I setup 18 test blogs across 7 popular managed WordPress hosting providers.
And then I ran 6 tests across each of those 18 blogs-
- Speed of loading from different locations around the world
- Ability to cope with a plugin-heavy WP blog
- Ability to handle a heavy simultaneous traffic load
- How each hosts hardware benchmarks
- Support speed & quality
- Value for money (very surprising result!)
- Kinsta – Who are the current host of this blog
- Cost: 2 websites, $60 monthly, $600 annually
- CDN: Yes – KeyCDN included
- WPX Hosting – The previous host of this blog before Kinsta
- Cost: 5 websites, $24.99 monthly, $249.99 annually
- CDN: Yes – WPX Cloud included

So with WPEngine & LiquidWeb being the most expensive of all of them by a long way.
You would expect them to be the clear winners…
Right?
Not even close.
How I Tested WordPress Hosting Speed
I setup a total of 18 test sites across each of the 7 hosts.
Hosts that included a CDN as part of their package had 2 sites installed on them (WPXHosting, Kinsta & WP Engine).
Hosts that ask you to use a free CDN like CloudFlare had 3 sites installed on them (Siteground, Hostgator, Amazon EC2 & LiquidWeb).
All of the sites are hosted in the USA.
Then I created 3 different types of blog on 1 host and cloned that across each host using this plugin–

2,000 words
Plugin Heavy

30 plugins
No text/images
CloudFlare
Blog Type #1
Plus Free CloudFlare CDN

Here are the results of my 6 tests-
Test #1 – Image Heavy Site Loading Speed
In this test:
I took the Blog Type 1 (image heavy) install for each host and ran it through GTMetrix twice.
Often a sites content is cached on the hosting server and CDN.
So I ran 2 passes of GTMetrix to make sure all caches were primed.
Then I tested each site from 7 global locations and averaged out the results.
This is what it looks like-
Test #1 Conclusions
But it’s fair to say that all of the hosts performed within acceptable levels in Canada and North America (except for Amazon EC2).
It’s only when you start taking a global look at things do you see dramatic differences in the load times.
But having globally fast loading times is critical in the modern economy.
Test #2 – Plugin Heavy Site Loading Speed
A plugin heavy site can cause huge problems when it comes to load times.
And it’s easy to get carried away!
This blog has 56 active plugins at the time of writing-
And plugins can have such a big impact on load time…
WP Engine maintains a list of plugins that are banned on their platform.
So for the Blog Type 2 (plugin heavy) installs, I installed 30 popular plugins with no other content whatsoever.
This test is different because we are testing the computing power of the host, rather than the speed of delivering static image files.
Then I tested each plugin heavy install from 7 global locations & averaged out the results-
Test #2 Conclusions
Like the first test, WPX Hosting is the winner here.
Although it is a marginal win over WP Engine.
It’s worth bearing in mind that the tested page had absolutely zero content.
And the slower hosts seem to have started choking with the higher number of requests.
Test #3 – WordPress Performance Tester Benchmarks
The WordPress Performance Tester plugin is specifically designed to stress test WordPress hosting servers.
It does that by running a number of tests-
- Math – 100,000 math function tests
- String Manipulation – 100,000 string manipulation tests
- Loops – 1,000,000 loop iterations
- Conditionals – 1,000,000 conditional logic checks
- MySql – basic mysql functions and 1,000,000 ENCODE() iterations
- $wpdb – 250 insert, select, update and delete operations
And then outputs 2 performance metrics-
- Execution Time – how long it took to do all of those tests (lower is better)
- Queries Per Second – how many queries per second processed (higher is better)
I ran each of the Blog Type 1 (image heavy) installs for each host through the plugin.
And these were the results…
Test #3 Conclusion
As you can see 2x of the more budget friendly hosts WPX Hosting & Siteground performed incredibly well here.
But interestingly:
That is the exact opposite of what I would expect to happen…
You would think those extra $$$ translate into better hosting hardware and setups!
But the data is telling a different story.
Test #4 – Load Impact
Next I wanted to know:
How would each host perform under stress from 500 simultaneous visitors?
However I had a huge problem:
Most hosts automatically block tests like this because it reseambles a DDOS attack.
But it was critical that I conducted anonymous testing because I didn’t want the hosts to know I was testing them.
So I created a new page on each Blog Type 1 (image heavy) install with 1,000 words-
- WPX Hosting – https://hostingtest1.space/load-impact/
- WP Engine – https://hostingtest3.space/load-impact/
- Kinsta – https://hostingtest5.space/load-impact/
- SiteGround – https://hostingtest7.space/load-impact/
- Hostgator – https://hostingtest10.space/load-impact/
- Amazon – https://hostingtest13.space/load-impact/
- Liquid Web – https://hostingtest16.space/load-impact/
Then I set Load Impact to work by sending 500 simulated visitors to load each page on each host.
This is how it played out-
Test #4 Conclusion
From the tests I was able to complete-
WPX Hosting was the hands down winner here – it wasn’t even close.
And although WPEngine, Amazon and LiquidWeb were slower…
They did not collapse under the testing and remained online.
As for the other hosts I had problems testing with-
- Kinsta – LoadImpact was reporting a problem with overloaded Amazon VPS’s
- SiteGround – Either the hosting failed or they automatically blocked LoadImpact
- HostGator – Fell down during testing , the site went offline with a 503 error
And while I would have loved to get a result for them…
It would have brought attention to my testing & I wanted to test anonymously.
Perhaps in the future I will be able to run this test again for the missing hosts.
Test #5 – Hosting Support
Speed of your website is one thing.
And given that the tested hosts are self proclaimed “WordPress Experts”…
I wanted to put that to the test.
So I opened an identical support ticket with each host to see-
- How long it took to respond
- If they would fix the problem for me

