I am want to get the discount and when I click on the link it says it’s $99, today is Feb. 6th and I thought I had until at least midnight when it becomes the Feb. 7th? Can you explain? I would like to order this now if possible.

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 7th, 2014 at 11:01 am

The discount expired on the 6th, which means any time from 00:00-23:59 on the 6th.

  100. Marc

I just left a comment and I saw the comment and I refreshed the screen and the comment is gone. I live in NY EST and it is 9:10 pm and went to click on the $30 discount for GSR SER and it says $99 and it is still Feb. 6th. Can you explain what is going on?

The discount was setup to auto expire on the 6th sorry.

  104. elkay

    Hey Matthew,

Nice in depth tutorial and great discount too.
Just wanted to buy.. but its showing 99.

Your discount message at the top says expires 7th feb.
But its already gone few hours back.. Any chance of getting that big discount again.. may be for 1 more day.. :)

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 7th, 2014 at 10:58 am

It said it will expire ON the 6th, which it did automatically at midnight.

      Please see-

“Once the discount expires it is gone forever – that is a legit promise. The discount will not be honoured after the 6th – you have been warned.”

Multiple emails went out about this

      • Gordie
        February 9th, 2014 at 3:16 pm

I guess they don’t understand marketing. Gone forever I highly doubt any marketer would believe that. As soon as the popularity has fallen it will be back at the same discounted price you sucked them in with. I really don’t like that practice by the way.

        • Matthew Woodward
          February 10th, 2014 at 11:26 am

It will never be sold at that price again. Don’t be surprised if the price goes up

  105. Marc

Matt, I tried to order from the link and it did not give me the discount. You never mentioned Feb. 6th being UK time you only mentioned the discount would not be available after Feb. 6th. I am from NY and it was Feb 6 and it was after 9pm as I put in the comment. I would like you to honor this since I was playing by your rules, you should have mentioned that the clock was on UK time and it would have been more clear. I feel deceived since it was not made clear. I would hope your are honest and would work with me. All I ask for is fairness, nothing more nothing less.

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 8th, 2014 at 9:49 am

This is a uk website, with a uk domain which is also highlighted in the logo. There was no slight on my part, you missed that, a number of emails went out to remind you and the page was very clear-

“Once the discount expires it is gone forever – that is a legit promise. The discount will not be honoured after the 6th – you have been warned.”

That was bolded, italiced and underlined.

The reasons behind that strict message is if you have been following the blog you will know its taken me over 6 months to negotiate this prize and discount.

The terms around it were VERY strict and I have absolutely no control over the discount at all. It’s not like I can just ‘turn it back on’

It is what it is, nothing I can do. Next time there is a discount, the same rules will apply.

The fair thing to do is apply the same rules to everyone, which I’m doing.

  106. Munir Nathoo

Wow! Am I glad I got it the instant I got your email Matthew! Looking at the comments above, I think for you to negotiate and keep a hold on that price for that long for a product that was even yours is commendable!

I have not seen and do not think I will ever see GSA Ser being offered at this price again!

You must have some real clout with the boys at GSA! LoL!

      February 8th, 2014 at 9:46 am

Well people just don’t believe it when you say, when its gone it is gone.

Actually I don’t have any clout – I just annoyed the h*** out of them for 6 months until they said yes :)

I actually think it should be priced at $97 per month for new customers rather than a one time payment.

  107. Phanindra

    Hi Matthew,

I have bought Google SER using your discount link. Thanks for that. Also, can you please clarify 1 point. If I start some campaign and in case of any power failure/system crash kind of issues, can we pause it ? And my system has 4 GB RAM so roughly what might be the feasible no. of threads ?

You have great articles, Matthew and I do follow them regularly.

Do you have any wordpress plugin which creates the PDF of the article or is it that you create it manually and set it with that plugin ?

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 8th, 2014 at 9:42 am

      Yes you can pause it.

In terms of threads that depends on things like CPU, proxies and bandwidth as well. Just start with 50 and see how it runs.

Yes you can pause and resume easily.

There are more to threads than just RAM, you also have to consider CPU, available bandwidth, proxies and more – it’s best just to start out at 100 and then tweak it as you go.

    Hi Matthew Woodward,
I just finished reading your blog post, wow, it’s amazing how after 1 short year (well, I guess it’s almost a year and half by now), you have accomplished what you have got so far.
I just picked up a lot of helpful tutorials, which I’m going to give them all a try. That’s also crazy how you have got so popular in the search engines
without much link-building tactics. Thanks for the helpful post !

Is this software can submit the top Article submission, Directory sites or top PR sites or I have to do that manually. I think some top sites need approval by their admin & it takes couple of days to post. Kindly clear me out.

