Every month I will publish a post like this one that shows you how this blog is progressing and everything I have done across the month to get it there.
These reports will help me track my own progress while teaching you what to do and more importantly what not to do.
What I Have Done In July
Today marks an important date for the blog – it is officially 2 years since the blog was first started on the 1st August 2012.
It will be interesting to see what the final number for the year is and to look at how the blog has grown year on year for the first time.
I had slacked off with publishing new posts and took control of that again this month.
I also pushed forward on an experiment (details below) and have kicked off a couple of other experiments for future case studies.
I even managed to squeeze a trip back to the UK in!
Last month I only published a couple of posts along with the regular features but this has jumped to 5 new posts & 3 updates.
The blog had a few interesting features this month including the SEO Olympics.
MTTB Experiment Update
Last month I told you about a new experiment & case study I’m working on using the MTTB System.
I have had both positive & negative comments from people about this experiment so I wanted to clarify why I’m doing it.
But when I did my research into it online I saw A LOT of negative feedback about it all.
So something didn’t add up – how can it be that on one hand I have personally met a bunch of people with no previous experience earning a lot of money with the system.
But on the other hand, there is huge amounts of negative feedback about it.
That just didn’t add up to me so I decided the best way to find out was to try their 21 step training system for myself to produce a detailed case study.
Last week I completed step 15 and spent an hour on the phone with my personal coach to put my final business plan together for MTTB.
MTTB Earnings Update
So far I have earnt a total of $3,437 with the MTTB training system including 2x $1,000 commissions and a $500 commission.
Not to bad considering I’m only on step 15 of 21 so far! Whilst it is too early to draw any conclusions, the proof really is in the pudding.
I have barely even tried yet and only put together the business plan with my personal coach last week.
I’m going to be executing that plan with a dedicated website over the next few months so stay tuned for a full blown case study when that is done!
In the mean time if you want to learn more just watch this free video.
Another experiment I’m currently running on the blog is with AfterOffers.
It is really interesting and has allowed me to monetize a ‘dead page’ earning a total of $171.50 this month.
When someone subscribes to my email list they get taken to my confirmation page (featured here) telling the person to confirm their email address.
But now that page also shows them something like this-
They get the option to join other peoples mailing lists at the same time!
There are always 4 other email lists for them to choose from and you get paid out $0.50 for each one the user signs up to.
So every time someone subscribes there is a potential to earn $2.00 rather than the dead page they would previously see.
At the same time I’m also buying those new email subscribers by displaying my email list offer on other peoples confirmation pages.
It’s still early days yet but its another experiment that is starting to bear fruit so I thought I would share it with you all now!
Magazine Front Cover
I was also featured on the front cover of the Digital Marketing Monthly magazine this month.
If you have an iPhone/iPad or other iOS device you can get a copy here
You can also get a free 3 month subscription to the magazine-
- Download the app
- Click on the Subscribe button
- Select Current Subscribers
- Enter the promo code 3months
Ironically I’m an Android guy so can’t actually read it myself!
Let me know what you think of it if you do though!
Updated Navigation Structure
I spent some time updating the navigation structure of the blog this month.
I have received a lot of feedback that it is difficult for people to find what they want on the blog.
So I went through all of my most popular tutorials and categorized them in a spreadsheet, then used that to build out a new menu structure for the blog.
The new menu is now live in the header and the tutorials drop down should make it a lot easier for you all to find things now!
Tools Of The Trade
I also spent some time updating my Tools Of The Trade page.
I hadn’t updated it for a while and it was amazing to see just how much my toolset has changed over that period of time.
So now you can see a list of all of the tools/plugins I use along with a list of those you should avoid all based on my personal experience & what I’m using right now.
Return To The UK
A couple of days ago I flew back to the UK for a week!
I needed to do some things for the businesses and it was 3 friends birthdays so the timing was perfect!
It’s interesting to come back after 3 months away. Its cold when its hot, everyone drives on the wrong side (left) of the road and I’ve drank a years worth of tea so far.
I’ve got a 22 hour journey across 3 timezones through New York. Followed by another long haul flight to New York which is on a different time zone again – leading straight into my Affiliate Summit presentation.
Should make the presentation interesting anyway – I haven’t even rehearsed it, I’m hoping that simply speaking from the heart about what I love doing will be enough to bring the house down!
Only one way to find out!
