Monthly Income, Growth & Traffic Report – February 2016

PLEASE SHARE

This is the 41st income report as part of the zero backlink experiment.

Every month I will publish a post like this one that shows you how this blog is progressing and everything I have done across the month to get it there.

These reports will help me track my own progress while teaching you what to do and more importantly what not to do.

What I Have Done In February

February has been all about fighting fires and… starting them.

Life is catching up with me in a lot of areas such as the car constantly breaking down (1989 Suzuki Sidekick with over 300,000 km) and it turns out if you don’t go to the dentist for 10 years you need 4 extractions, 3 root canals, 3 crowns and 16 fillings.

I also had family visiting for a week so tried to switch off as much as possible for 10 days.

But that didn’t stop me from nearly burning the house down after a gust of wind blew some trash I was burning into dry leaves resulting in 15 foot flames around the house.

Despite that I was lucky enough to be approached by a major book publisher to write a book for them, but the numbers don’t make sense at the moment so I’m taking some time to think about that before making a decision.

So all in all, things could have gone a lot better this month but equally it could have been much worse!

Content Creation

I published a total of 6 posts this month which is 2 more than last months 4.

We kicked the month off with an SEO ranking case study for unhealthy food (my favorite nom!).

Then we took at look at how to increase blog traffic with a very simple but effective strategy that costs nothing but your time to implement.

Taking that a step further we learned how to generate leads with social media quizzes.

You also learned how to use expired web 2 sites to increase your search engine rankings and traffic.

Other than those we just had the regular income report roundup post and a special ask me anything thread.

Crunching The Numbers

So let’s get our hands dirty and take a look at what my lack of attention to the blog has done to the important metrics.

Visitor Statistics

Traffic increased from 49,696 (1,603/day) last month to 48,316 (1,666/day) this month which is a nice increase on last month even with the shorter month.

Most Popular Content

The How To Build Expired Web 2.0 Networks That Increase Rankings tutorail & case study stole the show this month.

That was closely followed by the Struggling Blogger’s Guide to Increase Blog Traffic.

We also saw the How To Start A Profitable Membership Site tutorial jump back into the top 10!

analytics-content-feb

Top Traffic Sources

I have seen a few changes in traffic sources this month after getting a mention at NicheHacks and IMRecommend which sent a total of 958 extra vists respectively

Other than that not much else has changed with most traffic sources remaining steady in comparison to last month.

analytics-traffic-feb

Search Engine Traffic

Google was kind enough to send me a little extra search traffic this month with a total of 37,193 (1,282/day) compared to 37,824 (1,220/day) in the previous month.

YouTube Views

I lost all of my historical YouTube views because of changes I made to the branding – so I keep track of them separately.

YouTube views took a small hit this month dropping from 23,053 last month to 22,456 this month.

That also had a negative impact on the total minutes watched for the month dropping from 108,334 to 105,486!

Social Shares

This month the total social shares across Facebook and Google+ increased from 48,486 to 49,161.

  • Google+ – 18,009 (17,828 last month)
  • Facebook – 31,152 (30,658 last month)

Subscribers

The most important metric on the entire blog – earning a subscription from someone is the ultimate form of commitment and conversion.

This month brought 2,118 new subscribers which is pretty big jump on last months 1,421 new subscribers.

There are now a total of 131,419 subscribers across all of the various channels!

  • E-mail – 1,257 (919 last month) / Total: 71,659
  • Twitter – 286 (234 last month) / Total: 11,228
  • YouTube – 242 (249 last month) / Total: 10,482
  • Facebook – 167 (90 last month) / Total: 19,703
  • Google+ – 11 (14 last month) / Total: 17,865
  • RSS – 177 (-57 last month) / Total: 482

Income Report

Here are the numbers you really want to see-

Affiliate Earnings

ATTENTION: Learn My Secrets With Instant Access To The Income Report Archive

Expenses

Consultation Earnings

I separate out the consultation earnings from the affiliate earnings. The blog drives affiliate sales directly and whilst it does generate consultation leads these are separate projects in their own right.

I didn’t take on any consultation work this month which resulted in a juicy zero dollars!

Other Income

I’m working on another project right now that is part of the blog but not something I’m ready to talk about publicly yet or maybe ever.

I will declare the income here though as it wouldn’t be possible without the blog and ‘technically’ it is affiliate income.

This month that income has increased slightly from $10,534.96 last month to $11,286.49 this month.

