Income Report Roundup – January 2015

Income report roundupOne of the most popular posts I publish are my income reports.

So I decided to round up as many income reports as possible and rank them based on earnings to see how I stack up against the rest.

If you publish an income report on your blog and would like it included in next month’s post then please let me know in the comments!

Here we go-

#1) MatthewWoodward.co.uk – $22,421.90 (-$13,241.15)

Matthew WoodwardEven though I saw a huge expected drop I still came out on top this month.

I suspect that is because a certain food blog haven’t published their income report and were enjoying some time off over the festive period.

I did exactly the same so who can blame them :) Next month’s report won’t be great either but the Christmas slump is nearly over!

#2) Moms-Make-Money.com – $15,544.80 (-$5,202.78)

MomsMakeMoneyWe have watched Deby grow over the past year and now she moves into the number 2 spot.

She is setting new traffic or income records every single month back to back – I better hold tight to that number 1 spot while I’ve got it.

What I love about how Deby makes money is it is all in the arts & crafts niche which is notoriously difficult to make any substantial money in.

#3) MakingSenseofCents.com – $13,673.00 (-$861.00)

MakingSenseofCentsMichelle is someone else we have been tracking for a long time & wraps her year up with $163,929.

We have watched her take the jump from full time employee to a full time self employed internet marketer.

In 2015 she wants to increase profits by 15% & put herself out there more with interviews all while writing a book.

#4) TrueValhalla.com – $2,638.00 (-$7,415.00)

TrueValhallaMatt is a pro HTML5 games developer & took time to streamline his business this month.

It is important to take a step back from everything once in a while and review your action plan. I did exactly that with this blog which is going to make for an interesting first quarter.

Unfortunately Matt fell just shy of his annual income goal of $100,000 but he still made $89,469 which is a great success for a 1 man band working in an emerging market!

#5) DoSEOYourself.com – $2,258.53 (+$137.53)

jasonJason has had a busy month & didn’t have time to update his blog.

As he took some time off over the festive period he reviews the blogs position and decided his time is better spent elsewhere.

That doesn’t mean he is abandoning the blog but he is making it a lower priority when compared to other projects.

#6) MyTanFeet.com – $2,249.26 (-$19.92)

MyTanFeetThe MyTanFeet team are working on the road & manage to bring in a stable income each month.

They seem to have hit a plateau over the past few month though which seems to be something nearly ever blogger in the report has hit at one point.

As they move into 2015 they have some solid plans to leverage what they have already built to increase profits substantially.

#7) DumbPassiveIncome.com – $1,887.15 (+$1,573.17)

DumbPassiveIncomeThe fruits of Matt’s physical product investments are staying to pay off this month.

Last month looked bad because he had a lot of expenses that wouldn’t be reflected as income until this month and as you can see everything went to plan.

His net income was the same as last month but now he can focus on reducing expenses while raising sales to grow steadily.

#8) DigitalNomadWannabe.com – $1,041.00 (+$215.74)

digitalnomadSharon had been suffering from a downward trend of income which has stabilised this month.

This is all down to moving country at the end of December which has a huge impact on every single aspect of your life.

Once Sharon has settled down I’m sure we will see her bounce back to her former earnings!

#10) RankTactics.com – $748.58 (+$225.68)

ranktacticsThe very first income report Rizvan posted was for a loss of $38.40 – since then he has continued to grow.

All of his key metrics continue to grow steadily each month as he stays consistent with his blogging strategy.

There isn’t a single month that has gone by where he hasn’t shown improvement on all fronts – it is just a matter of time.

#11) LifestyleUltimatum.com – $436.74 (-$279.08)

lifestyleutmThis month Andrea was distracted with a new dog & the Christmas period.

This saw a drop off in how much he posted & worked on promotion which in turn saw a drop off in income. Every pro blogger will tell you the number 1 secret to blogging success is consistency.

It will be interesting to see how the blog progresses in the coming months!

#12) OneHourProfessor.com – -$623.36 (-$534.70)

ohpRon makes a great job of breaking down his time to track his performance.

Although he posted a big loss this month this is down to expenses for a new course he is developing to release in the future.

At the moment that is hitting his bottom line hard, but once it is launched and available for sale it will hit his bottom line in a very different way.

In Summary

Unfortunately a few of the blogs I usually track either haven’t published income reports this month or their site was unavailable at the time of writing.

The Christmas period has hit most people pretty hard. It is always a bit of a slumpy season but at the same time everyone took a bunch of time off.

The great news is that as we move into the new year everything will boom again – we just have to be patient!