It’s not a super easy problem to fix…
But it’s not super difficult either.
Any WordPress expert should be able to tackle it.
In my opinion the easiest way to solve this problem is with a .htaccess edit like this-
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^(/wp-admin|.wp-login.php.) [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http:/hostingtest3.space//$1 [R=301,L]But:
There is always more than one way to skin a cat!
Test #5 Conclusion
As expected – the test results varied wildly here.
Some hosts took full control and deployed a solution on my behalf…
Where as others… didn’t.
Here is how they performed-
And out of those 3-
It was WPXhosting that solved the problem the quickest and with minimum fuss.
However:
Their “WordPress experts” were not able to solve the problem.
Test #6 – The Free CloudFlare CDN
4x of the hosts I tested did not include any kind of CDN-
- SiteGround
- LiquidWeb
- HostGator
- Amazon EC2
And it is common advice for hosting companies to recommend you setup the free version of the CloudFlare CDN.
Supposedly this will help increase site speed.
But is that really true?
To find out I cloned the Blog Type 1 (image heavy) install to a new domain on each host and then activated the free CloudFlare CDN-
Then I tested each of these installs with GTMetrix from 7 different global locations.
And the results were very interesting…
WordPress Hosting Features Compared
So far we have focused purely on speed, reliabiliy and support.
But what about other hosting features…
As you can see:
There really isn’t that much difference between them on the face of it…
Except for price!
It’s only with the nitty gritty testing that you see huge differences in quality of service.
The Worst Things About Each Host
Regardless of which host you look at, each of them have their own cons.
The best wordpress hosting for me, isn’t necessarily the best WordPress hosting for you.
For example:
WPX Hosting is clearly the fastest, but if you need phone support…
They aren’t right for you.
So here is what I didn’t like about each of the managed WordPress hosting options-
- They are the most expensive
- +$10/month for UK hosting
- No email support – additional costs with Google Apps etc
- Long banned plugins list
- Majority owned by GoDaddy’s owner
- Poor ratings & very bad experience
WPX Hosting
- No phone support
- No Git support
- Servers are only available in USA and UK
- Back end control panel could be easier to use
Hostgator
- Terrible trust score
- No CDN on base plan
- No free SSLs, only paid
- No staging area
- Long list of banned plugins
- Automatic backups are a paid upgrade
- Terrible loading speed from non-US locations (see above tests)
Liquid Web
- Very expensive
- Not exactly the quickest based on my testing
- No CDN on base plan (but free Cloudflare CDN worked best of tested hosts here)
- No free email, costs $10 monthly extra + $1-$3 per email address
- No discounts for annual subscription
- No phone support
- Expensive for multiple websites
- No email support – additional costs with Google Apps etc
- List of banned plugins
- No live chat for pre-sales questions
- No free migration on the base plan
SiteGround
- Pricing virtually triples in year 2
- No staging area on base plan
- After first month, no monthly payment option
- No real CDN on base plan (free Cloudflare doesn’t count)
Amazon
- Not really a WordPress host
- You need to configure everything
- Very technical, requires command line
- No CDN
- No automatic backups
- Support is for their hardware only
- No cost saving reason to choose Amazon over dedicated WP hosts
Wrapping It Up
While it is usually true that
That isn’t true when it comes to choosing the best wordpress hosting.
WP Engine ($115/mo) & Liquid Web ($99/mo) are the most expensive but also failed to perform.
HostGator were also consistently poor.
That leaves SiteGround, Kinsta and WPX Hosting to consider.
Kinsta and WPX Hosting performed consistently faster than Siteground.
But Siteground did hold steady throughout all of my testing.
I suspect if you added a quality CDN to SiteGround rather than the free CloudFlare suggestion they would perform much better.
But that’s an extra cost and Kinsta & WPX Hosting already include good CDNs for free.
So if I was going to rank them…
The Best WordPress Hosting Is…
- WPX Hosting – Cheap but also the fastest with the best support
- Kinsta – Solid performance, fantastic support & the current host of this blog
- SiteGround – Budget friendly and fast but support was lacking
The great irony of these results is that…
WPX Hosting used to host this blog (I famously ditched WPEngine for them).
Then 2 years ago…
I moved the blogs hosting over to Kinsta because I needed-
- A server level backup/restore system
- A staging area
- Access to new technologies like HHVM (which is now deceased)
But:
Since I moved this blog to Kinsta…
The WPX Hosting team have added a bunch of new features such as-
- Their own backup/restore system
- A staging area
- A free custom CDN called “WPX Cloud”
In fact I still have 9 sites hosted with WPX Hosting including my SEO agency site and my black friday deals site (neither of which have WPX Cloud activated right now).
Where as Kinsta are currently hosting this blog and my SEO course.
But as they say:
The proof is in the pudding.
And based on all of my testing and personal experiences…
The best WordPress hosting is WPX Hosting
(assuming you don’t need phone support)
And remember this:
A faster website will result in-
- Higher search engine rankings
- Lower bounce rates
- Higher page view numbers
- Higher conversion rates
And most importantly…
So don’t waste your time and money with a slower host.

