Monthly Income, Growth & Traffic Report – November 2015

PLEASE SHARE

This is the 38th income report as part of the zero backlink experiment.

Every month I will publish a post like this one that shows you how this blog is progressing and everything I have done across the month to get it there.

These reports will help me track my own progress while teaching you what to do and more importantly what not to do.

What I Have Done In November

This month saw the official launch of my first major product which was the culmination of nearly a year of work.

I also took my first day off in over 2 months and have slipped into ‘maintenance mode’ while I recharge my battery’s.

November also saw Black Friday/Cyber Monday which when combined with my product launch makes for the best month of income I have ever had through this blog.

Content Creation

Last month I published a total of 5 posts which has dropped to 4 this month which is precisely on target as I have worked to reduce the post frequency in the past few months.

We started the month with these 5 simple steps to generate business leads online for any business.

That was followed up with 10 quick ways to increase website traffic step by step for anyone that is struggling with that.

Other than those we just had the regular income report roundup post and I didn’t get round to writing the best of internet marketing feature this month.

Product Launch Success

On the 2nd of November I made my first premium training product available to buy for just a few days.

It was a very nervous few days because everything I had worked for across the past year rested on those few days of sales.

On top of that I had never actually launched a product before which came with its own set of challenges from sound tech all the way through to managing multiple merchant accounts.

However the response to the training course was awesome and I’m already getting testimonials of success from my students.

I haven’t decided if I am going to release details on the final sales numbers but between you and me, it did very well.

Black Friday Madness

The only other thing I have done this month in terms of work was to launch my Black Friday deals site.

Over the past month I’ve been getting in touch with lots of merchants to find out what Black Friday deals they were running and twisting arms to try and arrange some exclusives.

Unfortunately I made a few mistakes with the execution but all in all – it was a great success.

Screenshot_120215_090922_AM

The site had over 12,000 visitors in just a few days and gives me the perfect platform to build on next year.

Went To Panama

After spending 2 months working every day solid I decided to spend a couple of days doing absolutely nothing in Bocas Del Toro, Panama.

bdt

It was really hard to ‘switch off’ so to speak, it takes a few days for the brain hamster to spin down properly!

For some daft reason I decide getting a 10 hour bus ride there would be a good idea. It wasn’t, we flew back in less than an hour.

Crunching The Numbers

So let’s get our hands dirty and take a look at what my lack of attention to the blog has done to the important metrics.

Visitor Statistics

Traffic dropped from 55,414 (1,787/day) last month to 47,319 (1,577/day) this month which is a fair drop off!

This is because I have spent the last few months of my time focused else where and we are moving into the slower months in the marketing world.

analytics-over

Most Popular Content

The 10 traffic methods post stole the show this month by a small margin.

Not far behind was my how to start a blog and make money tutorial which is a long time pillar of the blog.

analytics-tcontent

Top Traffic Sources

Like last month Not much has changed really in terms of the top traffic sources this month.

analytics-trsouces

Search Engine Traffic

Traffic from Google saw a small drop off this month from 39,912 (1,330/day) compared to 37,603 (1,253/day) last month.

analytics-kwss

YouTube Views

I lost all of my historical YouTube views because of changes I made to the branding – so I keep track of them separately.

YouTube views grew took a small hit this month from 23,297 to 21,918 which also had an impact on total minutes watched dropping from 119,825 to 110,532.

youtube-statistics

Social Shares

Important Note: This month Twitter stopped showing the actual share count which makes reporting on social shares from Twitter impossible.

Because of that the total social shares across Facebook, Twitter and Google+ dropped from 84,971 to just 47,303.

  • Google+ – 17,514 (17,356 last month)
  • Twitter – 0 (38,300 last month)
  • Facebook – 29,789 (29,315 last month)

Subscribers

The most important metric on the entire blog – earning a subscription from someone is the ultimate form of commitment and conversion.

This month brought 2,181 new subscribers which is a small drop from last months 2,376.

There are now a total of 126,390 subscribers across all of the various channels!

  • E-mail – 956 (1,300 last month) / Total: 67,608
  • Twitter – 303 (297 last month) / Total: 10,200
  • YouTube – 295 (312 last month) / Total: 9,431
  • Facebook – 520 (463 last month) / Total: 18,708
  • Google+ – 10 (6 last month) / Total: 17,879
  • RSS – 97 (-2 last month) / Total: -2

Income Report

Here are the numbers you really want to see-

Affiliate Earnings

ATTENTION: Learn My Secrets With Instant Access To The Income Report Archive

Expenses

Consultation Earnings

I separate out the consultation earnings from the affiliate earnings. The blog drives affiliate sales directly and whilst it does generate consultation leads these are separate projects in their own right.

I didn’t take on any consultation work this month which results in zero consultation earnings.

Other Income

I’m working on another project right now that is part of the blog but not something I’m ready to talk about publicly yet or maybe ever.

I will declare the income here though as it wouldn’t be possible without the blog and ‘technically’ it is affiliate income.

This month that has grown to $12,127.43 which is a small step up from last months $12,008.96.

