Income Report Roundup – March 2015

One of the most popular posts I publish are my income reports.

So I decided to round up as many income reports as possible and rank them based on earnings to see how I stack up against the rest.

If you publish an income report on your blog and would like it included in next month’s post then please let me know in the comments!

Here we go-

#1) PinchOfYum.com – $26,245.58 (+$6,745.82)

PinchOfYumThe PinchOfYum team do it again and reclaim the top spot where they belong.

They had nearly 1.5 million visitors last month which is absolutely incredible, over 500,000 of those are coming from Pinterest alone!

The team have been focused on improving conversion rate of their landing pages they also experimented with long vs short pins to see which got the most attention.

#2) MakingSenseofCents.com – $23,758.00 (+$8,362.00)

MakingSenseofCentsA big congratulations to Michelle for posting her best month so far!

Although the huge jump in income is down to selling a website, that does means she now has more time to focus on her other projects.

So we might see a big drop off in income next month, but looking to the future I would expect Michelle to beat this month soon with her newly found time & focus.

#3) MatthewWoodward.co.uk – $16,775.90 (-$4,187.83)

Matthew WoodwardThe blog had quite a big drop off as time was spent elsewhere.

First of all I’ve been working hard on the back end of the agency which has left less time for the blog.

However as I’m writing this I know what I’ve been upto this month that I am confident will see the blog reach the $50k month! All will be revealed on Wednesday :)

How to start a successful blog in 7 days

#4) TrueValhalla.com – $5,184.00 (+$2,046.00)

TrueValhallaAfter taking it easy the past couple of month’s, Matt has stepped up a gear this month.

With a solid plan in hand and a new motivation to get things done Matt has invested time tweaking his workflow for optimal efficiency.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens this year with the Aeon Chapters project!

#5) AuthorityWebsiteIncome.com – $2,787.00 (-$12,169.90)

AuthorityWebsiteIncomeWe haven’t heard from Jon for a while & unfortunately it’s his worst month ever.

The services face of his business took a big hit which is typical in the industry over the festive period but that has just filtered down to him.

Not to fear though Jon has a lot of assets and with multiple faces to his business he’ll be over the festive bump in no time at all.

#6) MyTanFeet.com – $2,398.82 (-$1,506.29)

MyTanFeetWith a similar increase last month, the travel blogging duo see a similar loss this month.

They have finally returned to Costa Rica after a long trip but that hasn’t stopped them travelling round and having fun.

The team striked an exclusive deal with a company that pays them great commission which is already starting to bear fruit! There is a lesson in that.

#7) DigitalNomadWannabe.com – $2,309.00 (+$1,001.00)

digitalnomadSharon has had a great month of income growth even if it was a frustrating month.

Her computer broke and then the replacement didn’t work, then the shop was closed for a week. Living abroad certainly does have it challenges at times that’s for sure!

Traffic is growing steadily but more impressively she managed to quadruple sign ups to her blog – not a bad crack at the whip :)

#8) DumbPassiveIncome.com – $2,244.38 (+$3,302.90)

DumbPassiveIncomeLast month Matt posted a $1k loss after making some investments that have really paid off this month.

Going from the bottom of the table after posting a $1k loss to the number 8 spot with a healthy profit is a great effort!

Hopefully he keeps that forward momentum going as he continues to reinvest and profit from his Amazon business.

#9) TravelBlogBreakthrough.com – $1,662.96 (+$834.16)

willA new entry to the roundup, I met Will Tang at Affiliate Summit recently so welcome him to the report.

It’s great to see a new entry post a healthy boost in profit in their first appearance.

He has some great content on the blog and I’m sure we will be seeing Will rise through the ranks. Especially if he had his own product ;)

#10) LifestyleUltimatum.com – $386.61 (+$229.50)

lifestyleutmAndrea has spent his time elsewhere but still posted a profit on last month.

While he is working with clients he has managed to switch his workflow to spend less time on the blog, but while still updating it just as often.

Planting seeds like that now will certainly grow and flourish in the future!

#11) OneHourProfessor.com – $92.08 (+$115.84)

ohpRon posted a loss last month but has fought back this time around!