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 19th, 2014 at 8:05 am

Yes it can submit to article directory and directory type sites – if they need admin approval, theres not much you can do about that.

  111. Subhojeet

I have some queries regarding GSA Search Engine Ranker. Is this mandatory to buy Proxies every month, because I have a dynamic IP Address & it’s cannot be changed. If I don’t buy Captcha beaker as well as Death by Captcha service, then for how many days can I run GSA Search Engine Ranker. And finally once a campaign will complete, all the active back links will stay on site live forever or I have to run again & again.

    • Matthew Woodward
      February 20th, 2014 at 9:28 am

Yes you will need proxies when doing any form of link building with software.

You can run GSA without a captcha solving service but it wont perform as well.

Given the cost of proxies is less than $10 a month and captchas are $1.39 – your probably best investing in yourself/business.

      • Subhojeet
        February 20th, 2014 at 10:19 am

There are tons of top Article submission sites as well as directory submission too & it takes some times for review. Will GSA can submit those back links. And can I get an idea about the no of back link sites that GSA can handle, because if I want to rank my site on top then how many days I have to wait or run my campaign through GSA. If I choose an Adult niche will GSA allow to run a campaign for that.

        • Matthew Woodward
          February 24th, 2014 at 9:46 am

Your questions are very broad but yes GSA can find and submit those links – how long that takes, depends on lots and lots of variables that are in your control.

      • Subhojeet

    Hi Matthew,

Great tutorial and manage to use GSA now. I get GSA through your link few days ago.

I received tons of emails requesting account confirmation. Will GSA activate/confirm the accounts automatically or I need to do it manually.

    • Matthew Woodward

GSA will do it automatically – you should be using a dedicated email address for it really

      • Kerh
        February 23rd, 2014 at 9:15 am

        Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your advice and have assigned dedicated email address for each tier. Since GSA will activate accounts automatically, is it okay for me to delete all the emails ?

When will GSA complete the submissions for a three tier project? Will it go on and on or need manual termination?

        • Matthew Woodward
          February 24th, 2014 at 9:27 am

In the email settings you can make it so GSA deletes them for you.

Yes it will keep running until you tell it otherwise

            Thanks Matthew,

I am now running a 3-Tiers campaign to my Tier-1 links (about 18 of them) that linking to my money site. When do you think is most appropriate to stop GSA so as to avoid over spamming.

          • Matthew Woodward
            February 25th, 2014 at 8:32 am

Just setup some of the limitations in options

  113. Kevin Marshall

I have watched your tiered link building series and I have a couple questions regarding Tier 1 links. You say to build Web 2.0s, article directories, and wiki links in the first tier. Is that still a safe strategy with Matt Cutts recent remarks about building article directory links?

I know it still works in Bing and Yahoo. I’m just asking about Google. I came across a recent post from Jacob King saying to only build high quality PR 2+ links to your money site now.

What’s the deal in 2014? Is it still safe to build web 2.0, article directory links, and wiki links to your money site if they aren’t at least PR 2+?

          February 26th, 2014 at 9:21 am

You should setup a couple of sites targeting low-med comp keywords and blast them – you’ll learn more getting them ranked/penalised than anything you will read.

  114. Ionut

The only thing stopping me from buying this are the absurd VAT taxes for EU buyers. Whitout coupons the total price for SER and CB is 219€(~285$). I see that you’re from the UK, how much did you pay for it.

    Dear Mattew,

I try to submit my main website to article directories, but they only were submitted, not verified is it normal ? If I understand correctly it takes a time that an administator posts that article, am I right ? How do you track backlinks from article directories after submitted ? P.S. sorry if I have mistakes, I’m from Ukraine.

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 4th, 2014 at 9:19 am

Yeah it needs manual approval so your going to have to sit tight. If it doesn’t read very well then it will probably be rejected

  121. Francisco

    Hi Matt,
Do you have any proof that using GSA works to rank a website?
Is a great tutorial to learn to use the tool, but does it get results?

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 6th, 2014 at 8:00 am

There is more to ranking a website than backlinks, but GSA will certainly help cover you on the backlink front.

  122. Ivaylo

    Hi, Matthew

After a short conversation with S4nt0s from BHW, it turns out that SER will make words from the submitted content to be links, as long as they match any of the anchor text variations that you’ve setup.

With this in mind, I want to ask you – why do you need to insert links during spinning? Isn’t it more natural to make sure you have the right words in your content and then let SER decide randomly which instance of the word to make a link each time?