Earnings Total

  • Affiliate Income – $23,070.90
  • Consultation Income – $00.00
  • Other Income – $12,127.43
  • Expenses – $7,645.57

Grand Total: $27,552.76 / £18,444.37 ($25,024.85 / £16,188.93 last month)

Side Note: The expenses list the cost of Facebook & Twitter ads which were actually used to promote my product launch and the Black Friday site however the income from the product launch is not reported here.

Signing Off

November was a great month all around, I finally managed to launch my product which was a huge weight off my shoulders and now I can take some time to relax.

Over the next few weeks I plan on doing the bare minimum possible to keep things ticking over while putting a plan of attacks together for the next 12 months.

I’ve already got quite the list but that needs developing properly and I need to put a survey together for all of you guys because ultimately – you are the boss :)

Thank you to everyone that has helped me reach my goals – I couldn’t do it without you, the reader!

Wow great month! I have one question. Now that you have launched your own training course, do you feel it is more profitable in the long run or do you think the value of training courses would decrease like with eBooks?

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:23 pm

I do feel like that yes which is why I put a lot of extra things in the course that enhance the entire expire including some direct mail surprises.

  2. 12.3.2015

Wow, very impressive month. The product income has me very curious lol. Hope it went went well.

Would be very interesting to see how you ran the Facebook ads/ twitter ads.

PLEASE PUT THEM BACK UP MATT. come on dude. ive asked 4 times. put it back up. i cant afford your course. sure you give back to those who havent made it as big as you. it was so useful. just get your VA to stick them on a utube link, thats all. just the bit about PA and DA, think it was vid 3

        • December 17th, 2015 at 3:52 pm

It’s not as easy as that sorry, especially where I live with my internet connection uploading them to YouTube is a massive pain in the a***. 4x videos at 1gb-2gb each at 20kb/s which makes my internet connection unusable while they upload (and that assumes the connecton doesnt drop out) just isn’t feasible at the moment sorry.

  4. 12.3.2015

Great Month for me too Matthew. Just wondering How did you ranked No.1 your niche site internetmarketing . blackfriday . Since i was ranking for 3-4 , Your site just went straight to No. 1.

    Please Matthew got few questions.
    1. If I want to Guest post on your blog how will I send it for your review and consideration.

    2. Also will Guest Posters be allowed to put their affiliate link on their post.

  6. 12.3.2015

    12.3.2015

    P**** man! That’s awesome.

I have been following your blog keenly now and I am impressed with how things are panning out for you. I aim to be blogging full time but I am stuck, my blog generates only $100 in a couple of months.

Honestly I don’t know where I go wrong, given that I have a rich niche.

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:19 pm

I would focus on increasing your email subscriber conversion rate and engagement funnel on the back end

  10. 12.3.2015

Congrats on your success Matthew, very well deserved .. I’ll add for anyone reading this >> the PBN Course is Worth Every Penny << Cheers!

    Hi Matthew

One question, how do you track all those different affiliate incomes? have you got a managed, central way or do you have to login to each one, as most of those seem to have their own schemes rather than networks?

    Thanks

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:18 pm

I login to each one manually which is lots of fun…

    12.3.2015

I am impressed with your figures.
    Good work keep it up.

  13. 12.3.2015

Out of your ad expenses, which platform do you feel offers a better ROI on social ads?

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:16 pm

They both offer great ROI but Facebook steals it for me, but both are great.

    12.3.2015

Have always appreciated your candour with your stats and earnings…really gives an insight into the workings of a popular blog. Keep up the good work!

  15. 12.4.2015

    Matt,

Absolutely fabulous once again. Can I get some of your secret sauce?

    Well done,
    Roisin

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:15 pm

Work harder than you have ever worked in your life. If you have time to eat, go to the toilet, sleep more than 4 hours per day or speak to friends – you are not working hard enough.

  16. 12.5.2015

    Hello Matthew!

Congrats for another amazing month!! It is good that your Black Friday website got 12k visits! I am sure for the next year you will make even better and learn from those small mistakes.

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:11 pm

There is no substitute for hard work :) (unfortunately)

  18. 12.6.2015

Waw!!! When I will earn thhis much of money from my blog..? Very useful information about your business

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:10 pm

When you have spent 2-3 solid years of starting work at 6am and finishing at 10pm with a 30 minute break for lunch taking 0.5-1 days off per month.

      • December 9th, 2015 at 9:44 pm

        Sir,

I am working guy. Blogging is my part-time activity. Any how thanks for your suggestions. This is true that your blog is benchmark to all blogs and bloggers.

        • December 17th, 2015 at 3:39 pm

Well when I had a real job my daily schedule looked like this-

          6am-8am – My own projects
8am-9am – Get ready for work and commute
          9am – Start work
1pm-2pm – Eat lunch as quick as possible and work on my own projects
          2pm-6pm – Normal work
6pm-7pm – Get home and eat asap
7pm-1am – Work on my own projects

Even with a full time job I could squeeze between 8 and 10 hours per day in on my own projects.

