This is the 22nd income report as part of the zero backlink experiment.

Every month I will publish a post like this one that shows you how this blog is progressing and everything I have done across the month to get it there.

These reports will help me track my own progress while teaching you what to do and more importantly what not to do.

What I Have Done In June

June was my 28th birthday so I decided to take a couple of weeks off and a friend flew out to join in the celebrations.

Needless to say I didn’t really get all that much work done during those 2 weeks and it’s been tricky getting back into the swing of things since.

But I have managed to launch & catch up on a lot of things that were dragging their feet for the past couple of months so now it’s time to kick it into high gear!

Content Creation

Last month I managed to churn out 8 posts but this month things have looked pretty bleak.

I kicked off the month by updating the blackhat SEO tools spam case study showing the continued growth of the site after Panda 4 purely built with spam.

With June seeing my 28th birthday in I shared that with you guys as well!

Other than those posts we just had the regular best of internet marketing & income report roundup posts.

Blog Features

The blog had a number of features this month including some creative world cup link bait & Charles Floates 1 year case study.

I was also included in an analysis of how different bloggers make money along with how different people achieved success.

Preparing For Affiliate Summit

aff-sumI’m going to be making my first ever stage appearance at the upcoming Affiliate Summit.

I tend to avoid conferences because every one I have been to has been nothing more than a pitch fest, all the speakers just pitch products/services to you and I never found any value in that.

But Affiliate Summit is very different! I attended Affiliate Summit for the first time in January and had an absolute blast – speakers are banned from pitching anything, it is just pure content & actionable advice throughout.

Not to mention the wild partys they throw! This time around there will be live performances from an Academy Award Winning artist along with a Grammy Award winning act that has released multiple Platinum and Platinum+ albums selling more than 30 million copies worldwide.

And that is JUST ONE of the crazy partys that will go down during the event, all of which is included in the price of your ticket!

So if you want to attend sessions with 97 industry leading experts, meet some of the most influential bloggers/affiliates in the industry & hit some crazy wild private party’s – Get your ticket now!

Be sure to check out the full agenda to get a taste of the various sessions.

Buy One Get One Free

Until July 6th you can bring a friend to Affiliate Summit for free! They are offering buy one get one free on all tickets for the next few days.

So if you want to come along, then make sure you claim your ticket now – spaces are limited and they usually sell out!

When you register your pass you will be given the option to add a free one during checkout.

Exclusive Reader Bonus

For any of my readers that attend the summit and buy their tickets through my affiliate link I will be hosting an extra special bonus for you.

We will all get together privately for food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere so we can talk everything internet together! If you want me to critique your site/campaign or ask me any questions 1 on 1 – this is the time to do it!

Please note that if you want to attend my session at Affiliate Summit you will need a VIP pass or above – but my bonus is available to anyone that buys a ticket through my link.

When you have done that drop me an email for more details.

Birthday Gifts Galore

To celebrate my 28th birthday a friend came over from the UK for 2 weeks of crazyness!

It was amazing to see all of you guys pitching in with birthday beers & pizza!

In total you bought 58 beers and 4 pizzas which ultimately led to my destruction! Thank you to all of you guys for that – it touched my special place :P

Hangover aside it was a great 2 week break giving me time to explore my new country of residence, getting used to driving on the wrong side of the road, zip-lining, climbing, tubing, eating, drinking, getting lost, fishing & more!

It really was a much needed break after what has been a stressful move to a strange new country!

New Long Term Case Study

Last month it turned out that John Chow was in Costa Rica for the MTTB platinum event while I was there. I invited him out fishing for the day and he brought along 2 friends – JunJun Li & Terry Lamb.

I spent some time talking to them about how they made money online and all of them told me their success story with MTTB.

It was interesting to speak with people that had little to no experience online but were making huge amounts of money with the 21 step training system.

I spent some time researching MTTB and read mixed responses from people online, but after meeting a number of people in real life that were making huge amounts of income with the system I decided to give it a shot.

After all – if they can do it, so can I.

At the moment I’m working through the 21 step training myself so the jury is still out on MTTB, but I will be publishing a full case study in a few months when I have had time to experiment with the system.