I’ve always spun my links manually up to now, but S4nt0s claims that if you choose “no link” in the article manager, it will still make keywords in the content as links, which seems like a much better option to me. What do you think?

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 6th, 2014 at 8:50 pm

Your talking in the future tense. In the present including your links when spinning is necessary to look as natural as possible when using GSA.

Even if it does do it now, I also like to insert my own contextual links etc

  123. juniour

Hay Matthew i just purchased the gsa not to long ago and i believe it takes a while for the submitted links to be verified and live on the web but generally how many link should you think be submitted in a day in terms of drip feeding for a brand new site? maybe as long as you don’t blast them then you should be okay right? or is their a certain number of links per day?

    thanks in advance budz

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 10th, 2014 at 8:33 am

Hey, Matt! I have to say that this is by far the best GSA SER tutorial out there!

I decided to make myself some short notes on how to set up the campaign , so that I don’t have to watch the whole 1 hour tutorial every time I do it. I then thought to myself that probably I’m not the only one having this problem, so I decided to post it on my blog.

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 11th, 2014 at 8:52 am

Something doesn’t sound right, I would speak with GSA support

  126. Lindsay Collins @ Niche Grind

    Hey Matthew,

Love your site and videos. I’m buying GSA SER in the next few days. For Tier 1 I don’t really want to use anything spun which sucks because it’s a bit more costly. I planned to build 5 Web 2.0’s with 5 pages of original content on each Web 2.0. Also to manually submit to a few Article Sites and Wiki’s. Do you think this is being too careful?

My main question is: Can my money site get penalized by Google if I build too many Tier 2 links? Or does Tier one currently completely protect my money site, at least until Google gets smarter?

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 12th, 2014 at 8:40 am

The only safe thing to do is make sure you can delete/remove tier 1 links at will.

Then no matter what happens you are covered. GSA does have a remove links feature now as well.

  127. Tim

I think I have read from a one or more that they have been penalized for using GSA, so the theory that your “competitors” could spam your site and have you penalized seems to be true, and the back and forth goes on “how would google know”? They probably dont know or even care, google only sees your backlinks increasing in some type of un-natural way, then wham. If google can hold you liable for your backlinking efforts, then it seems just as likely google will hold you liable for what competitors do too…

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 17th, 2014 at 7:51 am

Building any type of link can get you penalised. GSA is a powerful tool, you can either use it to build or destroy.

  128. mike

I would like to thank you for the 57 minute instruction video on how to use GSA, but as a noob I am wondering how to write a good 250 description for bookmarks,

I assume its 250 characters and not words, so how would it go? would the bookmark start as a “how to” choose a good wedding caterer in sussex type of thing ? I know it can’t be a blatant add, could you share how to go about this better ?

    Best Mike

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 22nd, 2014 at 9:10 am

Just write a few bookmark descriptions like you were submitting to a site by hand. Then use those as the basis of your spin.

Hi Matt, nice tutorial. Wish this was about a few months back!

Anyway, for anyone interested I ran a tiered link building case study just using GSA SER with some great results.

    See here: http://noobwarrior.com/case-study-results-gsa-search-engine-ranker-initial-test/

The site still ranks very well, taking number 1 slot for over 10 mid traffic terms and climbing steadily for some the big volume ones.

I have a fast PC, that can easily handle 500 threads and more.
I also have 30 semi-dedicated private proxies from buyproxies.com, I use them for nothing but submission.
However, at how many threads can I set GSA SER, so that the proxies don’t get banned and stopped being accepted in submission?
How can I check If my proxies are banned? I believe the Google search/PR in GSA SER does not do the job?

Nice tip! I usually buy hotmail accounts from fiverr!

  140. Andrew

I have one question, do you recommend using thousands of keywords with GSA or a few keywords as in the tutorial. In addition would you recommend using scrapebox to scrape the urls for GSA to post to or that would be redundant? Does GSA take a long time to find the url’s when using keywords? Scrapebox seems to be a bit faster in scraping urls according to some reviews. Please advice. thanks again.

      1) Depends on your campaign

      2) Yes I have that running cocurrently

      3) ACtually it is pretty fast but I like to feed it more

  141. Rod

As usual people are getting over excited before even trying. I’ve run the free version and it looks not very easy to actually create good PR relevant links and no one here has actually had any succes with this tool as far as the comments that I’ve read so far show.

Getting decent backlinks on a relevant niche is really tough to achieve, so you better not get to excited before getting them – go and do some real work and come back and prove me wrong instead of screaming like small kids how wonderful this little toy is :)

            May 24th, 2014 at 2:47 pm

Since, I am trying to do this w/o spending any money at all – i.e. use the free version with no PP’s or AW’s it’s not going to be easy for me.