I only use GoDaddy for domains but have never heard anyone boast how good GoDaddys hosting or support is. WPXHosting doesnt have phone support (but they do have livechat) so if thats important to you – then look at SiteGround with a CDN like KeyCDN
Thomas, I have been a loyal GoDaddy customer for many years. Their products and support, at one time, was the gold standard. But sadly that has changed. The folks who answer the phone are still trying their best, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that the GoDaddy hosting platforms are crap. Particularly for WordPress.
I have moved all of my sites to WPXHosting and I had the same concern about the lack of a person to talk to…but I was so wrong.
First, the server speeds are incredible…primarily on mobile…page load speed is more important than ever…and, as this column proves, WPXHosting is really, really fast.
Second, the 24/7/365 live person via chat support is outstanding. I could not be happier.
I would highly recommend you forget about GoDaddy, or any other option, and run as fast as you can to WPXHosting. You will not be dissapointed.

If you approach WPX Support, they will arrange a free optimization analysis on your site and identify the speed bottleneck/s.
Typically it will be a specific plugin or theme issue and the ‘Waterfall’ on GTMetrix or Pingdom Tools can offer insights there.
If properly optimized, sites on WPX should achieve around 1 second or less loading around the world.

Yes WPX won in Sydney with the only sub-1 second loading time (0.8 seconds, see above) and the next closest was 2.6 seconds.
As I’m Australian, I insist on high WPX speeds there!

It should be noted that the Amazon EC2 setup was just “default” – you are essentially responsible for the entire server and have to manage/tune everything manually.

I have found Kualo to be pretty good, and their support is the best I have experienced.
I have never heard of Kualo but they look interesting – 24/7 support as well!

I’m with A2 hosting and am very happy with them. Up time is good, as is support. I joined 2 years ago with their sign up discount, so my renewal which is due now is at full price. I emailed and asked if there was any chance of a discount to renew as I wanted to stay with them and they gave me one!

Great article. I am using digitalocean and OVH and it work fine for me. It is much cheaper as compared these expensive services.
How have you configured them?
Siteground was a total waste for me, I exclusively used wordpress, never used any weird or whacky plugins. They kept notifying me of malware embedded in my installs and files. When i contacted them for help, they would sometimes say it’s cleared (after I’d done nothing) and other times they would tell me I need to hire someone to clean it for me.. which they could supply for an extra $195.
WPX Hosting would clean that up for you (take a look at their homepage they talk about it)

I had exactly the same issue with siteground. They only offered a link to another site which offered to clear the issue for stupid money. I had to keep asking for information to the files which had maleware on. I got so sick of them that I moved all my sites to another hosting company.