Most of his income is made up from consulting and all of his time is broken down, but unfortunately expenses ate into the net profit.

He didn’t manage to meet all of his goals which have rolled over into this month, launching a Udemy course is certainly going to help with income!

#12) RestaurantCoverings.com – -$101.74 (-$7.75)

PhilipA new entry to the roundup & a blog that is still in it’s very early stages.

Even though Philip’s blog is still growing, he has already built an audience of nearly 2,000 people per month which is very impressive!

It’s now just a case of staying consistent, tweaking, growing & enjoying the ride.

#13) MyRecipeBook.co.uk – -$178.94 (-$196.12)

myrecipeCharlotte is still growing her little recipe blog & is staying consistent with her efforts.

She is focused on creating new recipes left, right & centre but that’s not the only food content she could create. How about X Foods From The 80’s You Forgot About – there are lots of viral angles in the food niche.

Charlotte also spent a lot of time improving her photography, building foundation skills like that will reflect in all of her work moving forward.

#14) MissBiziBee.com – -$435.18 (-$95.74)

bizziThe third newcomer this month is Kaitlin. Nanny by day, blogger by night.

Her blog is focused DIY & crafts after deciding to quit her job and follow her true passion – a big step for anyone!

Traffic is already growing nicely and she is spending time and money to put the right foundations in place to grow quickly in the future.

In Summary

We have had a bunch of new blogs added to the roundup this month and although 2 of them are posting a loss right now, they are the best blogs to pay attention to.

It is always interesting to watch blogs that are just starting out, the challenges they face & how they overcome them.

Last month all of the blogs featured earned a combined total of $84,163.31, but this month that has dropped slightly to $83,210.97!

Not a huge drop but with the festive slump well and truly over combined with some exciting new blogs to watch I am sure we will break the 6 figure barrier again.

If you feel inspired to start your own blog then why don’t you start right now? It only takes a few minutes!

Performance Tracking

I only include the earnings history of the top 10 blogs each month to make the graphs easy to read.

Feeling so inspired by these incomes even though my blog is not making me big profit yet but I believe that its possible for me to make big profit from my blog. Thanks Matt for inspiring me.

        Hi Matt,

Thanks a lot, I will do that.

        Thank you.

  5. Raza

    Man, that is so motivating.

I’m glad I joined your email list or I would have missed this post.

I’m in the fitness niche and would love to see some fitness bloggers on here. Hopefully I’ll be here someday.

But I love seeing blogs making money online that are NOT about “making money online”

      March 31st, 2015 at 8:26 am

      Thank you for subscribing :)

I see oppertunity in the fitness niche by niching down, eg everyone does ‘fitness blogs’ or how to get ripped etc etc, but no one actually ties that into something relevant.

Except for a couple I have seen, one is nerd fitness – targetting us nerdy types and the other was a lady I met at the UK Blog Awards with ‘the fat girls guide to running’

  6. Pawan Anand

It’s great man …………but im shocked to see your revenue dropped..

I noticed the first person, PinchofYum had a ton of traffic from Pinterest.
I know recipes are huge on there, but I don’t know much else about it.

Would Pinterst be a good platform to try and generate traffic for a sports blog?

      Honestly, not a clue haha

  9. Fabrizio

Inspiring to see all these bloggers making an income from blogging, I love the way you’ve also included some smaller earners as well, great contrast, and something that not very many top level bloggers do, anyone looking at this can realistically relate to it in some way. Great job Matthew, and nice income for you too mate.

    Keep up the awesome work.

Well I like watching the new people grow, they are the best journeys and I try to sprinkle a little bit of advice here and there as we go :)

  10. Rasmus

Nice to see some more income reports. Even though a 4k drop seems like a lot, you still made more in a month than most people could ever imagine possible :) You will get back on top Matt. Quick question, have you ever made a blog post about convertion rates for different affiliate niches? Like what you can expect in convertions from having a desent website to a great one like yours.