Crunching The Numbers
So let’s get our hands dirty and take a look at what my hard work has done for me this month.
Last month traffic was sitting at 43,347 (1,444/day) which this month has risen to 46,656 (1,505/day).
It is good to see that the extra work put in this month has paid off on the traffic front!
Although the 50,000 uniques in 1 month milestone still eludes me, grrr!
Most Popular Content
The blackhat ranking case study claims the top spot this month!
Interestingly though my email marketing guide didn’t get that much traction although its key to this blogs success.
Top Traffic Sources
The traffic report is interesting this month with someone spamming views to get themselves listed in the top 10.
As you can see the quality of that traffic is very poor with an average session duration of 2 seconds.
So granted spamming the referrer has got my attention, but in the worst possible way.
Other than that the top traffic sources remain the same!
Search Engine Traffic
Google traffic grew last month to 34,958 (1,165 per day) and that growth has continued this month to 38,020 (1,226 per day).
It would be nice to see Google break the 40,000 mark again like it did in March.
I lost all of my historical YouTube views because of changes I made to the branding – so I keep track of them separately.
Last month YouTube brought in 22,604 views which has seen a small but nice increase to 23,027 this month.
Although views were up total minutes watched dropped from 132,703 to 131,006.
That still means there were 3 people watching my videos every single minute of every single day in July though!
The blog has seen a total of 48,186 shares across Facebook, Twitter and Google+ this month compared to 45,565 last month.
- Google+ – 13,105 (12,130 last month)
- Twitter – 21,138 (20,006 last month)
- Facebook – 13,943 (13,429 last month)
My Forum Statistics
The forum was hit by a lot of spam registrations this month which I managed to clean up – although its possible some genuine users got deleted in the process.
In fact I deleted nearly 5,000 users although I suspect there are still a lot that got through the net.
I have made some changes to prevent that happening again though so we’ll see if they work out next month!
Despite that there were 48 new topics & 71 replies made on the forum in total.
- Users: 10,224 (14,980 last month)
- Topics: 1,170 (1,122 last month)
The most important metric on the entire blog – earning a subscription from someone is the ultimate form of commitment and conversion.
This month brought 7,071 new subscribers across various channels which is a great increase from last month’s total of 5,319.
There are now a total of 66,794 subscribers across all of the different channels.
- E-mail – 2,038 (1,628 last month) / Total: 30,250
- Twitter – 815 (187 last month) / Total: 4,647
- YouTube – 328 (246 last month) / Total: 5,356
- Facebook – 636 (67 last month) / Total: 11,231
- Google+ – 3,071 (2,811 last month) / Total: 14,521
- RSS – 183 (-160 last month) / Total: 789

I separate out the consultation earnings from the affiliate earnings. The blog drives affiliate sales directly and whilst it does generate consultation leads these are separate projects in their own right.
This month I helped out an older client generating a total of $757.77
I’m working on another project right now that is part of the blog but not something I’m ready to talk about publicly yet or maybe ever.
I will declare the income here though as it wouldn’t be possible without the blog and ‘technically’ it is affiliate income.
This earned a total of $3,015.89 up from last months $1,100.
I have continued to plant seeds with this that should result in a similar increase next month.
- Affiliate Income – $14,701.23
- Consultation Income – $757.77
- Other Income – $3,015.89
- Expenses – $49.99
Grand Total: $18,424.90 / £10,947.20 ($16,727.05 / £9,752.76 last month)
Another month & another record breaking month of income for the blog!
It wasn’t long ago I was struggling to break the $10,000 barrier, now I have nearly doubled that to break the £10,000 barrier!
Well today marks the 2 year anniversary of the blog as it was launched on August 1st 2012.
In year 1 the blog had-
- 632,452 pageviews
- 572,763 minutes watched
- $73,334.09 profit
In year 2 alone the blog has done-
- 4,074,648 pageviews
- 2,220,877 minutes watched
- $147,946.14 profit
Which takes the blog to a total of 4,707,100 pageviews, 2,793,640 minutes watched & $221,280.23 profit!
It has been a lot of hard work but as you can see, the hard work has certainly paid off and will continue to do so.
I would like to thank every single person that has contributed to that. Whether your a casual browser or have bought something through an affiliate link. It really does mean a lot!
If I can do it, anyone can!
I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for joining me on this journey.