So far though I am pretty impressed!

What Is MTTB?

MTTB is essentially a 21 step course that teaches you how to make commissions on high ticket products.

You get a personal coach to call on Skype to guide you through the system and answer any questions you have. The system forces you to physically speak with the coach to progress through the steps – so make sure you have Skype and a microphone handy!

There are also daily training lessons, videos and webinars for you to take part in.

It is basically a full training system & sales funnel in a box which they teach you how to drive traffic to and profit. They guarantee you will make a commission within 30 days of completing the steps or they’ll give you $500!

I’m half way through the 21 steps at the moment so keep an eye out for my case study in a few months!

You can apply now though if you don’t want to wait for that – which would actually help with the case study :)

Finding Buried Treasure With An Affiliate Audit

One of the things that has been on my to do list for a very long time is a complete affiliate audit.

Basically this means going through every affiliate program I work with and checking-

  1. If links are still active
  2. If there are any payments due
  3. If there is any opportunity for increased commissions

This took me nearly 2 full days to complete but it was surprising to see just how many merchants had changed the affiliate networks they used making the current affiliate links worthless and not tracking any commissions!

auditWhere I had driven a decent number of sales I also emailed the merchants to ask if there were any opportunities for an increased commission or an exclusive discount that I could promote.

I only finished this process late last night but so far there have been a few responses offering both exclusive discounts AND increased commissions which is awesome!

But the most surprising thing was just how much commission had not been paid out even though I had earned it! It took a long time to cross reference reported earnings with actual payments but let me tell you – it was worth it.

In total I was due $2,207.58! That’s a staggering amount of money to have earned but not actually be paid out to me.

So if you have never done an affiliate audit of your own – I suggest you make it a top priority!

It’s not often you find $2.2k, get increased commissions & secure exclusive discounts in one crack of the whip.

LeadPages Honesty +1,000

I have been using LeadPages for a while now, it really is an awesome bit of kit. It was a pivotal part of these 2,691% & 2,851% ROI campaigns as well as this landing page experiment.

I use it for RankCracker, my course & to drive email subscribers.

At the start of May I hosted a LeadPages webinar that had some really good feedback – unfortunately some of you guys missed out.

So when the LeadPages team emailed me to say they were doing another webinar I posted about it on my social media channels.

I didn’t really give it that much thought but the next day I got this email-

How about that!?!?

They could have easily swept that mistake under the rug and no one would of known! But instead the LeadPages team reached out to everyone to let them know they made a mistake.

Not only that – but they provided financial compensation for their mistake!

It is rare to see this kind of action in the affiliate space especially when they could have ignored it and kept all the money knowing no one would be able to find out.

So kudos to the LeadPages team for doing that – that tells me everything I need to know about the company right there!

Forum Catch Up

One of the things I have been very slack on the past couple of months is staying active in my forum.

I have had a number of complaints from people about that and it had started to get spammed so I dedicated a full day to catching up and personally answering every single thread/question.

I can only apologise for that and now I have caught up on everything after moving country I will be much more active on the forum.

Sorry guys :(

Crunching The Numbers

So let’s get our hands dirty and take a look at what my hard work has done for me this month.

Visitor Statistics

Traffic has dropped this month to 43,347 (1,444/day) from last months 48,936 (1,578/day). I suppose that’s what you get for taking 2 weeks off!

This month I’m hoping to drive it past the 50,000 mark for the first time – I’ve got some awesome content planned for you all to help with that :)

Traffic Statistics Analytics

Most Popular Content

Like last month the Panda 4 spam site case study/tutorial took the top spot with the GSA Search Engine Ranker coming in behind.

It’s also great to see that one of my very first tutorials on SEO tiers explained is still holding it’s own along with one of my favourite link building tricks.

Most Popular Content

Top Traffic Sources

As always Google is sending the most traffic but the top 10 traffic sources remains largely the same as last month.

The only exception is that StumbleUpon has dropped out of the top 10 but that had a 60% bounce rate and average session duration of 6 seconds so I’m not going to miss it to be honest.

Although traffic is down this month, overall traffic quality is up in terms of bounce rate and pages per visit.