The hardware resources allocated for WPX hosting as mentioned in the article are wrong. According to their support, it is 128 MB ram / 1 core CPU for the Business plan. The next higher plan is 256 MB / 1.5 CPU and the next plan 512 MB / 2 cores. Hope that helps.
Been their customer for 2 years. Zero incidents. Support actually knows their shit and are actually very helpful. If you know what you’re doing you can actually have a real WordPress blog load in 2-3 seconds on their cheapest plan. Hint: Watch your page builders and plugins. They are the main culprits that actually kill all the performance.

Hi Eric, Just want to clarify something. It is 128 MB RAM per website on the Business Plan and the plan can hold up to 5 websites. I think this is why Matthew was told this number (640 MB).

I’m currently using siteground because i paid for 3 years in advance ( got a good deal). However, they have ramped the prices up since then and i wont be paying those crazy prices.

Agreed – they seem to push you into yet another Black Friday deal and then you have to transfer all your sites over! Not good.
But they are a brilliant host if you set everything up optimally and using Cloudflare with them actually harms the results so I stopped doing it.
I’ve had spectacular support from them, the best I’ve ever come across from a web host, so don’t know why you’re downing that part.
The number of sites I’ve got (300+) make the WPX option completely uneconomic for me, but I’ll keep an eye on their offers going forward.
I have never seen such research on hosts and wish to thank you for the assessments you have carried out. It’s brilliant and exceedingly helpful.

I used WPX hosting I have 35 sites with them, they have made my life so much easier I literally have saved at least 6/7 days a year messing around with things I just don’t need to.
Support is off the chart everything is dealt with straight away I will never be moving away from them thats for sure

Fastest host for word press i have ever used, nothing is too much hassle, and the patience of the support staff it amazing, i can be painful to deal with but they are always great.

I switched from Hostgator to WPX about a year ago and my websites have all shot up in the SERPs. I have not had any outages or other issues in that time. I did have a few questions about bandwidth, etc. and WPX’s response was very quick and answered all my questions in words I could understand.
Because of all the problems I had with Hostgator I have one site on 1&1. WPX is also far superior to them.

Great post, Matt. Thanks for taking the time to do such a comprehensive experiment. It pretty much backs up my own experience with WPX vs. Siteground. While both provide good performance, WPX support is far better. WPX has the best tech support of any web host I’ve used personally.

I heard about WPX and moved my burgeoning new sites over there after my annual renewal with Network Solutions tripled in cost. I confronted them (NS) about it and they offered a substantial discount to keep my business. Ooops too late guys! Charge me a reasonable fee at the beginning and don’t try to hose me because I am a long time customer (or sucker). If “I” did business like that – I would quit – cause it just ain’t right.
Tech wise, I am a complete newbie and don’t have the fortitude or interest to be really good at it – I’d rather be singing. But WPX helped me through the whole process – unbelievable really! I can’t say enough great things about their support. They are just fantastic!! You don’t need phone support when you have the light-speed chat support they have. They might corner the market in short order – I hope WPX can handle the massive growth they will experience in the next 5 years. Good for them.
Their support really is fantastic and it’s great to read that they don’t ever seem to drop the ball!
Another excellent article from Matthew. I recently migrated another site over to WPX, Luchezar from the WPX support team made it a simple process. The staff who man the Live Chat are also fast, friendly, and knowledgeable