What I had in mind to do as I’ve already created my site with the content that I’ve written myself, I thought I could use GSA to find me a few high PR sites then I would insert my backlinks manually – but as mentioned before the software has not been able to find the right sites based on the keywords I had given it –

I could do a better job myself manually – I mean finding various blogs that I could leave comments on. But since my domain names is based on a brand name, nearly all of my comments are flagged as spams, so I’m really stock on building backlinks free of charges.

          • Matthew Woodward
            May 24th, 2014 at 3:44 pm

Is the brand name owned/trademarked by someone else? If so they could take it off you whenever they please

          • Rod
            May 24th, 2014 at 7:10 pm

They own the dot com, the other extentions are taken and are being used so there should be no probs as we’re their affiliates – one of the other extentions is earning them a lot of money as my AM has mentioned to me. And that’s why I started my site – I based it on his but rewrote all the content with much more improved details. All I need now is some ranking from Google – but unfortunately cannot use PPC or pay for some decent backlinks since I’d invested heavily on a losing venture before.

          • Matthew Woodward
            May 24th, 2014 at 7:45 pm

I’m talking from a legal perspective – if your domain contains a company name or brand which is trademarked, they can force you to give them the domain and website at any point they choose. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t mean it’s safe.

I’m just speaking out of experience here, it might not happen but I have had it happen to me – especially as an affiliate. From the companys standpoint why pay all these guys affiliate commisions when I can just control the domain/website and replace all the affiliate links with direct links – all it takes is 1 letter.

          • Rod
            May 25th, 2014 at 4:13 pm

Well, if that happens it’s just bad luck and it will have cost me $2 for the domain registration fees :) but time wise I will lose a lot because I’ve done all the work on it myself.

Having said that if they were going to do such a thing they would have done it by now to the extention which allegedly has been earning 20k per month

            May 25th, 2014 at 5:25 pm

            June 4th, 2014 at 2:56 pm

Not true Rod. I worked in online trademark/brand infringement for years and I can tell you for a fact that just because they have not come after the domain yet is no indication they will not come after it and you in the future. Best bet is to avoid the infringement from the start.

          • Matthew Woodward
            June 4th, 2014 at 4:12 pm

Word to that, if I was the brand I would let someone build it up before taking it away.

What is purpose of proxy? If you buy private proxy – and then stop payment – do you lose your links?

    Great Tutorial Matt.

    Just have couple of questions.

I have followed your best spinner tutorial and created a unique spun article and added it into the article manager. But I get the following message in GSA

“All articles used – Add some new”

Also how many proxies should we be using? and is it okay to only use 1 email account for submissions or do we need more as it will be annoying to go through 100 mail accounts to change the POP settings so GSA can log in.

Thanks in advance for your help! and keep up the good work :)

And also please manage to get $30-$40 Discount on GSA. I want buy it. Please negotiate with GSA team.

The cheapest way is to write and spin them yourself

  151. Ali

Hi Mathew, thank you so much for great tutorial.

I am looking for alternatives and your suggestions.

I need all of it, GSA SER, GSA CB, DeathbyCaptha Credit, Proxies, Kontent Machine, and a VPS, nothing less than that for Awesome Higher Rankings?

If for a KW, Local search is 170/pm, in approximately how much time I can get Spot One in Google with your tutorial and tools?

Although, I am not sure what is VPS and how to setup with my Laptop to run GSA Campaign?

On Every update or daily basis, how GSA SER imports the Links automatically or it internally harvests/scraps on current google results and start posting on items we told it to? And will it be very great IDEA to get SERLISTS by Ron Recurring lists of 10,00,000 every month for successful campaign?

I am newbie for GSA SER and very much willing to learn in SEO industry, I love SEO and I love your ACCENT and way of tutorials. G** BLESS YOU

    • Matthew Woodward
      June 23rd, 2014 at 1:04 am

Thats not an easy question to answer without doing a full competitive analysis of the rankings!

The VPS will let you have a remote windows enviroment hosted on a dedicated server so you can run GSA all day every day without using your laptops resources even when you turn the laptop off. You also get the benefits of the bandwidth of a 100mb connection as well to turn the threads up :) I use PowerUpHosting

GSA will automatically find new links to post to and harvest automatically!

        Thank you for responding.

So, Matthew, I want to ask that what are Must tools to run Normal Compaign or Tough Compaign for ranking to achieve, out of GSA SER, GSA CB, DeathbyCaptha Credit, Proxies, Kontent Machine, and a VPS

Good to know how VPS works. So, I shall Let GSA run the internal harvester and don’t need to buy ron’s list? LPM is not really that much important to be TOP SPEED.

