Monthly Income, Growth & Traffic Report – April 2015

PLEASE SHARE

This is the 31st income report as part of the zero backlink experiment.

Every month I will publish a post like this one that shows you how this blog is progressing and everything I have done across the month to get it there.

These reports will help me track my own progress while teaching you what to do and more importantly what not to do.

What I Have Done In April

April was a bit of a hectic month for me as I’m working to a crazy travel schedule which has made getting online pretty difficult.

That does also mean that there isn’t really all that much to report as I have dropped into ‘maintainance mode’ just doing what needs to be done to keep things ticking over.

Content Creation

This month I published a total of 8 posts which which is the same amount as last month.

In the coming months I am going to reduece the posting frequency from 2 per week to 1 per week to see how that affects things.

I get the feeling many of you suffer from information overload with 2 per week so I’m going to start dialing that down in June.

We opened the month up with how to get backlinks which was closely followed by the white hat guide to guest blogging.

You also learnt how to use an RSS aggregator for links & social shares and also how to make money on elance.

I also showed you how to get Twitter followers and then wrapped it up with 6 Google Analytics SEO hacks.

Other than those posts we just had the regular income report roundup post but I was unable to post the best of internet marketing due to lack of internet connection.

All New Exclusive Internet Marketing Deals

The exclusive internet marketing deals section is now fully live!

All of these deals are 100% exclusive to my readers that I have personally negotiated with each and every featured product/service.

Private Blog Network Power

Last month I soft launched the new private blog network building service.

This is something I have been working on behind the scenes for the past 6 months with my managed clients and I am now happy to open the doors to everyone.

Take a look at some of the results the PBN’s we have built have delivered so far-

One client cleaned up their link profile and deployed a PBN which saw them gain over 4,000 1st page rankings in Google USA delivering over 500,000 visitors per month from Google alone.

client-example

All of that was achieved in the super competitive diet & weight loss niche.

Check out the private blog network building service page for more details.

We also have a fully managed SEO service if you need something more hands on.

Crunching The Numbers

So let’s get our hands dirty and take a look at what my hard work has done for me this month.

Visitor Statistics

Last month traffic jumped to it’s highest levels yet at 65,019 (2,097/day) but unfortunately this has dropped off to 55,347 (1,844/day) this time around.

analytics-overview

Most Popular Content

This month the how to get backlinks to your site tutorial was the most popular!

It’s great to see my favourite SEO strategy also creeping it’s way back into the top 10 again.

The how to earn money on Fiverr tutorial & elance also proved popular.

analytics-content

Top Traffic Sources

Although traffic took a hit this month, it seems like Facebook is really doing a lot of the heavy lifting behind Google.

This is largely down to a new social strategy I’m trying out but still tweaking – of course I will have a case study for you in the coming months once I have it fine tuned!

analytics-trafficsrc

Search Engine Traffic

Organic traffic from Google last month sat at 42,607 (1,374/day) visits which has dropped slightly to 38,576 (1,285/day) this time around.

I suspect that is due to the change in theme last month that Google is catching up with.

analytics-kws

YouTube Views

I lost all of my historical YouTube views because of changes I made to the branding – so I keep track of them separately.

YouTube views have remained steady this month at 19,816 compared to last month 19,567 after steady declining the past few months.

Total minutes watched also remained steady at 98,069 compared to 99,157 last month.

youtube-stats

Social Shares

I have temporarily removed this section while I find a better solution to collect the data

Subscribers

The most important metric on the entire blog – earning a subscription from someone is the ultimate form of commitment and conversion.

This month brought 2,281 new subscribers which is a big drop from last months 4,801.

I have had some problems with OptinMonster displaying on posts correctly and last month’s boost was due to the giveaway I ran.

Unfortunately as I’m working on the road at the moment I haven’t had the time to properly fix that yet but is a top priority this month.

There are now a total of 109,219 subscribers across all of the different channels!

  • E-mail – 1,475 (2,891 last month) / Total: 58,070
  • Twitter – 387 (787 last month) / Total: 8,438
  • YouTube – 211 (253 last month) / Total: 7,707
  • Facebook – 263 (761 last month) / Total: 16,906
  • Google+ – 22 (109 last month) / Total: 17,743
  • RSS – -77 (-47 last month) / Total: 355

Income Report

Here are the numbers you really want to see-

Affiliate Earnings

ATTENTION: Learn My Secrets With Instant Access To The Income Report Archive

Expenses

Consultation Earnings

I separate out the consultation earnings from the affiliate earnings. The blog drives affiliate sales directly and whilst it does generate consultation leads these are separate projects in their own right.

I didn’t take on any consultation work this month which results in zero consultation earnings.

Other Income

I’m working on another project right now that is part of the blog but not something I’m ready to talk about publicly yet or maybe ever.

I will declare the income here though as it wouldn’t be possible without the blog and ‘technically’ it is affiliate income.

This earned a total of $15,605.24 which is a huge step up from last month’s $4,784.50.

Earnings Total

  • Affiliate Income – $10,728.16
  • Consultation Income – $00.00
  • Other Income – $15,605.24
  • Expenses – $49.99

Grand Total: $26,283.41 / £17,197.97 ($12,215.22 / £8,219.46 last month)

Signing Off

The past couple of months have seen income from the blog dropping steadily as time was invested elsewhere. As you can see – that time investment is starting to pay off.

Even though I have spent the entire month of April travelling through Costa Rica, Amsterdam, UK & Rhodes – that is the real beauty of the dot com lifestyle.