Interesting article – I am in same situation – I moved our main site to Kinsta this year, but have a bunch of other sites still on WPX.
I followed a typically path from shared hosts (bad in so many ways) to VPS (fast but too complex) to WPX (fast and easy – I was in a happy place)
Then a couple of years ago I noticed that the admin bar on our main site had an extra option for caching. When I investigated I found w3 total cache installed, and an extra admin account I had never see before. After getting over the panic of thinking we had been hacked I realized that WPX had created themselves an admin account and installed the plug in on my live site without my permission.
So two big issues:
1) The data protection and security implications – (just think about this happening in the new GDPR world!)
2) W3 Total Cache DOES NOT work on that site. We have dynamic content. Simple things like changing Add to Cart to Already in Cart with a link to the cart when a product is in the cart. But there are products on the homepage, catalog, free resources pages, blog pages etc. A very quick test showed that W3 Total Cache just caches whichever it sees first which could leave everyone seeing ‘already in cart’ or someone else’s Woocommerce notice at the top of a page. Excluding all of affected page means that W3 Total Cache isn’t really caching any of the high traffic pages.
SO big fail for WPX – and I tried Kinsta. At the time they relied on page caching and I found some of the more dynamic pages just weren’t as fast, so after much soul searching I moved back to WPX (with assurances I would not have a repeat experience). Kinsta were reached out for feedback and listened hard!
Then earlier this year WPX carried out some major server updates. We were notified but the next day our site was unusable – from horribly slow to 503s, timeouts etc. Uptime robot showed a step increase in server response time even when the site was up. When I contacted support the responses were various variations on ‘its your fault for not installing W3 Total Cache’. After 2 days of a compromised website and fraught email exchanges trying to explain that my site was working just fine right up to their server updates without w3 total cache, and that it didn’t work for me anyway, I moved back to Kinsta.
I was delighted to find that they had implemented full stack caching (code, database, pages etc) and that this was baked into their stack and it just worked with Woocommerce and my dynamic content. I have had a few more outages than I would like in the past month or so but the Kinsta team have been very open to discussing that with me and I am actively monitoring it.
So here I am – our main site on Kinsta, but I still have stuff on WPX, and they did fix the problems and those sites run just fine. I would recommend either host – it just depends on your budget and needs. Just make sure that the caching works with YOUR site especially for e-commerce or membership sites.

Great fast stack – I love that every site is in its own ‘elastic’ container with its own FTP – even the staging sites. Reduces the risk of performance or security contamination between site (or me just being in the wrong directory on ftp and editing a live file!)
Great Dashboard – I love the one touch staging, and you can also clone a live site to another live site with a kinsta url if you want to do performance testing. There is full control over backups (daily automatic and manual) and the manual backup is almost instant – great for update testing/rollback.
Great Caching – its built in and it just works
Great support
More Expensive (especially if you have higher traffic)
No Email – you have to go elsewhere for that
Blocked plugins – although all for a reason (they interfere with caching or increase server load). I had to ditch Updraft (full backup every time is too intensive, use Manage WP for incremental. If Kinsta could offsite a weekly backup to the cloud and had cheaper hourly backups I wouldn’t use a plugin at all.)
Some expensive add ons. $100 per site per month for an hourly backup – come on! Manage WP does it for a fration of that.
NGINX platform – some plugins use htaccess so this might take a bit of work (setting up redirects, making sure Woo downloads are protected) but they will help you.

Generally great support with a couple of notable exceptions as detailed above.

We’ve been using webhostinghub.com for years (I know, shoot me in the foot). On our latest website, we decided to take optimization seriously.
It turns out you can only get so far on shared hosting :( so we started searching and were looking a tKinsta. Then I stumbled across this post and now I’m looking at WPX hosting too.
Between the two of them, which one do you say ha better support (don’t needphone as long as we can get live chat).
From your review, I can see that WPX is incrementally faster than Kinsta.
Yes shared hosting will only get you so far.
In terms of support, honestly moving this blog from WPX to Kinsta – my biggest worry was support.
And while Kinsta are great and have solved every issue I have thrown at them.

Dont just use GTMetrix, use pingdom and google insights – they do different things. Pingdom is a better option – IMO.
It also surely depends on what else is loaded on the shared servers. You may have used a shared server and got lucky with a server with a low load (or vice versa been stuck on a heavy loaded shared server)
CloudFlare CDN only works IF – you have international customers. A server in the UK and the customer in Australia cloudflare is great. A server in the UK and customers in the UK – shared server is faster – in my opinion and I did quite a few tests

I wish you have done this test 2 months ago when I had to change hosting because the old hosting was closing business. Being obsessed with speed and needing a lot of memory I wanted to choose Siteground. As I needed 50-70 G memory asked them if they can sell me 2xGogeek plan=2x30G but they refused me. Pretty stiff…
Anyway I have choosed Inmotion Hosting – VPS – 75G for 28 USD/month (1 year payment). I am also using free Cloudflare. I am happy so far, great support, and the speed is improved. My site loads under 2 secs. It could be better but I am happy with my speed.