        • Matthew Woodward
          June 24th, 2014 at 3:58 pm

Pretty much all of them :)

I don’t know who Ron is but no there is no need to buy a list

  153. Matthew Woodward

That was for a 3 day period a while back but is no longer available sorry :(

  154. Moshe Dahari

Hi Matt, I just bought GSA SER and learning how to use it. You mentioned in your Tiered link building videos that its critical to scrape your own sites and import it into a link building software.

My question is this necessary with GSA SER because you can put in a whole bunch of keywords and it will scrape target lists for you on the fly. I understand if you don’t want GSA SER to scrape, you can turn off search engines and just import target list from scrapebox for example.

What do you think is best to do?

    • Matthew Woodward
      June 28th, 2014 at 8:00 pm

With GSA you can do either :)

hi Matt, I am new to this link building world. In one of your tutorials you did mention about “Ultimate Demon”. So for link building purpose, which one is better GSA Search engine ranker or UD?
I am thinking to buy one if these S/w based your tutorials but got confused which one to buy..plZ suggest…also some websites have a feaututes to check whether the submission is from a person or autmated machine. in these cases how these s/ws work? waiting for your reply. based on your reply i will decided which software to buy. thanks

  167. Justin W.

Great post and video. I’ve watched it multiple times in the last few months as a reference point. There are so many options and features, it’s just so easy to get overwhelmed!

I have two questions. First, how would you use this to embed a youtube video across multiple sites? Is it possible with a certain settings bundle?

Also, can I use this software to syndicate to my own blog network, or only to comment? (Does it create tumblr/blogger type accounts?)

    • Matthew Woodward
      August 5th, 2014 at 11:15 am

      1) Just spin the video into your article

      2) Good question, I don’t actually know – drop support an email Sven will know or deliver a solution!

    Hey Matt

What link types would you recommend using in GSA for Tier 1?

    • Matthew Woodward
      August 9th, 2014 at 3:27 am

      Depends on the niche/your goals

      • andy
        August 9th, 2014 at 8:23 am

Hey Matt the goal is to maintain position 4-1 for around 4+ months which would be ideal but main goal is just page 1. The search terms have become more competitive with 2 guys doing link building but don’t think it’s gsa they have used. The nich is technology based.

        • Matthew Woodward
          August 12th, 2014 at 8:24 pm

Then I would use anything that provides contextual based links surrounded with relevant content

  170. Geoffk

Great tutorial Matt! As a newbie some of what was said still went over my head. I am a local marketer looking to use video for clients. Is GSA suitable for a newb or is there a simpler piece of software that would be effective for my purpose?

    Thanks in advance

  171. reven

Hi, matthew i see you recommend poweruphosting for running SEO tools………i want to run gsa ser and cb on poweruphosting with 10 dedicated proxies.

Can you tell me which plan should i buy …..$15/month which have 1 GB ram and 1 CPU or $30/month which have 2 GB ram and 2 CPU……..i am kinda spektical about ram used by window and GSA………Can you tell me if i can run GSA smoothly with 1 GB ram, 1 CPU.

And how much threads should i use with 10 Dedicated proxies or i should by shared one. I am going to scrape targets with GSA?

And what should be delay time between search query to not get my proxies blacklisted or banned by google?

    Thank You

    • Matthew Woodward
      August 14th, 2014 at 4:55 pm

The 2GB ram / 2 cpu option from PowerUpHosting will do the trick!

Don’t worry about delay time, GSA will take care of it for you!

    Hi Matt,

Have been a follower of the blog for a while now! Only just decided to take the bull by the horns in terms of taking control of my own SEO efforts. I have dowloaded the trial verison of GSA and GSA Capthca Breaker and have purchased 10 semi dedicated proxies, all set up and running. It looks as if my proxies have been blocked on certain search engines. Would you recommend purchasing more proxies? And would it be better to run this software from a VPS? My trial ends in 3 days and I am going to be purchasing through your affiliate link as you’re tutorial video really give me a good insight into where I need to focusing my efforts.

Oh and thanks for creating all the excellent content you do! I appreciate the effort it must take to put together a blog post like this one! Keep up the good work!

If I were to build a campaign for a danish site, would you recommend writing the spun articles in danish or english? I figure they will most likely be published on english-language sites?

And would it be better overall, to just start building english sites instead?