Earnings Total

  • Affiliate Income – $12,479.75
  • Consultation Income – $00.00
  • Other Income – $11,286.49
  • Expenses – $217.89

Grand Total: $23,548.35 / £16,876.30 ($24,298.27 / £16,919.03 last month)

Signing Off

As I’ve been distracted with a lot of things in my personal life this month, I really didn’t spend anyway near as much time on the blog as I should have done.

With that said, income took a relatively small hit with traffic showing a small increase.

I’m still not on top of all of my personal issues, especially with the car and dentist work but I am back in the driving seat this month as long as nothing else goes wrong!

So as I glance at my ever growing to do list and mountain of work to catch up on, I’m going to sign off this months income report and get myself a wiggle on!

Thank you to everyone that has helped me reach my goals – I couldn’t do it without you, the reader!

You own all of those? Do you host them on separate IP addresses?

    • March 1st, 2016 at 2:48 pm

      I own all of what?

      • March 2nd, 2016 at 7:20 am

I think he is confused about those affiliate sites. He thinks you own them.

    • March 1st, 2016 at 3:53 pm

The Affiliate Earnings list within the income report shows the money Matthew made for channelling internet uses he reached via blog and otherwise to other products by other people. The income is gained when someone Matthew sent to another ‘vendor’ buys something or subscribes. Matthew normally gets a percentage or fixed fee for being affiliated (an affiliate).

    • March 1st, 2016 at 5:20 pm

I believe the visitor means the affiliate referring incomes.

By the way, I just sign up Ahrefs and will try it out to see if that work for my online business.

Thank you Matt for your sharing.

  2. 3.1.2016

    Hey Matthew :)

Thanks for sharing your income reports with us because you encourage us and give us ideas to do the best we can :)

  3. 3.1.2016

Hi Matthew. This is fantastic how to nuild up this site. Im thinking to create a hungarian site on this model. I do not find any article here what was not helpful for me. I have so many questions about Seo, but I dont ask you directly because I dont want your pricely tim but you give many answers in this blog when Im browsing from the topics. Sorry for my bad grammatics, Im hungarian.

    • March 2nd, 2016 at 10:03 am

No problem Attila, my only advice would be to make sure the hungarian market is large enough to make it worth while

  6. 3.1.2016

    Hello Matthew…
    Awesome as usual!!!
Thanks for your strategy! The claiming of expired 2.0 website is my favorite one this month. 😀

    Waiting your next article!!
*sorry, if my English is bad.

  7. 3.1.2016

Wow, that’s a really detailed breakdown. I see you promote a lot of different affiliate programs and that subscriber rate is really good. Would you say that you make most of your money from your list or not really? I hope one day I can earn as much from my website!

    • March 2nd, 2016 at 10:02 am

There is no ‘1 big thing’ that drives it, it’s the combination of doing lots of things very well

  8. 3.1.2016

He seems to be thinking the affiliate sites are your websites
And the stats performed pretty good even when you where busy with your personal work. That’s an achievement.

  9. 3.2.2016

Great read! As always it’s inspiring and motivating.

I have started my blog, after looking at your success. Hope it all goes well for me too. :)

    Apologize for noob question.
Besides Affiliate, What Blog can do to earn “other income”?

Please advise! or point me to the Article that you have shared this knowledge

    Thanks

  11. Hello Matthew,
That’s yet another huge numbers, even though your January income was more than this one yet, its indeed mouth watering.

You’re really doing a great job here and therefore, deserve all of that even more and I’m sure you will be making much more as time goes on.

Sorry to hear about the little fire accident in your home, thank G** it was controlled.

Question: Are you currently using Active Campaign?

Thanks for sharing Mr Matt and this is to your success.

    Happy new month.

BTW: I’m currently writing a blog post which i know your audience will find interesting, will give you a heads up once I’m done if you don’t mind?

    • March 2nd, 2016 at 9:57 am

      Thanks Theodore :)

I use Aweber on this blog but will be migrating over to InfusionSoft in the near future!

Sure send the post over when its ready :)

      • March 4th, 2016 at 4:27 am

        Sure Matt,

Most of the big guys in the industry are using InfusionSoft so, that’s what you should be using too because you’re also a Big Deal :)

The post is already done, trying to do the final editing. Will send it to you via email shortly.

        Thanks

  12. 3.3.2016

Oh my goodness you’ve been through a lot!!! I hope you’re doing okay with all of that dental work. That must have been incredibly uncomfortable. Dental work beyond the basics is crazy expensive too based on the work my parents have had.

I hope your house is okay after the fire incident. My gosh that must have been terrifying!