I had my agency websites on a Siteground vps.
We also host a SaaS social app we built. After several upgrades the cost.became a big burden so we started looking for options.
We looked at liquid, and inmotion hoating. After a bit of research and talking to sales, we settled for an in motion deal. Four times.cheaper than Siteground.
We haven’t migrated anything yet, but I’m eager to do so.
I’ve.seen good.scores for in motion. Maybe you can check them out and expand your blog.

I got WPX after reading this post for one of client website and everything worked out great (speed, support & transfer).
I went in to update a long page post from back-end (only one I have in the website about partnerships & sponsoring) and noticed I keep on getting a blank screen. When I contacted the support they told they have a ***memory limit*** which is not written anywhere on the pricing/plan page.
Customer support staff gave this explanation.
“The plans and pricing page includes the most essential information. Adding all of the server specs would make it less user friendly.”
However I think memory limit is is an important factor when it comes to hosting.
There is no wrong with limits but a pricing plan should say everything clearly because now I need to explain to my client why the recommend hosting plan by me for yearly plan I transferred has imposed limits on the hosting even-tough limit is not shown on the pricing page and why they are paying more money compared to siteground wordpress hosting when the page load fine there.

I’ve been with WPX since back when they were still TrafficPlanet. I’ve always appreciated the quick response I receive from my service inquiries. I almost did not choose them simply due to the lack of phone support, but I have come to the realization that with other services that have phone support, I spend a lot of time on hold, whereas, with WPX, I open chat and can get most questions resolved within a few minutes.
I moved from a Godaddy hosting to WPX, so I knew speed could only improve. It didn’t improve as much as I hoped, but some of that might be the theme I have that seems to carry a lot of overhead (Avada). Some time ago, I went to the effort to employ a CDN from Amazon in hopes of speeding things up. A few months after doing all that work (with very meager gains in performance), WPX announces their own CDN. Well, phooey.
Now I am considering the effort to backtrack away from Amazon’s CDN to use WPX’s. I would rather use WPX, but I don’t know what that switch will involve. So instead, I do nothing. :-(
I feel like I am sitting on a thoroughbred in the starting gate at Kentucky Derby… horses nostrils are flared and snorting, muscles wound tight as springs waiting for the starting pistol, suddenly the gates burst open and they’re off in a flurry of snot, sweat, and dirt clods… except me… My pony limps out of the gate with hobbled hooves.

It shouldnt be anymore difficult than disabling a plugin and clicking a couple of buttons in the WPXHosting member area.

As the Amazon EC2 testing above illustrates, it is not a question of specific resources for successful hosting but rather how well tuned and optimized that hosting is for your needs.
When properly configured, huge sites with large traffic perform flawlessly on WPX (we run many and also we have no automatic cutoff bandwidth limits though you will be contacted by WPX Support if there is a massive traffic spike that exceeds your plan limits).
Issues arise when webmasters insist on a specific plugin that has crazy request levels or are coded by a programmer who has no understanding of server resources. That’s partly why WPEngine has such a long banned plugin list.
If you use a specific membership plugin, please approach WPX Support and they will verify with our Optimization team whether that could be a potential issue or not.

Hey Matt, thank you for this useful experiment, I think you forgot to include Hostinger, the newest player in the web hosting industry and the best from my opinion so far, got a shared premium hosting plan from them for only 50$ a year, installed a free Cloudflare free CDN along with the W3 total cache plugin and I have been getting constant 2 to 3 seconds load time, not too shabby given the fact that you are only paying 4$ per month, I think it would be a good option for low budgets, check my results https://imgur.com/a/rNh2HQC

I have been following Matthew for more than 5 years, and everything he has shared has been gold. Especially about moving to WPX Hosting.
Like Matthew (he doesn’t know it but I’ve made him my mentor), I too hosted my sites at wpengine. Then there was the fact that they provide no email service (an important deciding point not clearly disclosed by them).
I don’t need to expand on Matthews clearly explain lack of expert WordPress support. But I digress.
Moving my sites to WPX Hosting has been a blessing to say the least.
Their WordPress knowledge is the best I’ve encounter, and get this. Their response time is less than 5 minutes when you submit a ticket, and their Live chat is not monitored by sales reps, they are the real thing, and when they can’t help you they escalate creating a Trouble ticket for you passing on the entire chat history so that you don’t have to start from scratch.
OH yeah baby. AND get this….
My sites are loading in less than 2 secs.

I think so for wordpress if we get godaddy or namecheap hosting with coupons it would be cheaper for the first year but after that it would much more costly but the point is reliablity …. You can trust these with life