    Best regards

    Hello Matthew,

First of all thanks for this great tutorial!
I just bought 10 semi dedicated Proxies. In your opinion how many backlinks per day by proxy can I create to go under the radar?
Another question: How to create an open Linkwheel with SER?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Is there still good use out of GSA? Seems like a steep learning curve? Problem with this industry you are always buying software. The part that p***** me off , its not one cost cause then you got to spend more on captcha breaker and spinner ect

    Hi Matt,

I’ve been using GSA for more than a month now, and I noticed that the verified links are not increasing anymore, they somehow got “stucked”. Is this normal? Or should I do something else like adding additional email accounts?

    Great tutorial,
I have few questions regarding Tier link building with GSA.

    1. When I import url list and select certain platform in GSA, Will GSA post my links to builtin links and my list or only to my list ?
    2. Do we load separate list for separate Tiers ?
    3. How do we update custom lists ?
    4. How we run campaign multiple times ? How do we determine that we don’t use duplicate urls in any tier ?

    Thanks in advance

Hey Matt how many threads do you recommend with 10 private proxies?

    • Matthew Woodward
      June 25th, 2015 at 9:42 am

You can get away with around 15

      • Esteban
        June 26th, 2015 at 7:12 am

I tried 10 still managed to burn most of my private proxies. 1 for every proxy. May upgrade and invest in 25 proxies than use 14 threads (1 thread per 2 proxies) Html time is at 180 Search engines search inquiries at 100 seconds.

Could I also use just private proxies alone, don’t really want to use Public proxies, don’t see much of a result using them.

        • Matthew Woodward
          June 27th, 2015 at 9:07 am

Hi Matthew, massive thanks for a great tutorial here. I have a quick question regarding submissions.

I have been monitoring a campaign and noticed that total number of submitted URLs has suddenly dropped. It was previously showing around 150 and then dropped down to 70. Is this due to me setting the campaign up incorrectly? Or is something else at play here?

    Any help much appreciated,

    • Matthew Woodward
      August 24th, 2015 at 1:50 pm

It could be an incorrect setup its hard to tell I would speak with GSA support directly about that

Loving the blog and all the tutorials, but I’m a little confused.

Did you use GSA to build your backlinks, I ask because the first post I ever read on here was about you not building links. I can’t remember the name of the post.

Did you change your mind or just use it for the purpose of the turorial?

    Hi Sir Matt,

Your article on GSA is quite interesting. I would like to ask you about the Web 2.0 and Socialbookmark. Can we import to GSA a list of Web 2.0 sites and Socialbookmark sites that I registered manually? If it is possible, can I use it for other projects?

I am just starting out and would like to know more about GSA.

    thanks in advance.

  222. Pratik

Hey,I have been following your video since couple of months…First of all i would like to thank you for all that awesome stuff.

Currently- I have GSA,Scrape Box(Still not able to use it to full),VPS.

Now that i am targeting GSA links to my 2.0 is it safe to get all types of links such as guestposts, trackbaks, video, image, articles, etc etc…
I am still confused on this part .

Also i want to know if only targeting 8-10 web 2.0 can help me rank #1 or do i need to do some manual backlink or any other stuff also to get that dream Rank

Sorry if my comment is bit deviating from the actual topic.

    • Matthew Woodward
      October 9th, 2015 at 2:57 pm

Yes you should try to build a broad spectrum of links

  223. Eduardo

First of all, THANKS. Your blog is a true gold mine.

I have a couple of questions about GSA SER that I’d love if you could help me out:

    1) Is it possible to duplicate entire groups?

    2) On a single project, is it possible to set a link limit per link type?

    For example:
I want to build the following links: 10 Articles, 200 blog comments & 3000 Directories.

Under the options tab, it seems to be impossible to manipulate total links to create per link type.

Instead, there seems to be just a global option to stop after “X” verifications. With this method it would be impossible to get 10 Articles, 200 blog comments & 3000 Directories.

The only way around this issue I can think of, is to create a separate project for each link type, which is extremely time-consuming, specially when working with tiered link building structures.

Looking forward to your reply :)

    • Matthew Woodward
      October 9th, 2015 at 2:54 pm

      1) Yes

      2) No – you would need to separate it into separate projects

Matt in this video on how to insert video in any article you will like to create with Kontent machine, the old embed code that you talk about is different from what it is now .My question is can i modify the new embed code as you illustrated in the presentation same way?

Thanks in advance for answering this , because video content marketing is my focus.