Traffic Sources Analytics

Search Engine Traffic

Google traffic increased to 33,976 (1,096 per day) last month so it’s great to see that grow gently this month to 34,958 (1,165 per day).

YouTube Views

I lost all of my historical YouTube views because of changes I made to the branding – so I keep track of them separately.

Last month saw a total of 24,575 views which has dropped off slightly to 22,604 this month. I suspect that is due to my lack of posting new videos recently which I will fix up this month.

Interestingly though minutes watched increased from 127,475 to 132,703 which means even though there were less views, people were more engaged with my videos.

Social Shares

The blog has seen a total of 45,565 shares across Facebook, Twitter and Google+ this month compared to 44,147 last month.

That is a very small increase compared to previous months which I guess is down to the lack of posts this month.

  • Google+ – 12,130 (11,531 last month)
  • Twitter – 20,006 (19,552 last month)
  • Facebook – 13,429 (13,064 last month)

My Forum Statistics

This month I got back on top of the forum and spent time answering every single question past and present.

I also went through every single thread and cleaned up all of the spam I could find – there was quite a lot. Although it does seem like there have been a bunch of spam registrations this month.

I’m going to put measures in place to stop that happening.

There were 170 new replies on the forum and after removing all the spam there were actually 50 less topics in total.

If you haven’t joined the forum yet, get involved!

  • Users: 14,980 (5,976 last month)
  • Topics: 1,122 (1,172 last month)

The most important metric on the entire blog – earning a subscription from someone is the ultimate form of commitment and conversion.

This month brought 5,319 new subscribers across various channels which is a slight drop from last month’s 6,042.

There are now a total of 59,723 subscribers across all of the different channels.

  • E-mail – 1,628 (2,900 last month) / Total: 28,212
  • Twitter – 187 (212 last month) / Total: 3,832
  • YouTube – 246 (299 last month) / Total: 5,028
  • Facebook – 67 (360 last month) / Total: 10,595
  • Google+ – 2,811 (2,067 last month) / Total: 11,450
  • RSS – -160 (204 last month) / Total: 606

Income Report

Here are the numbers you really want to see-

Affiliate Earnings

ATTENTION: Learn My Secrets With Instant Access To The Income Report Archive

Consultation Earnings

I separate out the consultation earnings from the affiliate earnings. The blog drives affiliate sales directly and whilst it does generate consultation leads these are separate projects in their own right.

This month I linked up with 2 previous clients to help them out with a few pointers generating a total of $926.23

Other Income

I’m working on another project right now that is part of the blog but not something I’m ready to talk about publicly yet or maybe ever.

I will declare the income here though as it wouldn’t be possible without the blog and ‘technically’ it is affiliate income.

In total 4 people have gone through this which has earned a total of $1,100 this month.

There is also an additional $2,100 outstanding at the moment which could come any day now along with another $2,000 potential. If those come in it will be reflected in next months report, but the seeds are more than planted!

Earnings Total

  • Affiliate Income – $14,750.81
  • Consultation Income – $926.23
  • Other Income – $1,100.00
  • Expenses – $49.99

Grand Total: $16,727.05 / £9,752.76 ($14,345.48 / £8,557.31 last month)

With all that said, this month has been a record breaking month for the blog in terms of income at $16,727.05 beating the previous record of $16,400.92 set in December 2013.

Not only that but the blog has now broken the $200,000 barrier earning a total of $202,855.33!

Signing Off

It has certainly been a rocky couple of months for me with moving country and trying to adjust to the new lifestyle and language.

Taking 2 weeks off for my birthday was much needed to de-stress after everything. Planning and preparing for a move like that and then actually doing it while trying to run various businesses is much more taxing than I thought.

But with that break comes a record earning month at $16,727.05 which takes the blog to a total of $202,855.33 since it launched! That is the 3rd time in a row I have taken a long break and income increased, weird.

I can now regain my focus on the blog completely refreshed and drive it forward on all fronts. I’m still working on my course but have some awesome content planned for you this coming month.

Stay tuned folks – you won’t regret it!

I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for joining me on this journey.