In 2 days I leave Rhodes for Lanzarote before shooting over to Bucharest to speak at the GPeC summit before returning to the UK just in time to speak at the UnGagged/BHW conference.

Whilst travelling I have been preparing some additional content to go with those 45 videos I mentioned last month which I’m keen to get finished to help break the $50,000 barrier.

But now it’s time to eat lunch and kiss good bye to this terrible 3 euro per hour dial up like internet I’ve been using to write this report while creating a range of new swear words at the same time.

Thank you to everyone that has helped me reach my goals – I couldn’t do it without you, the reader!

      Thanks :)

Send me an email and perhaps I can help although I am very picky about what I get involved in, if I don’t have a passion for it I won’t take the work on.

  5. 5.1.2015

Thank you so Matt! These posts are so inspiring and is actually helping me to stick to my website business. My site is just over a month old so I’m still a newbie. Initially I just wanted to build an AdSense website but I can see that affiliate marketing is where it’s at!

    • May 1st, 2015 at 1:02 pm

Don’t limit your thinknig with an ‘adsense site’ – find out what your audience wants, and give it to them. Forget about the money if you want to make money.

Quick question, what do you like more for content gen Kontent Machine 3 or SEO Content Machine. One more question. Do you write your own articles/blogpost? or have writers? And for this blog as well? Thanks

    • May 1st, 2015 at 1:01 pm

Personally KM3 but that is because I am a if its not broke dont fix it kind of guy. I haven’t tried SEO Content Machine or put it to the test so I could be missing out =D

        awesome just bought km3 thanks

  8. 5.1.2015

Thanks Matt, super inspiring report. All your articles have been phenomenal! and challenging for me to read because they remind me of how much I slack off, but it gives me a blueprint to do a lot better as well. I need to step up and start implementing this stuff today. A monthly income report would help me hold myself accountable for progress.

    • May 1st, 2015 at 1:00 pm

Well one of the things I always say when I present about the blog is the amount of work that has gone into it, not just the blog but the business as a whole. For 4 solid years I did 80-100 hour weeks without fail. I was lucky if I took 1 day off per month. Now I’m struggling to find the right work/life balance as I’ve formed a bit of an addiction :)

  9. 5.1.2015

    Hy Matthew,

I’m a new visitor :) Great stuff here, man. Question: All the tools you are earning commissions from are tools you are currently using?

By the way, you should check out ClickMagick. The best tracking tool I’ve used bar far. It also has many other features as well, but it is worth checking it out :)

    Cheers,

    Ricky

    • May 1st, 2015 at 12:56 pm

      Hey,

Not all of them – it depends on what projects im pushing, which im easing off etc etc the web is ever changing so I am always starting/cancelling subscriptions as and when I need them.

I have looked at a better tracking solution and ClickMagick was one of them – but I would like to be able to track from the traffic source through to the sale withotu having to create a new link all the time.

      • May 4th, 2015 at 7:10 am

It makes complete sense, Matthew. If you find the one you’re looking for… care to share it? :)

        • May 5th, 2015 at 4:34 am

Well it sosmething I have tried to find for years, so don’t expect it soon haha

          • June 1st, 2015 at 10:00 pm

Hi Matthew, our tracking solution could be a good fit: http://3minuteoptimizer.com. You still need to create a tracking link, but it’s basically tag appended to your URL, something like matthewwoodward.co.uk/?source=facebook. (similar to Google Analytics, but much easier to use).

(disclaimer: I’m the founder of the business.)

          • June 4th, 2015 at 2:38 pm

But that wouldnt work if some unrelated website linked to me and then people clicked through to an affiliate link?

  13. 5.1.2015

    Welcome back to Europe, Matthew!
    Impressive travel schedule.
Regarding the PBN you built over the last month I have a question: how do you secure it from Google and make sure that the links pointing from it to your clients sites don’t harm them?
    Thanks for explaining.

    • May 3rd, 2015 at 2:50 am

A lot of that comes down to how you build the PBN and also make sure that it is actually truly private to that individual client and not shared across your client base.

But there is no such thing as a 100% safe SEO strategy, SEO is just risk management balanced against a businesses goals. The beauty of a PBN if you do get penalised though is you have the ability to clean the link profile up instantly.

Would love if you were able to give some more information on your secret project and how the blog helps it.
I’m interested in case it could apply to my own blog or other areas of business apart from SEO.

    Dale.

    Hi Matt

I think the below is a little non transparent, considering you break everything down and tell your readers everything you do to help them out I don’t know why you would not mention this? Is it something a little shady or something that may cause competition for you?

“I’m working on another project right now that is part of the blog but not something I’m ready to talk about publicly yet or maybe ever.
I will declare the income here though as it wouldn’t be possible without the blog and ‘technically’ it is affiliate income.

    • May 3rd, 2015 at 2:40 am

and it’s going to stay that way as revealing it will open the flood gates to the competition and there is no need for me to do that

Congrats Matt to the great numbers!

A question – how do you stay motivated? What keeps you motivated?

    • May 5th, 2015 at 4:36 am

The internet/writing/making websites was a passion for me from a young age. I had built a number of sites and wrote on a volunteer basis for years before I realised you could actually make money online.

I was also taught from a young age to find what you love in life, then find a way to make money at it. Do that.

  20. 5.11.2015

It’s a very good income and traffic growth. You do a good job with affiliate marketing and get a lot of money back.

  21. 5.12.2015

Definitely admire how you do things. That income will just shoot up more and more soon :) Time well spent indeed.

    Keep it up Matt!