    • Matthew Woodward

  227. Pitt

    hi Matt!
Great tutorial and you will make a sell asap!!
    Some questions though:
    1. How can we find eg. Bulgarian sites to submit? Scrapebox? (Have you an aff link?) I want to rank a bulgarian site..
    2. Content mashine has the option of spinning bulgarian or a non latin language? Or i just use english articles to bg sites?
    3. Can i write manualy a high quality article and use it as is it with no spintax to a whole campaign’or i would have duplicate content?
    4. How many days should i wait for a campaign to finish and close my pc, if i work from my place with some semidedicated proxies and not from a vpn?
    Sorry for all that questions!
I wait for a new tutorial and offer,

    • Matthew Woodward
      October 19th, 2015 at 9:58 am

      1) I have no experienced with this

      2) No but SEOContentMachine can do other languages so check with them.

      3) That would create duplicates

      4) Personally I never turn my computers off

Now I Know It’s Just An Automation Tool Which Make Link Building Easy.

        Thank You!

Hi Matthew, great tutorial! I’m still confused on one thing tho, perhaps I missed it somewhere, but I’m confused about the different statuses on projects. Like for instance, what is the difference between a project set as Active and a project set as Active (search and verify)?

    • Matthew Woodward
      October 26th, 2015 at 8:15 am

One is building links, one is just looking for links its already built and verifiying they exist or not.

I use now 100 threads only because I read that for every proxy calculate 10 threads. Can I use more threads, with public proxys I used 300 threads.
Other thing with 100 threads I ran today and 2 of my proxys that I bought today is not working. What is the solution?

          February 5th, 2016 at 2:34 pm

Honestly I only use semi private proxies and wouldn’t bother with the publics and the threads you use has more to do with available bandwidth/local computing power

    Hi Matt,

Does GSA SER still work in 2016 without Google Penalty? All of my products are in USA but GSA fetched links 95% China using public proxy. My VA doesn’t know how to make it USA.

Can you please guide us where in Advanced Settings how to make links in USA?

    Hi Matt,

I’ve recently bought GSA, version: 10.81, using semi-private proxies, No VPS, The Best Spinner, Death By Captcha, GSA Captcha Breaker, Catch All Boxes for emails.

I’m going through a hard time using GSA! I wanted to build links to my targeted scraped list only. But everytime GSA is posting on all of the platforms. My GSA Settings are okay too. I’ve tried every possible settings but it’s not working.

Can you please help me on that? Are there any resources available that describes how to build links only to targeted lists?

    Hello Mathew!
    Great work as always.
I was into white hat backlink profile but now I want to get a little bit dirty.
Does it still work the GSA. I heard that many sites are penalized and getting down. My website is new but I want to get a little bit of exposure not to throw a huge backlink profile in the front of G.
Please, let me know does it still work, and is there any strategy to keep a low profile. For example to create 100 backlinks/ month and to mix it with some link juice from bookmarking sites and social sites manually.
    Please, let me know!

    Keep up the good work!
    You’ re a beast!

How long it takes to rank a website for low to medium competitive keywords using the Churn and burn SEO campaign?

  255. Weston Brown

Hey, nice article. I’m trying to figure out which link building software to try. The last thing I want to do is get banned, but man. Manual linking building is a pain in the ***. I am a composer and musician and trying to build my music business online. I basically need software that will submit my posts and music videos to web 2.0 properties, article directories, video submission sites, and a list of social bookmarking sites.

I’m having a difficult time choosing between GSA, Ultimate Demon, and magic submitter. I know Ultimate Demon is $47 a month and MS is $67, but how much is GSA? When I type GSA into google I can not even find their main software website, which is strange. Is there any way I can try this software for free first?

Please let me know your thoughts on this, as well as if I can get into any trouble using different IP addresses. I read that changing your IP address is illegal while masking your IP address is not. The last thing I need is to get arrested for using a software to try and help grow my online music business :p

  256. Glenn Cooper

    Hi Matthew,

First of all, great blog, I have been reading it in detail for the last few days. I wish I could have a month from work activities just to read and digest everything here.

I made the purchase of GSA SER yesterday (you’ll be getting the aff. commission coming through ;) ). My problem is the sluggish activity compared to your video and I have the following questions:

    1. Is 10 proxies (semi-dedicated, from BuyProxies) REALLY good enough? I’ve got a dedicated server running on a 1TB connection. They seem to get blocked from Google within hours.

    2. Following on from above, my VpM starts at 2, then drops to 0.15 after a few hours. How can I increase this? I have followed this video above to the T and did not deviate from your specs.

    3. I have been reading around, and it seems that buying target URL lists are the way forward, would you agree? It seems in your video that the links are being placed quite quickly and would imply that your target URL list is optimized? When also reading around, it says that buying target URL lists would ease a lot of the work from SER, which makes sense. The problem is, it’s just cost after cost, when does it actually end?