Wow! Impressive, I have learnt a lot from you over the last 6 months and have been an active subscriber, although I have not contributed to your earnings as I have not purchased from your affiliate links before as I am a cheap b****** that want to spend as little as possible, that day may come soon so WATCH OUT ;)

Anyway, I had an idea of using 0% costs to start earning online. I got a blog from blogger, then found a free TLD from Freenom (.ga .ml .tk .cf), then pointed to Google servers. Now hosted on google, with 99% Uptime, and Blogspot is great, just that I have to mess with code a lot which is tiring but increasing my knowledge. Planned on starting a Student orientated blog, with a forum and drive free traffic to it from another student blog. It will contain CPA links that I think students will be interested in. Do you recommend doing this with BLOGSPOT?

18 year old UK student here… Sort of Friends with the G** OF SEO :)

Ahhh well its not all about the money, for example all of the below contributes to the profit figure-

      A full time subscription
      Social shares (Google+/Twitter etc)
User generated content (comment/forum post/post ideas)
New traffic by sharing my content with others
New traffic from telling your friends in the pub
      Affiliate link clicks
      Affiliate sales

So I bet you have contributed to at least one of those – thank you for that :)

Personally I would say invest the small amount of cash in a domain and hosting because if things go well, you will hit a ceiling with blogspot very soon and be kicking yourself for having to start from scratch on a new domain for the sake of like $15. Charles got started with this tutorial –

    Hi Matthew,

Amazing progress! I see you’ve jumped in a lot of the numbers posted above, not to mention the income :)

I know firsthand from our communication you are one hard working guy so I’m not surprised at your progress.

Keep up the good work and congrats!

    • July 1st, 2014 at 11:34 pm

Thanks Rizvan =D I’m sure you’ll be up there one day as well!

  3. 7.1.2014

Congrats on breaking the $200K barrier altogether. Looks like a great month at $16K!

    • July 1st, 2014 at 11:33 pm

Thanks Michelle – I’ll see you on the income report round up battle grounds :P

  4. 7.1.2014

Thanks for the details as usual!
I’m really anxious to read your MTTB so I’m waiting for it so impatiently. As far as that is concern, I have only read from John Chow. It will be great to hear what results you get from it

    • July 1st, 2014 at 11:33 pm

Yeah its quite a good program in terms of how its laid out, the coach setup, the daily training etc – but the proof is in the pudding and I’m still mixing the ingredients :)

  5. Hey Matthew !!
Rocking it hard i guess, its beautiful cos am really getting a lot to build myself up !!

  6. Charlie

That MTTB program looks like the spammiest thing ever. The fact John Chow is associated with it only enforces that feeling.

    • July 2nd, 2014 at 1:12 am

Whats wrong with John? I have read his blog for as long as I can remember, way back when he published his first few income reports!

      • Charlie
        July 2nd, 2014 at 12:45 pm

There are books that could be written on what is wrong with John. He is the epitomy of the MMO guru. And MMO is an industry so rife with hyperbole, scare tactics, and fraudulent claims that these days just spending too much time on the Warrior Forum makes me feel slightly sick to the stomach.

John makes money by promising to teach others how to make money online. And do you know what he ‘teaches’ them to do? To make money by promising to teach others how to make money online! The whole damned operation is a circular exercise in pointlessness, desperation and greed.

I won’t deny his financial success, but I will deny the ethics of his business, which essentially comes down to preying on the gullible, the desperate, and the easily fleeced. MTTB is simply the latest incarnation in a long line of over-hyped, over-priced, non-products that ultimately serve only to further John’s bottom line. It’s sad, really.

        • July 2nd, 2014 at 9:20 pm

While I admit that his blog it not what is used to be in the golden days when he was publishing actual case study based stuff he was a great influence and inspiration for me over the years. I do wish he went back to his old style of posting though!

I’ve met a number of people that have had great success doing the things he teaches as well!

  7. 7.2.2014

    Hi Matt,

Still waiting for the Zero to Hero course which I am sure you’re working hard on.

Have also been following MTTB and MOBE since you got into it and seriously thinking of joining but will wait for your report on it before making up my mind.

  15. 7.2.2014

    Well done Matt!
I’m looking forward to your course and the review of MTTB; that should be very interesting.