    • March 5th, 2016 at 1:13 pm

Actually its not all that bad really and much worse things could have happened so it is what it is. Plus I would rather fix everything in one crack of the whip, I’m a both feet in or nothing type of person so this is better than going to the dentist every 6 months for life haha

  13. Stefan
    3.4.2016

Hey Matthew, glad to hear everything worked out in your personal life. I’m postponing my visit to the dentist and it’s long overdue 😀

    • March 5th, 2016 at 1:10 pm

Well its not all worked out yet, but within the next 10 days it should be :)

I postponed my visit for 10 years longer than I should have, now I am paying the price – trust me its not a good price 😛

  14. 3.4.2016

hi Matt nice report as usual :) have you noticed that your blog was down for a day or so last month? cuz I tried to visit many times during that day but no chanse always down hopefully that did not affect your earning negatively.

    • March 5th, 2016 at 1:09 pm

Yes I had a problem with the caching system/running out of disk space doh!

  15. 3.8.2016

Always an inspiration! I wish I had the time and dedication to put out monthly income reports,, especially as I’m seeing my income growing faster and faster. Once I can go full time (hopefully in 12 more months) maybe I’ll get the chance to post mine.

Keep up the hard work and the awesome articles!

  16. 3.13.2016

    Hi Mat

What does the ‘other income’ relate too??

    • March 14th, 2016 at 3:15 pm

Income that is not affiliate income but couldn’t exist without the blog

  17. 3.13.2016

Great earnings and fantastic Matthew. But just a heads up on Google analytics..

Your sessions are not your actual visits. The correct metric for exact visits is “unique pageviews”.

You can find this by logging into google analytics then going to “behavior” in the left column. click on it, then either go to “overview” to see a general overview of your websites pageviews and unique pageviews, or go to “behavior” > “site content” > “all pages” to see the unique pageviews for each individual page on your website.

Hope this also helps anyone who reads this comment for more accurate tracking of traffic.

  18. 3.16.2016

Congrats Matt with the latest traffic growth of your website. Keep helping and inspiring other bloggers.

  19. 3.21.2016

You are truly a person to follow because those numbers are actually quite impressive in my point of view – What I wonder is, don’t you have a lot of affiliate blogs hiding in the shadows that might not be mentioned?

    • March 21st, 2016 at 4:58 pm

Yes, I’ve built a substantial amount of sites up over the years!

  20. 3.28.2016

    Hello Matt,

Very nice income are you making online I am reading your blog for one year and always the articles that you write are very clear and full off details.
Is very nice to see that you have succeeded to keep your income constant even increased it.

Are you building any amazon affiliates sites?

    Thanks,
    Dragos

    • March 29th, 2016 at 12:14 pm

      Thanks Dragos!

Yes I have quite a few Amazons sites that tick over and do their thing :)

  21. Rick
    3.29.2016

    Man awesome job!

I have a website which I created in 2015. He is basically with the same number of unique visitors and pageviews (45k visitors / 120k page views / close to 1% bounce rate).

But I’m making nothing close from your affiliate income. You have so many programs to promote, it’s crazy …

I’m in the health / weight loss industry, so I don’t have as many offers to promote. I will start thinking more about it though. I’m making only around $500/month ($300 from Adsense and $200 from affiliate sales).

Thank you for all the tutorials. Keep hustling! =)

    • March 29th, 2016 at 12:11 pm

      Hi Rick,

Your Google Analytics setup is wrong, which will be reporting false numbers – review that ASAP because you cannot make any informed decisions right now to move forward.

If you view your source code and do a search for “UA-” without the quote marks, I bet it shows up more than once.

      • Rick
        March 29th, 2016 at 1:02 pm

        Tthanks for the answer.

I found the “UA- …” in the source code twice. Which is pretty odd. They are both inside script tags.

One is from the plugin “Google Analytics” by Kevin Sylvestre. The other I have to figure out.

        Both are inside the tag.

Anyway… Thank you again. I will fix that soon.

        • March 31st, 2016 at 12:00 pm

No problem Rick, once you fix that you will know your true traffic levels and bounce rates

  22. 3.29.2016

I just got on these income reports and well, I must say you are doing awesome considering the algo changes and other things. One Q though – Are you making this money from only one domain or multiple domains?

    6.29.2016

Well this article that i’ve been waited for so long. I need this article to complete my assignment in the college, and it has same topic with your article. Thanks, great share.

  24. 7.11.2016

I am totally impressed with these figures Matthew. I’ve benefited from reading a few of your articles before, but this article is off the hook – not only showing how much you earn but also good enough to break it down with the how and the where – hope you dont mind if I follow your example and start promoting a few of these affiliate products. Clearly your income come from the consistent application of focus and hard work. You deserve every penny of these great earnings and more – thanks again for the insights – totally inspiring.