Thanks in advance, and have a great weekend,

    Glenn Cooper

      Hey Glen,

      Thanks very much :)

      In answer to your questions-

      1) This depends on how hard you want to go. More threads will require more proxies although 10 is enough for most people with a couple of projects running.

      2) Take a look at https://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/tutorials/gsa-search-engine-ranker-advanced-optimization/ to optimize your vpm

      3) Yes that helps a lot because then GSA can just focus on posting rather than searching but its not required to buy the list because GSA is designed to find the link opportunities on it’s own – however that does take time for GSA to do.

    Hi Matthew,

First of all, great blog :)

With the release of Penguin 4 there are talks in the community that GSA is dead wood now. What are your thoughts on this? Also, are you able to suggest any other (easy) link building techniques / software,

Thank you, and all the best

    • Matthew Woodward
      November 8th, 2016 at 10:07 am

Anyone that says that has no understanding of what Penguin 4.0 is or how it works.

Way back when Google used to ignore what it considered ‘spammy’ links, then Penguin 1.0 came along and those ‘spammy’ links became negative factors.

Now with Penguin 4.0 they have reversed that decision and gone back to the old method of just ignoring ‘spammy’ links.

So if someone thinks it’s dead wood, they can’t see the woods for the trees.

      • Glenn Cooper
        November 8th, 2016 at 10:21 am

Thanks for the prompt reply. I understand that P4 means that these spammy links are being ignored (and that this approach counteracts negative SEO). But wouldn’t that suggest that GSA is a waste of time if the links are being ignored?

I’m carrying out a GSA experiment against two old money sites that I don’t really care too much for. Prior to me firing GSA up, the sites has zero backlinks so this would be an ideal experiment. One site is fed direct GSA links and another site is fed a Web2.0 and the GSA is boosting the Web2.0. It’s been nearly two weeks and the site that has the direct GSA links has not budged not one bit (1,000 contextual links).

        • Matthew Woodward
          November 8th, 2016 at 10:25 am

Well there are a thousand different ways to setup GSA but it sounds like you’ve got a good grasp on how to use it to build quality links.

What I’m saying is that with Penguin 4.0 there is no risk of opening the flood gates which is a huge opportunity in my opinion.

There is also more to ranking than just links, so without knowing the sites I can’t comment either way – but the proof is in the pudding and your well on your way to serving it :)

          • Glenn Cooper
            November 8th, 2016 at 10:31 am

Cheers for the prompt reply again. I think the best way forward is to test the software to see what sticks and what doesn’t :) If you had 5 tips for GSA usage in the current times (that has changed since this video), what would they be?

Hey Matthew, first, let say thank you very much for this awesome tutorial , it’s explaining everything really well.
after i watched the tutorial, i went to your affiliate link and bought GSA SER and GSA captcha breaker and also GSA 301 redirect pro and Seo content machine because it supports scrapping the Arabic language and x-spinner and i’m going to buy about 50 semi dedicated proxies to start with, also i’m going to subscribe with the link list that you provided in the tutorial and buy some email list, i’m i good to go now ?
my question for you is : can i use GSA SER to rank an Arabic website?
if i post Arabic content on English websites, will it get removed and all my work will be for nothing ?
or i can just make some web 2.0s manually and blast them with links, but it will be also from English websites, what should i do from your experience, sorry for talking too much, Thanks a lot ! awaiting your reply.

    Hey Mathew,

Did it leave any footprints? Reading your review it seems like pretty good and powerful solution. Is it possible that this GSA SEO tool is quite safe solution for making tons of backlinks? Just to add, I have their software GSA Captcha Breaker and I’m very satisfied, that little thing can break almost any captcha, many with 99,99% of success..

In the event of building adsense sites, would it be possible to build an authority site instead of multiple niche sites, build out each page as a separate niche or topic (think wikihow) and send GSA blasts to the innerpages of your authority site (with the blasts being targeted to that pages specific niche or just using a verified list)???? Do you know if it’s okay to blast to innerpages as well as homepages?

    Hi Matthew

I know what the pitfalls of using GSA can be. When I first started in SEO a few years ago, I wasn’t sure what I was doing and as most newbies getting carried away with their first affiliate sites, I managed to pretty much destroy it before I realised the way I was using it was absolutely wrong.

Can GSA still be applied in the same way in 2017 as you suggest in your videos? I’d be hesitant to use it on any tiers with my client sites, but I’d certainly try on a tier for an affiliate.

    Can it still be effective?

  276. Joaquin Rios

Thanks for the tutorial Matthew. Do you build your own lists or do you buy it. If you buy it, can you tell me where? When I start GSA only leave links on poor sites, with PA and DA too low, and some time moz mark the sites like spam. Thanks
