What I Have Read This Month – July 2013

This is the 8th post in the What I have Read This Month series which shares all of my favourite articles over the past month.

There is an awful lot of junk to sort through every month so here are the best bits according to me!

What I Have Read This Month

Some great content this month from the world of social & SEO including a negative SEO attack on Matt Cutts!

Let’s get it started!

SEO & Link Building

One of the best tutorials this month is this one where Matt Cutts explains precisely how to rank #1!

In fact Mr. Cutts features pretty heavily this month as he explains why duplicate content won’t hurt you & to be careful when cross linking your domains.

He also did this link building interview with Eric Enge.

Unfortunately though Martin Mcdonald decided to launch a negative SEO attack against Matt Cutts own blog. Got cleaned up pretty quickly though ;) Shame that doesn’t happen for us all huh ^^

There have been a couple of technical posts looking at the biggest Google algo update this year which then rolled into a 10 day Panda update expected to end on the 28th July.

We also see how the WordPress comment system screws up SEO and take a deep dive into Google’s Knowledge Graph results.

The confessions of a blackhat PPC marketer are very interesting but not as interesting as these 10 link building tools you’ve probably never heard of!

Social Media

Did you know about these 9 ways to launch a product with social media? You can build on this further by using Twitter for targeted outreach.

Make sure you have optimised your site with Twitter Cards though.

I recently spruced up my Google+ profile (do a search for my name and see the magic for yourself!) and am planning to do the same for LinkedIn this week.

Google+ steals the social media limelight with some new plugins for displaying profiles, pages & badges!

Here are some great tips to help you grow your engagement on Google+ and you should learn about the most powerful Google+ tool you are not using!

The KnowEm team released a pretty cool social media optimisation tool although it doesn’t work that great on my blog. Guessing it will get better though!

General Marketing / Conversion

Let’s start with something useless like the best 404 pages from around the internet!

Then get to work fixing your landing page mistakes to increase conversions immediately.

Did you know about these 8 great marketing tools & resources from Google themselves.

Charles also published the top 50 internet marketing blogs according to him – nice to see I’m on the list ^^ Linkbait 101.

General Stuff

If you are still looking for a Google Reader replacement then check out Feedly. It has great mobile apps and integrates nicely with IFTTT recipes.

I’ve also put a lot of time into learning Mexican Spanish using Memrise which is freakin awesome by the way – if you have ever wanted to learn another language spend 10 minutes with that. The way it teaches you is incredible and has stuck with me.

Other things I have done is use these Chrome extensions – specifically Flewent and download Spanish subtitles for films/tv episodes.

Hablo un poco de espanol ahora!

You have 25,000 mornings in your adult life – are you making the most of them?

So how many private proxies would you use for so many campaigns, Like do you use 1 IP for 1 Campaign and would you use that proxy over again for another one? I would like to buy private proxies but am wondering how many would I need to do lets say, 30 campaigns at a time.

When does google flag you with that proxy that you are searching with over and over again.

I don’t track it at that level – but 10 semi dedicateds per project is a safe bet!

    Hey Matt,

do you not check your forum? ask 2 questions that have still gone unanswered plus your forum is getting spammed

    • July 25th, 2013 at 10:25 am

      Hi Jason,

Been drowning in work – I’ll make it the next task!!!

also, why in the h*** would you link to Charles Floate? You realise he has been scamming people over on BHW? he buys services from other members and puts in a refund request with paypal straight away.

    • July 25th, 2013 at 10:25 am

      Got some more details/links?

Oh you mean the 1 thread from a moderator that banned my account after I’d messaged him 3 times about not delivering his service and has done it to 6 other members?
Feel free to look at my iTrader with 11 reps on there compared to 1 thread (Which also has other people saying they’ve dealt with me on it and not had a problem).
One corrupt mod speaks for itself, I did a post about it on my last income report (July 2013) if you want to actually find out what happened, also ask “I do SEO” the BHW mod that’s investigating BigBuddy for corruption :)

P*** sites are HUGE :P but maybe he joking? Google would not like that, if your site is linked from a p*** site? lol

  7. 7.24.2013

Thanks for sharing, I guess I have to take my time to study your guidelines. Will also like your facebbok page.