Last month the blogs featured earned a total of $107,890.69 but that dropped wildly to $62,257.29 this month.

I will be publishing my new income report on the 1st of February, which is a Sunday YUCK.

If you feel inspired to follow in their foot steps then why don’t you start a blog today? It only takes a few minutes!

Performance Tracking

I only include the earnings history of the top 10 blogs each month to make the graphs easy to read.

Not sure why you weren’t able to get to my report this month (I guess my site must have been down). It’s at http://myrecipebook.co.uk/building-my-blog-december-2014/ if anyone wants to take a look.

Thanks for including me Matthew. I think I made it to 2nd spot only because that Yummy food blog isn’t featured this time around. I’m determined to beat YOU one month!

Nice to read these motivating reports, I am once again back in the saddle at Niche Addictions after a hiatus due to divorce and a new job, but I relish the opportunity to stick it in my ex’s face after constantly putting me down for “blogging”, I know many of my IM compatriots have battled with family and friends putting them down for swinging the bat!

I haven’t blogged about my income in a while, posts like this motivate me to jump back on the band wagon!

I did check my 1099 in Paypal today and found I brought in over 27k in 2014 which is 90% from Internet marketing projects. Best year for me yet!

This monthly round up is still one of the most inspiring things on the internet.

Matt, I’ll be restarting the income reports for 2015. Moving to a new blog (away from lostcyclist). Will hit you up with an email when the first one is live.

Keep up the killer work. Your still one of the best blogs out there.

    Hey Matt,

great roundup as always. It’s fascinating to see starting bloggers like Rizvan rise to the top.

And of course to get insights from the pros :-)

  9. Nathan

    Hey Matthew,

You’re one of the reasons and biggest inspirations for me starting my blog. Just out of curiosity, why do these blogs post their income before the month is complete?

    • Matthew Woodward
      January 31st, 2015 at 3:46 pm

      Thanks Nathan :)

They don’t – these are all of the Decemeber income reports in the January roundup because not everyone posts on the 1st

You need to have published 3 monthly reports consecutively sorry

  11. Richard Martin

Whao, I’m sorry your income dropped Matthew, but thumbs up for the transparency and the fact that I can relate to this sort of drop (just not on your scale) I went from my best month ever in Nov ($1100) to a pretty slender Dec ($350).

So nice to see the transparency and the direct relation to seasonal activities and earnings, as opposed to other ‘authority’ bloggers seemingly not being prone to a Christmas slump.

It’s just how it rolls unfortunately, February – November are usually golden :)

  12. ko

These made for interesting reading. It appeared more made their money from products related to blogging as opposed to products related to specific niches (e.g dating, health, finance etc)

      January 31st, 2015 at 3:44 pm

Not at all, take a look at pinchofyum.com their main source is recipe books.

  13. Jon

Surprising that the Christmas period is a ‘slump’ for blogs, although it does make sense. In my experience websites that rely on AdSense instead see a bit of a jump in CPC since advertisers are throwing thousands of dollar bills at AdWords to hop on the Christmas sales rush.

But then of course affiliate marketing can have more cash potential than just AdSense depending on what type of site it is and the kind of traffic they get.

      January 31st, 2015 at 3:43 pm

It’s general because people move more into the physical product world at this time of year

      • Jon
        January 31st, 2015 at 5:44 pm

That’s true, I suppose straight after Christmas people are looking to spend less money rather than more.

  14. Ron Stefanski

Thanks again for including me in these, Matt. The good thing is I think I turned a small profit in January.

The bad thing is it’s a SMALL profit..

However, everyone else is inspiring me to keep pushing forward!

Awesome roundup Matthew. Way back in 2008 I remember a lot of Bloggers were doing monthly income reports (including myself) and I got a lot of value from them, and I know a lot of my readers really enjoyed them as well.

That’s why I decided to start doing them again with my brand new blog i just launched a month ago. My first month’s income report for January 2015 can be found here:

It’d be cool if you could include my reports in future posts.

Cool, thanks Matthew. I do have income reports I did back in 2008 when I published each month for I think it was 6 months straight until I hit the goal I set for myself. Does that count? :)

          February 4th, 2015 at 11:49 am

Nope, it has to be 3 consecutively. If you ever miss 1, you start from 0 again

  17. Jason B

Excellent article. This is very motivating. It shows people that you can make online money and succeed. I’ve been following Michelle’s journey for a minute. I haven’t heard of many of the others though.

If you are just starting out you should be focused on number of subscribers, not number of $$$.

What are your thoughts?