  16. 7.2.2014

That’s very nice of LeadPages. However, it’s kind of sad that honest behavior in business situations is something special.

Congrats to your earnings! I’m wondering what the mysterious “other income” is 4 people have gone through. I hope it has nothing to do with selling your body :-D

    • July 2nd, 2014 at 9:24 pm

Yeah you can’t knock LeadPages for that, on top of how impressed I have been with the product they have me for life :)

Haha not selling my body, if it was I would have worded it as ‘i’ve gone through 4 people’ :P

  17. 7.2.2014

Great update. Fantastic income considering you where off for half the month partying :)

People like yourself motivate me to do other things and try and get your income to a place where I feel it should be and where you can enjoy a good life without worrying when next £ coming in.

    Keep up the great work..

p.s matthew, where do I change my email and website link, which links to my replies? I want to change my photo, cant mind how to do?

    • July 2nd, 2014 at 9:23 pm

Actually one of the benefits of self employment is your always worrying about when the next £ will come in. That never changes :)

  18. Andy

Another amazing report, I follow it, thank Matt,

  19. 7.2.2014

    Hi Mathew,
This is more than just an income report! It profiles many other interesting details and advice. I was thrilled by learning you have finally set up your own agency.

However, my question remains why did you include grey hat and black hat SEO as part of the services you are offering in your agency?

I would love to know why seeing that these practices are frowned at by Google!

The Affiliate Summit discussions and the MTTB recommendations are other interesting highlights of this post!

I have shared this comment in where this post was found and “kingged” for its value to Internet marketers.

Because differnet businesses have different needs/goals/desires. Sometimes a purely spam lead blackhat strategy aligns with those, sometimes not. There is no one size fits all solution in this game!

      Thanks for the share :)

  20. 7.2.2014

Thanks so much for the transparency!

Question, do you not have an assistant/VA helping you manage all this? Or is it manageable for you?

I’m wondering how much behind the scenes work in terms of hours it takes you to run the blog….is it a full time job =)

    • July 2nd, 2014 at 8:39 pm

Not that work on the blog, everything on the blog is me but I have va’s working on others sites/businesses to help keep everything ticking over :)

  21. 7.2.2014

Your income report is more than just ways to earn. It is a case study on how to get most out of the blog. Your traffic from Google is growing and that is a good sign.

Your three major referrals are unique, I need to go for facebook ppc, it is doing some great wonders for you and I hope for the same too.

Your earning is so diverse, I wonder how you manage all this. Great.

Anyway, I found this on kingged.

    • July 2nd, 2014 at 8:36 pm

Glad you liked it – I manage it all with a whole bunch of time. These reports typically take between 8-12 hours to produce =/

  22. 7.2.2014

It’s rare to see a neatly done post on earning. This post could easily have been in three parts but you made me read all of it this way.

  23. 7.2.2014

    Hey Rox,

Sorry I haven’t replied to your email yet, its still marked to reply :P

Actually I moved her because I hated the capitalist/consumerist society of the UK and most of Europe, you can read more about it here

They really know what is important here, and it has nothing to do with money! There is a reason they are officially the happiest country on the planet and I wanted to be part of that :)

You should experience it – there are a few IM guys living here as well ^^

    • July 6th, 2014 at 11:16 pm

That sounds like the perfect plan to me and not too far from what I wanted to do which was to be able to live and work anywhere in the world with nothing more than a backpack.

So keep pushing forward and we’ll all see you out here at the start of next year!

  24. 7.2.2014

    Wow! Great stuff thank you!

  25. 7.2.2014

    Fantastic work, Matthew.

Looks like you need to take a couple more breaks to keep those earnings climbing. How about a 6-month cruise? haha

Haha I would rather backpack it than hit a luxury cruise liner!

Its an intriguing system and until I’ve gone through it I can’t pass final judgement but it’s an interesting business model and like most business models you do need to invest money to test thing.

Thinking of it as an affiliate system is the wrong way to look at it, your not paying to be an affiliate. Your paying to be part of a franchise much like every McDonalds owner.

I will see how it goes, but I can see the potential at the moment!