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 31st, 2015 at 8:22 am

Well its not the biggest drop I have had :)

It’s hard to generalise conversion rates for different niches as some people do much better jobs than others. I can find people in any niche that convert at 0.1% and then others at 10%.

Another great Income report. Matt, although I do not read each one of your blog posts but I make sure to check this one out every month. It’s inspiring and motivates me to work harder.

I have started creating some online courses. Will be nice to see how that works out.

    Have a good Day Matt.

  16. Matthew Allen

Cool to see several newbies in the roundup this month! A subtle reminder that we all started off making very little. Those of us who stick with it and stay in the game are reaping the rewards. I’m glad you are keeping it diverse and including some new people and not just featuring the same top blogs every single month.

    • Matthew Woodward
      March 31st, 2015 at 8:17 am

That is very true indeed, I just hope some of the new entrys that are posting a loss right now remain consistent in their efforts.

The problem with looking at how much moeny you made each month when you just start out is it can be very demotivating especially when your not making what you want to make.

So when you start out, the only metrics you should care about are number of visitors, number of subscribers, number of social shares and number of comments.

Focus on growing those 4 metrics each month, the money will flow in time.

Hi Matthew, very nice post. I want to start one blog with the showing of my income but in french. I was wondering if you had a list of steps by steps things to do when you first launch a new blog.

What you need to do to make your site go up the search results.

Awesome because for me to write that, means I can’t go to sleep tonight. I have an 18 hour flight starting at 6am but I can’t collect the stats until midnight. So I’ve got a 6 hour window to get the stats, write the post, publish it and sleep haha

  23. Steven Lucas Internet Marketing Blog

First of all it’s great to see that even low earners can make it onto a top table. This is the sort of thing that gives ‘occasional’ earners like me something to aim for. I made $56.43 this month with $10 spent on joining a JV Giveaway – Go ME!

Secondly it’s also nice to see the honesty of the participants, especially the ones making a loss. That gives real confidence to the followers, copiers and wannabes that want to emulate them.

Finally, thank you Matthew for putting this all together. You always have something interesting to say and your style is easy to follow. Keep up the good work, good sir.

  26. JeF

I’m writing tonight because of Philip Kleudgen.
    (actually thanks to him!)
After his guest post at Jon Morrow’s blog
I read his income report and was amazed.

How can he dare to publish income reports where there’s no income ???
…this question went on in my mind for a few hours, and then…

    Then I realized :
“I’m the fool and HE is right : in his mind he is planning to receive income, so he’s tracking it, monitoring it from the start.
In his benchmarks for success he put subscribers, social signals, lots of things, but income is one of them.
So he’s creating a space that has to be filled.”

So I decided to write mine (did you notice, I did not say “publish”…)
    But enough is enough!
(I guess I’m finally ready to take this seriously)
Thank you Philip, thank you Matthew.
    Here it is :

(and by the way : my blog is in French, but the income report is in English)

@Matthew : I just saw that you asked for 3 published reports before asking you to publish here. So don’t publish my comment yet, I can stay in my shell for a while…

      April 6th, 2015 at 10:21 am

      Hi Jef,

One of the biggest mistakes I see people making is focusing on making money. All you should care about at the start is getting more traffic, subscribers, social shares and comments month on month.

  28. Charlotte Oates

You make a really good point about potential viral posts. I’ve got a lot of ideas, I’m just not sure which to start with!

My focus has been on building up a decent number of recipes and now I’m up to 50 I’m going to start branching out with a few different things.

    All the best on 50k

      April 6th, 2015 at 9:28 am

Well the best way to find out, is list your favourite 3, close your eyes and point at one randomly :)

Even if it tanks, you’ll be better positioned to pick a winner :)

  29. Ben

Very interesting, different approach, very readable, very positive, but also realistic comments, nice the bloggers are in many different niches and levels
I have filtered out most internet marketers from my main email a while ago (technique mentioned by James Schramko to free up your time) , but yours are a standout, and remain, Keep it up Matthew!

  30. samir

This type of post has always give me boost to work harder on my niche blog. April is really bad month for me. dropping almost 50% of my income from march. Thank you Matt! I am ready to get my 50% of income lost back next month.