There is no substitute for grueling hard work and sacrifice. It all depends on if you want to be a working guy forever or not :)

  19. 12.6.2015

Great Going Matthew, I wish you all the best, just wondering you didnt mention the Aweber expenses?

And wouldnt it be un fair if you mention your Facebook ads expensed for product launch and black friday site but u didnt mention the profits?

Anyway great going, keep it up! :)

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:08 pm

Yeah my Aweber expenses are absorbed by a much larger list with my primary business and this blogs list doesnt really make any dent in that so I don’t include it here.

And yeah I could mention the income from those projects and perhaps I will in the future, but not at the moment :)

      • Charlie
        December 12th, 2015 at 11:11 am

Just curious, and you may have been asked this before, but if this isn’t your ‘primary business’, why do you bother with it all? And when you talk about all the hours you work on it, what about your primary business? You make it sound like you spend all your time working on your blog…is that not the case? Would be cool to get some transparency.

        • December 17th, 2015 at 3:11 pm

Well it started because of this http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/experiments/google-webmaster-guidelines-experiment/ and then snowballed and it turns out I quite enjoy having my own personal ground where if I want to tell someone to go f*** themselves, I can and I do :) The blog has also opened up so many doors that wouldnt have been open otherwise and continues to do so daily.

My time is divided up based on where it is needed at any given time and once you have put in the hard graft/ground work to get a business off the ground you can replace yourself (or start to buy your life back one hour at a time it seems) with someone else then it’s just a case of monthly reviews/management.

  20. 12.7.2015

    Wow Massive Income report Mathew!!

    • December 8th, 2015 at 2:04 pm

Thanks man :) Yeah people get dazzled by the numbers but that is life – no one ever see’s the work!

  21. Sean
    12.7.2015

    Matthew,
I’m addicted to your blog. I began bookmarking my favorite posts, but eventually purged the list and just enter your site manually into my browser on a weekly basis.
I really love the long-form, detailed information. It’s helped me to overcome what I call ‘affiliate-itis’, a condition where people put vague, meaningless words on pages in order to try to get some rankings.

As an idea for your New Year’s plans, I was wondering if you could put together a round-up/tutorial about different strategies for approaching a new market. Your 6-figure, zero backlink post is by far my most favorite. During one of your ‘Best of IM’ roundups, you left a link to an article by Matt Barby detailing his method for launching a new project. I’ve also found another post like that from SEONick. I think a post like that could be a great way to cross-promote some of your older tutorials and ninja tactics, and could be an absolute monster piece of content that simply breaks the internet.

    • December 8th, 2015 at 1:56 pm

      Hey Sean,

So almost like the 6 figure post, but more strategy based along with ‘what I should have done’ learnings integrated?

      • Sean
        December 8th, 2015 at 7:09 pm

Yes! Your 6 figure post is awesome. Retouching on that subject with extra points made about the importance of choices you made. Hosting issues, WP theme, traffic particularly.
Your blog’s mission was “whenever people ask for advice
In forums, my tutorials will be shared to help”.
Someone else’s mission might be “to be the most authoritative blog on Doctor Who”. In which case, that might call for different methods of content promotion.
So yes, maybe a “Top 10” about what really matters when starting a new project, as well as some contrast with alternatives for budgets/tastes/time commitments.

        • December 17th, 2015 at 3:45 pm

Thanks Sean that is very helpful! I could probably spend the rest of my life writing something like that haha but I do plan to update that post in the near future along with some other blogging getting started resources.

  22. You are killing it every month. So is your affiliate income links just embedded through out your tutorials? I wish I could do affiliate income like you.

I only made $247 in November but ive only been blogging for 6 months and am not offering any services. I need to!!

    • December 8th, 2015 at 1:51 pm

      Hey Alex,

Instead of focusing on how much you make, focus on how many new subscribers you can get each month

      • December 8th, 2015 at 1:55 pm

Will do! In the 6 months I have been blogging so far I have been able to gather 332 subscribers which to me is a lot! I will put more effort into growing this though. I want to at least double all my stats in the next 6 months.

        Thanks for the info!

        • December 8th, 2015 at 2:02 pm

Also don’t forget your email autoresponder on the back end :)

  23. 12.9.2015

Great work and income report (as always).

You may have answered this already (as it has been a while since I’ve been here) but do you run an agency as well? I seem to remember seeing one a while back.

Obviously the blog does very well on the front end with affiliate income and everything but surely the ROI on the backend with a done for you service is where you’d generate a real payday.

Also considering all the SEO content, do you run any outside IM SEO companies/lead gen sites?

Keep up the great work and appreciate your transparency.

    • December 17th, 2015 at 3:28 pm

Let’s just say I have lots of fingers in lots of pies :)

  24. 12.14.2015

Where can I buy the PBN Course mate?

  25. 12.24.2015

Thanks for this post! I am in a completely different business, but I find always inspiration for my own work and I wish you guys all the best, you’re great!

  26. 1.1.2016

    Wow great month!
I just wanted to earn 200 dollars per month , but difficult too .
